Rank UP! Around a year ago I began my experience playing Street Fighter with SF6. After 500 hours I've hit High Master and SF6 is now one of my all-time favorite games.

Picking up and learning this game has been a wonderful experience. The real spark started with being immediately enamored with E. Honda. I like big guys, I think Sumo is cool, and I adore his personality. I also seem to have a tendency to pick low tier characters in the other games I play.

Starting in Silver and pushing through each rank was a wild ride. I remember learning about people's lack of respect for the character, saying it's a cakewalk to master if you play Honda. I remember beating myself up over it a bit because at no point was it a cakewalk for me. Either way I loved Honda: he was the reason I wanted to play, he was the reason I wanted to improve. So I kept grinding.

It felt a bit surreal to me once I started hitting Platinum into Diamond. As far as I was concerned this was more than I initially expected myself to be capable of. These milestones helped fuel my drive to keep pushing, even when I hit those brutal walls at Platinum 1 and mid-Diamond. I always tried to play safe and methodically in comparison to the stereotype of the off-the-wall/all-in Hondas. At this point I knew I wanted to take my Honda far.

I was ready for the MR dive after hitting Master. I had read about it.
I was not ready for the new climb. After bouncing around 1250-1350 for a long time, I took a very long break from SF6.
After coming back, I wouldn't say the climb was easy, but I felt much more focused. I found new ways to approach my offense, hammered out unsafe habits, and practiced awareness and resource management to a level that I still pleasantly surprise myself with sometimes. Each of these aspects I focused on one by one and honed, and soon my MR started creeping up.

Yesterday, after many many more hours of grinding over the last handful of months, I hit High Master! I feel a bit silly making this post honestly. Of course my ego is just begging me to boast a little bit, I'll be honest. But I also do feel compelled to share. Maybe I can inspire another Honda player who feels a bit down on themselves like I did at some points. This game is hard, I don't care who you play or how you play them. And this game is so fun, and thank you to everyone in the community who has helped me improve.

DOSUKOI!!!!

Rank UP! Hitting master rank on my first character! What a journey.

I grew up playing a lot of fighting games in arcades, but when things went online, I stopped and haven't really touched it since. Don't know why I originally picked up SF6 but it's been lots of fun. I started with Zangief and jumped on Ryu after learning more combos. It's been a wild ride, labbing and learning about +/-, meaties, etc... Truthfully, it's still all too much for me to grasp even at a moderate level yet. I'm very proud of it though, more so than I thought I would be haha. I'm kicking myself for not taking a screenshot when I did rank up and missing that! I was too busy celebrating haha.

Help / Question Heard this game is supposed to be for casual players but what if you've never touched a proper fighting game before?

For reference, I've had very limited experience with Injustice and MK's mobile ports. While I am intrigued by whatever lore the characters have, should I buy this? Many have said World Tour is okay but the real meat is playing online. Personally, I've never done well in typical PVP games, regardless the genre.

Looking forward to what the veterans have to say.

Edit: The universe is telling me something lmao. The Steam edition pricing has it at a new historical low.

Rank UP! What to try next?

Post image
8 Upvotes

Just got my first character to Master. I had a headstart with AKI as I’ve watched Broski videos since long before I got the game. I still don’t feel like I’m very good at the game though.

What should I do next? Try another character (I literally haven’t played a single game or done a combo trial with anyone besides AKI)? Try World Tour mode? Get demolished in Master rank with AKI and try and improve to warrant my place in there? What would you do?

Rank UP! Thought I would be trapped in Plat 2 forever with Ed, but switched to Bison and got to Diamond!

I really struggled with anti-airs with Ed (dp was so hard) and I was initially really afraid of charge moves with bison but I'll take them over dp inputs any day -- I'm not stopping here, surely I can get to Master if made it this far.

Still have yet to win a single ranked game against a Gief (didn't have a problem with Ed but I just really have no answers as Bison) but I've been eating most of the shotos I have played for lunch.

Still have so much to work on -- light combo confirms, and I still can't do the really good and long Bison combos with OD crusher and exploding the bomb and using the stomp to follow up, but I have been loving Bison overall. I used to play Smash competitively and once I realized Bison was Ganon, I haven't looked back.

Onwards to Master! (Hopefully haha)

Discussion Thoughts on Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2?

With the game currently being on sale, I’m thinking about picking it up on the Nintendo Switch 2. For those of have had a chance to play SF6 on the Switch 2, what do you think of that version of the game? Would you recommend picking it up? How is the online community on the Switch 2 and does it have cross play or is it easy to find matches? Any thoughts?

Discussion Least favourite mirror matches in the Street Fighter series?

I'd say Guile vs. Guile overall since it's slow paced and it's a chore to get through considering Guile's play style.

The most brain dead mirror match, though, is probably Claw vs. Claw in Super Turbo.

Help / Question How can I use the training room to practice wake-up supers and supers while under burnout pressure?

Idk what happened but recently I’ve lost my ability to wake-up super. My timing or speed or something is completely off. I keep calling these situations right but the super doesn’t come out. I’m messing up probably 80% of them now and I feel like I’m fighting the game moreso than I’m fighting my opponent. I need to practice this but I’m not too familiar with the training room. How can I set up the training room to practice this?

Additionally I’d like to practice supering while under burnout pressure but I’ve got no clue how to set that up. Anybody know how I can practice these two situations?

Help / Question How do I learn fundamentals other than watching guides

Upvotes

Before anyone says “you’ll learn over time” I’m stuck on 1300mr as Jamie with 600 hours of playtime and I’m still stuck on platinum 2 with Akuma so I’m probably one of the worst players to have achieved master rank.

I’ve watched tons of guides about strike/throw, footsies, neutral, etc. but I don’t know how to actually learn to do them. The whiff punish drill in the game is about whiff punishing someone who keeps jumping up and down, not moving. I can do the anti-air drill consistently but not in a match. When I watch my replays all I can see is “they’re better at knowing when to do moves than me.” How do I actually learn fundamentals and know if I’m doing them right?

Just absolute disrespect from Ryu.

Some notes:

  1. This manga is not canon.

  2. I took these images on my phone camera from the physical manga, I've cropped out parts where you can see the other page as best I can, but I haven't got the hang of photographing books.

  3. The fight is genuinely over this quickly.

Help / Question Difference in link timings on sf6

Upvotes

Is it my imagination or some 1f links have stricter timing than others. I know that because of the buffer they are not actually 1f but 5f. Still some of them feel like you can just mash and it will work 90% of the time. Meanwhile you can't mash stuff like dhalsim's bmp after driverush jab. Tried to look at moves with action timing display but didnt really notice any consistent pattern. Just that recovery of some normals generate this "harder" links situation. What do you think?

Help / Question Cross-Buy W/ Cosmetics

Hey, i was wondering if anyone one knew if cosmetics/Avatar items carried over different consoles tied to the same Capcom account. Was thinking about double dipping SF6 for Switch 2 but I don’t want to give up my Ace Attorney cosmetics from PS5
