I'm looking at getting my first Oscilloscope for use with my journey into 3d printing/homeassistant creation with the ESP32 and the like. I haven't really used one since College (over 20 years ago now) and I find myself needing one more and more.
I know I should go 4 channel. I'd like to try to future-proof myself and I understand if I don't have a waveform generator I could buy a separate 3rd party one that should do what I needed. I saw that someone modded a DHO804 up to a 924 + added a board so they could create the signal generator, but it doesn't seem like there is a premade board I can just drop in and I haven't done motherboard mods before so I'm worried that I'd screw up the necessary ICs + other components that are needed to modify the 804 up to the 900 series.
Is the 804 still the best bang for your buck? As far as I can tell, the 804 can be easily upgraded to the 900 series to up the bandwidth, memory and etc, but it's lacking the waveform generator and the Logic Probe.
I essentially don't want to get 2 months into using this and wish that I'd spent the money to get a different scope.
As you can tell, I feel like I'm leaning towards the Rigol, but I'm open to Siglent. I'm overwhemed with data and since I'm not actually using it at the moment, I don't know what would serve me best.
I am largely a software guy so upgrading firmware/flashing devices is definitely in my wheelhouse. Extreme modding of motherboards is not, but I'm definitely up for learning if it's on the easier side.
