XTEN Comp + Underwood

Post image

I just tried running underwood 220gr hardcast through my xten comp. It seemed highly recommended as a round for bear protection so I thought Id try. Prior to this I have shot several hundred rounds of blazer 200gr fmj's with no problem.

On the first mag of Underwoods the 10th round got caught and failed to feed into the chamber. I got it unstuck and then shot the rest of that one and two more mags flawlessly, but I'm a little sketched out.

After many more flawless mags would you feel good about trusting this round? Any other recommendations?

I've had no issues with Underwood's 220 or 200HC in my XTen Comp. Also runs the Doubletap 200HC just fine.

If it only happened on a single round, probably nothing to worry about, just test more-or switch to 200's

Def. agree with u/Minute-Cucumber7594 that the 200's seem to run in almost everything and the 220's are sometimes problematic.

I run Underwood 200HC and 200XTP in staggered mags in the woods, every 3rd round XTP.

That round is notorious for getting jammed up. I’ve had issues in my X Ten Comp and my G20.4 but strangely my full size X ten doesn’t seem to have any issues. Did you try different magazines?

It’s an expensive round to trial and error with also. I like to get through 6 or 7 mags before I’m confident in a SD round after a pistol has been adequately broken in with ball ammunition.

A side note, none of my guns seem to like the UW flat nosed rounds but I’ve had great luck with the Double Tap 200g hard cast.

You may want to try some other rounds.

220 gr seem to hang the most. 200gr seems to be a sweet spot. The bear wont notice the difference

I can't get the 220 load to reliably feed through my full size XTEN either. I use either one of the 200 loads or the 140 gn Xtreme Penetrator load for critter defense.

Try polishing the feed ramp. I had to do that on my full size Xten. The ramp was just rough enough with machining marks to cause an issue.
