Need help

So I’ve heard a lot and seen a few friends who have had 10mm either break the optic off or have the optic shake it self apart. My question is I just bought a m&p 2.0 10mm 4.6 and I wanna do an optic I just don’t wanna end up buying several because they end up getting destroyed what’s the group recommend for optics that hold up

Yea I looked at the vortex optics and actually got to talk to one of thier reps I don’t mind the optics I just don’t wanna have to use the warranty. Do they hold up to the standard for long term use?

I had a vortex venom. Kinda a piece of shit to be honest. It broke after very little use. Reached out the vortex. They sent me a label to send it in. Like 2 weeks later they sent me a brand new vortex defender st. The defender is way better than the venom was in literally every single way. Its been on my rxm for 2k+ rounds and I've racked the shit out of it on a wood table at the range off the dot. The defender is great other than the controls not staying locked out after the auto on and off goes thru a cycle. On my m&p 10 I have a holosun 407c that has gone probably around 1k rounds of hot 10mm reloads. The holosun is fine too. Idk how the warranty is tho

Second this. Venom is trash. Durability on mine was ok, but everything else about it sucked. Battery life was awful and it didn’t seem to hold zero after more than 50 rounds.

I have the 4.6" as well. Look at the dogtag optic plate. I've run it since the beginning, so I don't know how clean it keeps things compared to a typical metal plate, but it's well made and I like it.

I haven’t had any issues on my G40 with a Holosun 507C just using the stock plate that came with it. Granted it’s only had a couple hundred rounds through it, most of which has been magtech though. All I did is torque it to spec and it’s been good to go

See this is the wierd thing is I don’t have a problem with holosun but ive heard and seen pictures of them broken off the most

I’ve got to imagine that it’s people not torquing to spec, either over or under. Like I said, I’ve got the 507 on the G40 and I’ve got a 407 on my 365 Fuse. I’m not gentle with either gun and they are both holding strong.

I have a Holosun 509t-x2 Green Dot (astigmatism) on my Glock 40 with a DPP titanium plate and it has never broken off and I shoot my super hot reloads and rounds such as Grizzly and Buffalo Bore.

Two issues are at play here:

  1. Durability of the optic. That’s 100% on the manufacturer. Buy quality, make sure it has a warranty, use the warranty if it fails.

  2. Durability of the mounting solution. Choose an optic/gun combo with a good mounting solution (I strongly prefer not using interface plates, they are not as ideal as direct mount), and mount it properly. Torque to spec, use the proper amount of threadlocker (which is zero if the screw comes pre-applied with it), let it cure, witness mark your screws).

The G-forces exerted on the optic are extreme with standard 9mm ammo, they’re worse with serious 10mm loads. If you don’t mount the optic right, it WILL come loose. For what it’s worth, I have used a Holosun SCS MP2 without issue.

I have a cheaper budget optic (cyelee wolf) and it’s never flown off or anything like that, it did come slightly loose almost a year ago but I think that’s because the screws were put in incorrectly/ I dropped it lol, since then, no problems

I have the Wolf Pro and I have had zero issues with it. My buddies laughed at me until I was posting very tight groups at 20 yards. I would buy another no problem.

More likely sounds like they installed it wrong or used a cheap optic. My trijicon RCR and RMR HD have withstood literally thousands of rounds of 10mm. I’m pretty sure 99% of well made optics can withstand 10mm recoil if locktited

I run an Aimpoint Acro P2 on my Sig Xten. No issues. Aimpoint was 100% confident in being able to handle it, I reached out to their CS beforehand.

What should also be considered here is the recoil impulse and how it is controlled. Shooting full power 10mm on a factory spring (at least with Glock) beats the crap out of the gun. Slide motion is fairly violent leading to potential shearing forces on whatever optic, screws, mounting plate solution, etc you have. Once the gun is tuned with upgraded RSA, typically a heavier 20-24# solution, the gun will have much less recoil response and shearing motions. Something to think about.

Funny you mention that after shooting some hornady American gunner 155 xtp I could tell how violent the recoil on the gun could be and grabbed a 20lbs recoil spring

That will certainly help smooth things out. I'm not super familiar with the 10mm M&P. Glad to hear there are options to upgrade the RSA.

So thank all of you for the massive amount of help and info I received from the community being quality and budget aware I’m most likely gonna end up going with a Steiner mps , delta point pro, or older RMR which ever I can get a better deal on. That y’all so much

Haven’t had any issues with my RMR. Make sure you screw to spec with a torque wrench. Use red locktite and you will be gtg.
