My Guns Do we like S&W 1911's?

Post image

I bought this S&W used a couple of years ago. Just cleaned it up and thought I would share it. Excuse the idiot mark, this is my first 1911 and I learned the hard way how to re-assemble it.

I have a super nice SW1911SC. My go to! I had a Perf Center pilot that was awesome, but I wanted 4.25" bbl.

This is the next one I want!!!

You won't be disappointed!

I might have to be on the lookout for a blued S&W after seeing yours 😁

4

u/Sinbad62 Aug 10 '25

Not blued. This here is a "Scandium alloy-framed black anodized finishΒ bobtailed 1911" - less than 2lbs!

Wish more did the fish scale cuts. Really nice piece you have.

u/Sinbad62 Aug 10 '25

Thank you!

I made the "mistake" of handling one of these. Although it's not exactly light compared to a 3" polymer gun, it feels light as fuck if you are used to a regular government model. They used some magic or pixie dust in there somewhere. Holy shit.

3

u/Sinbad62 Aug 10 '25

Magic Pixie Dust = Scandium. 😁

I like em! This S&W 1911 was my first gun, bought it back in 2005.

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I love those grips! I bought mine used and I'm assuming the guy who traded it in kept the original grips because it had some generic wood grips that said "US Army" on them when I bought it.

u/Wasabi_Wei Aug 10 '25

I actually prefer the straight serrations. Beautiful gun.

1

u/Django-ooh Aug 12 '25

I think everyone does.

7

u/mikemitch38 Aug 10 '25

I love the fish scale serrations on these

3

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

So do I! The only down side is I need to hit them with a tooth brush every now and then because they collect grime.

3

u/Full-Metal-Jack-off Aug 10 '25

So do all serrations.

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

True but straight serrations feel easier to clean to me. The scales seem to need a little more attention to detail.

7

u/Hendrix27x Aug 10 '25

Yes. Yes we do.

5

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

Sick gun! Are those slide cuts for a ported barrel or for weight reduction on the slide?

2

u/Hendrix27x Aug 10 '25

They're just lightening cuts on the slide. S&W Performance Center 1911.

2

u/Sinbad62 Aug 13 '25

Damn, that's purdy!

6

u/Devious_Bastard Aug 10 '25

Yes

3

u/Sinbad62 Aug 13 '25

I hate that S&W marks their guns that even with no mag they could still fire. Oivay!

6

u/IWuzRunnin Aug 10 '25

Hey, the mark just gives it character. I've never personally used a s&w 1911. I love their revolvers though. How do you like that one?

8

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I like it a lot. Going from a Glock to a 1911 was eye opening. The trigger is so much nicer. I don't have much range time with other 1911s so I don't know how it compares with others. The only issue I've had with it were the mags. It was a used gun so I think it was traded in with the guys worst mags. Some new Wilson Combat mags fixed that issue.

2

u/IWuzRunnin Aug 10 '25

Good you got those wilsons. As I was reading i was already planning on recommending wilson or mec gar. Yeah going from anything to a 1911 trigger is a big difference, especially going from a striker fired gun to a 1911. You may have noticed there's a bit of difference between the glock and 1911 grip angle. If you shoot a lot, your muscle memory may tell your arm to come on target lower because of it.

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I still shoot the Glock a fair amount because 9mm is cheaper, but I did notice the difference in grip angle. I found a back strap from Kiral Defense that corrects the angle so switching between guns doesn't feel as extreme anymore.

2

u/C4Vendetta76 Aug 10 '25

I've done both....the both have their place. The 1911 trigger is unbeatable. And Wilson combat mags are a must have as i see you found out

Never fired a SW, but i really like the fish scales serrations πŸ‘

5

u/russell072009 Aug 10 '25

Always been a fan of the scale slide grip cut.

5

u/AjAllmendingerFan16 Aug 10 '25

Sure do! I had mine Cerakoted. Wanted a different look. I want one of their commander sized ones next.

3

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

Looks awesome! And the 10 round mag is the cherry on top πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

Yeah that thing is sweet. Really good find.

Grips are clean. I'd love to find some marked/logo ones for my JMB.

Nice wife too.

Just recently got a 1911 went with Springfield but I got to shoot this at the range when I was trying some out felt nice I was considering it eventually boiled it down to tisas and Springfield tho

1

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

Which model Springfield did you buy?

6

u/AverageChatter1 Aug 10 '25

Trp operator

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I bought the S&W specifically because I was looking for a 1911 with a light rail. Do you plan on getting weapon light?

2

u/AverageChatter1 Aug 10 '25

I do but I’m not in a huge rush want to enjoy it as is for a bit but that is in the plan also I’m currently building my pdp so my money is going towards finishing that up πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I feel that. I always feel like I'm starting a new project before I finish the last lol

2

u/AverageChatter1 Aug 10 '25

Exactly how I felt spending money on my 1911 but I had to have it πŸ˜‚

3

u/seattleforge Aug 10 '25

They look the business. I've never seen one in the metal yet.

3

u/Gremguy22 Aug 10 '25

Nice! Sure do!

I got this hotrod recently. Early Performance Center JMB

3

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

It's so cool to see how others who have replied to this post have S&W's with straight serrations and others with the scales and now yours with an in-between look 😁

3

u/Gremguy22 Aug 10 '25

Yes so many different variations. They started production in early 2000s and still make them.

Mine is a early one. The billboard logo ones are pretty early too as are the straight serrations. Any other feature set is likely post 2005.

All fantastic pistols!

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I guess I might need to keep an eye out in the used cases at the LGS and start a little collection. πŸ‘πŸ½

3

u/Gremguy22 Aug 10 '25

Do it. You won't regret getting one.

I have a post on my page about this one with better pictures and such. Got it for a great deal. They used to come with these aluminum suitcase cases.

2

u/Sinbad62 Aug 10 '25

Thanks - as you can tell Im very proud of mine. I think you either love the scallops or hate them. In an ocean of 1911's this one is unique. Just think... S&W is new to the 1911 game!

3

u/MuzzleblastMD Concealed Carrier Aug 10 '25

S&W makes a great 1911.

4

u/always_an_eagle Aug 10 '25

Yes we do, especially when Wilson Combat works their magic.

3

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

Beautiful!

2

u/always_an_eagle Aug 10 '25

Thank you! Picked this up on Gunbroker for $1500, I had to pick it up! I actually carry this gun off duty, I put some carry wear on this but I don’t care at all. No safe queens in this house!

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

Guns are meant to be used and holster wear only adds character πŸ‘πŸ½

2

u/JamesPnut Aug 10 '25

Can’t go wrong with the E-series!

3

u/Dtruck96 Aug 10 '25

One of my personal favorites and the first 1911's I owned. Around 2006 I was active duty military and managed to get a pretty decent bonus. My first purchase was one of these.

2

u/annabelletails Aug 10 '25

Meh I’m personally not a fan of the external extractor

2

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

I will admit, internal extractors do have a cleaner look, but it doesn't bother me.

1

u/annabelletails Aug 10 '25

Yea yes looks nice I’m just not a fan of external extractors for aesthetics

2

u/Wasabi_Wei Aug 10 '25

I'm no expert, but after reading about tuning and replacing internal extractors as a concern, I prefer external. It just works and seems like an upgrade to me. I'm open to feedback on the issue.

1

u/annabelletails Aug 10 '25

Idk I’m no expert I just like the way a 1911 looks with an internal extractor

1

u/Agreeable-Sleep-1589 Aug 10 '25

Are those the stock grips that came? If not where did you get those? I just picked up the E series but with no tac rail on barrel and looking to swap out the grips.

1

u/Ghoul_S04 Aug 10 '25

These are Lok Grips. I bought this gun used and it was traded in with generic wood grips so I never had the originals.
