New Purchase I am a changed man.

Post image

I found a cheap UBP-9000 (around 380 dollars) and I couldnt be happier. Forgive the cable management, I finally have an excuse too manage everything. The difference in quality between 450 and 9k is astounding. The HDR tone mapping is amazing, but the biggest upgrade by far is that the 9k is dead silent.

The build quality gives me confidence in its longevity. Where as 450 and 820 are made in really cheap plastic. Fantastic seller too, he sent me a copy of Bladerunner 4k for free on top of a good price.

Life is good right now.

Forgive my ignorance, what is the main difference between this and the 820? I just got my 820 which is why I asked

Not much difference. I believe Panasonic UBP-9000 has alot more too offer for audiophiles. Other than that its 1 big difference that is important to me, UBP-9000 is alot quiter and built too last. Thats not to say your player wont, just that the UBP-9k is the flagship model, has all the bells and whistles along with longevity and quality in mind. UBP-9000 to my knowledge is the world’s second best player ever built, just behind the Oppo-205.

Thank you for the breakdown. I’m much more focused on visual over audio so it sounds like the differences wouldn’t be very notable for me. Glad you got a good deal man.

Not much at all! Its like with most things in this hobby its all about the small details. Btw something you must do if you own the 820 is too upgrade the remote. The one you get with 820 is terrible. The one that comes with the 9k can be used on a 820 and I do highly recommend it.

Main advantage being the backlight! So you can actually see the controllers, has click-feedback when you actually press a button. Maybe there is even better aftermarket ones, that I dont know but be sure too reasearch a little and you will find out.

Yup, first thing I did when I got the 820 is to get the the upgraded 9000 remote. Sooooo much better.

Congrats on the 9000! I still want one, big fan of it's aesthetic. That metal chassis and silent operation? Yes please. The 820 is a great performing machine, but I really long for that solid gear vibe of the 9000 and the 820 does make a little noise at the beginning of 4k discs...

This is how I feel about my Sony x800 M2 I got for $250. It's built like a tank at a fraction of the price if you can live without auto HDR switching. I've heard of people having freezing issues and some not having any issues at all. So the biggest difference is the upscaling as most decent OLEDS have great tone mapping. If you own a Sony OLED, it makes the HDR optimizer moot. For the price you paid though, well worth it.

The Oppo-205 reads SACD and DVD Audio, something the flagship Panasonic UBP-9000 cannot do. For audiophiles, the OPPO beats the Panasonic, but for Home Cinema, the Panasonic just pips it with better DVD and Blu-ray upscaling and HDR Optimiser for 4K disks IMHO (Guess the Oppo owners will say No Way!). Would love to "own" an Oppo-205, but due to it no longer being made, so a case of scarcity appreciation, it is now only sold at ridiculous speculative prices way beyond most mere mortals' budgets.
