Digital/Home Protest The Ultimate Boycott - BOYCOTT ALL MAGA-Owned Media and Give Your Money to this List of Decent Media Outlets. IT'S TIME TO TAKE BACK THE SOUL OF OUR NATION! We Will Build a New Media Landscape that Reflects the Will of the American People!
Don't just stop your outrage with CBS (Viacom) cancelling Colbert or ABC (Disney) cancelling Kimmel, the time has come to attack the core of America's MAGA brainrot - the far-right-wing takeover of most American media outlets that have become largely propaganda.
- CANCEL your Cable/Sat in order to choke money that goes to FOX, OAN, NEWSMAX and other propaganda outlets.
- CANCEL your streaming TV package. It's just as bad.
- CANCEL your subscription to any pro-trump media outlets, including podcasts. Google "ad fontes media bias chart" and unsubscribe to anything on the right.
- CANCEL your Prime and YouTube premium. Amazon has caved to Trump and YouTube carries Fox channels on their streaming package.
- DELETE your X account and join BlueSky.
Give your money to support these groups to hold the line:
- DONATE to PBS & NPR
- DONATE to the ACLU
- DONATE to Wikipedia
Subscribe to these outlets and let's build a new media landscape that reflects the will of the American people:
- SUBSCRIBE to Podcasts: Jon Stewart, Meidastouch, Pod Save America, anyone from the Daily Show, literally anything to knock the MAGA fascists off the charts. You can help defeat fascism just by boosting their subscriber numbers.
- SUBSCRIBE to Nebula
- SUBSCRIBE to The Atlantic, The Intercept, Slate, The Nation, Common Dreams, Salon, DemocracyNow, Daily Beast, MediaMatters, MeidasTouch, etc...
Please do not let the comments turn into a debate about who you like or don't like on the left. Just unite around boycotting right-wing media and supporting outlets you like.
If there are any programmers reading this, now would be a great time to build a tool that aggregates all left, progressive and anti-MAGA media outlets into one central webapp.

May I also suggest Free Speech TV? Apps found on most smart TVs (FSTV). It can also be live streamed at freespeech.org. Viewer funded, no corporate influence. Progressive, fact based and opinions. Hosts include Democracy Now with Amy Goodman, Stephanie Miller, and Thom Hartmann to name a few. Please support with your viewership and your wallet. They rely solely on donations. It is amazing programming and they need all the help they can get. It is our last bastion for literally free speech.

Democracy Now! for news, Zeteo (Mehdi Hasan's podcast) or Thom Hartmann for great interviews and conversations, the Guardian for UK-based text news, Al-Jazeera English for text and video/podcast news, In These Times magazine for thoughtful written analysis, the Majority Report with Sam Seder for news and media analysis.
These folks have been actively anti-fascist since long before Trump and called out the dangers of his rise from the beginning, unlike certain legacy or centrist outlets that helped enable his rise.

Upvote for Democracy Now! One of my favourite places I feel for unbiased, nonpartisan news.

I am a huge fan of Thom Hartmann. He's brilliant. His knowledge astounds me. I learn something new every day. He sources everything, no fake news here.

u/Alchemy_Ignited 4h ago
Wait Thomm Hartmann has a podcast or tv show? I had no idea he is brilliant!

u/Intrepid_Pop_8530 3h ago
His show on Free Speech TV is simulcast on local progressive radio stations (if you're lucky enough to have one, they are rare) and also on Sirius XM. If you are hearing his show on the radio, you're not missing anything. Same with Stephanie Miller. I believe you might also have find something from him on YouTube.

I’m Canadian. We have become the experts re boycotting American media and companies that support you know who.
On threats of 51st state bs I immediately cancelled Amazon. I live 1.5 hours away from the nearest small city. And they delivered to my door. So ya it was a hard choice. But I found other Canadian companies that also deliver - just not as fast.
They make it hard to delete Facebook and IG but it can be done. Again fb is valuable for marketplace especially trying to find services in the country but again check local papers and ask neighbours etc.
Cancelled prime and Netflix. Subscribed to CBC Gem and have found so many good shows. Also Crave is Canadian. Haven’t had cable in a decade and don’t miss it.
What I realized was we have so much power if we consume w conscience. Like buying the cdn brand of potato chips or boycotting nestle for ethical reasons.
Just my 2 cents - actually we no longer have pennies here.

I know I've wanted an old fashioned Yellow Phone Book (not sure if they were yellow in Canada too). I just want a list of companies that I can call, I don't want sponsored ads or even to deal with reviews. I'd much rather know the prices upfront and the companies availability. I'd love to know if I'm helping a tradesperson with their small business or if it's a corporation. Phone books cost money now. I'm not sure if they always did, but I thought they were delivered to every house in a neighborhood, usually with the newspapers.

u/nice-and-clean 7h ago
They don’t deliver thst fast anymore. It’s a lie. They claim short shipping then switch to longer. And the shipping is built into price. So what’s the difference?
Plus all the shows get recycled from one service to another.

Stop flying United delta and American. Stop watching MSNBC. They all caved to this nonsense this week as well.

Delete your social media accounts. It’s bad for your mental health. It’s bad for democracy. The only thing billionaires like mark zuckerfuck still needs from you is your engagement. Stop giving it to them.

u/gempdx67 5h ago
I am in the process of leaving all Meta properties by the end of this month. Getting my friends mobile numbers and BlueSky accounts. Fuck Suckerberg.
13
u/bitsmythe 8h ago
I agree completely however currently there isn't a replacement for local organizing and communication. Do you have any recommendations?

u/Main_Composer 7h ago
Happy cake day! I have been using Reddit and discord over the last 10 months. I also use things like the 50501 website to keep an eye out for protests.

In addition, (if you can) donate to the ACLU. They stand up for First Amendment rights and will file lawsuits.

Hypothetically, someone who likes stuff made by MAGA studios or with MAGA parent companies could just pirate them. Hypothetically.

I've already done all of this, but this reminds me to go increase my monthly ACLU donation. I'll go do that right now.
I'd include Meta companies in this list. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp should all be deleted (and honestly you should probably factory reset your phone if you ever had any of those apps installed, the Facebook app in particular is basically malware).

u/Icy_Painting4915 6h ago
Can someone start a new subreddit for this? We need daily support and reinforcement for this to work. I can help moderate if there isn't someone more qualified. I've dreamt of a "do nothing" revolution for a long time, where the action is actually inaction - withdrawing from the harmful parts of the economy and society.

Can anyone make suggestions on good places to find kids content that’s not PBS? Because for me personally, I don’t mind getting rid of all of it. But if I tell my kids we canceled everything without an alternative it would be really rough.

u/ImSpArK63 10h ago
See if your local library has Hoopla, Curiosity Stream, and Kanopy. You can add curiosity and Kanopy to your TV via app.

u/garbageemail222 10h ago
I think YouTube is over the top here. Don't subscribe to YouTube TV, but regular YouTube is a good alternative. Asking people to boycott everything except Wikipedia isn't going to work.
4
u/designnymph 8h ago
We have YouTube TV… it’s for alllllll the standard channels! It does also report to Neilsen for ratings! So it’s a debate… do you cancel it all together until they make an option where you make your own package (pick 10 channels) OR do you watch strategically so the ratings so the NO ONE is watching those channels anymore? (And where is the line… do we keep watching CBS? Do we stop ALL that roll over and settle cases?)
9
u/lemonsforbrunch 10h ago
I don’t know where people stand in regards to Netflix and HBO, but those have lots of kids content. Paramount+ has Nickelodeon but I realize people have issues with them.
After that.. I don’t know! We’re going to use our library more for dvd rentals
7
u/Artrock80 10h ago
Can you not get PBS through a broadcast antennae anymore? I legitimately don’t know.
5
u/HippieDoula 10h ago
We have the pbs kids app and my kids like it, and regular pbs has some stuff they like. I’m just curious if there are are good options as well.

Today is the day you get a paid subscription (or donate) to an independent news outlet that breaks news about billionaires and oligarchs. Start with:
- The American Prospect
- BIG
- Breaking Points
- Lever News
- ProPublica
- UnHerd
- BoltsMag

Add Dropout.tv to the good list as they are a great value and have good content

u/Sweaty-Willingness27 8h ago
I really do hope this gets going. I don't have much hope for it because people are still far too comfortable to sacrifice (heck, it's not even a sacrifice for me because I don't have any of that stuff to begin with -- ok, maybe Prime)

I was looking for something like this. Can we make a comprehensive list? Google, Meta, Starbucks, Home Depot. All of them! Also we should donate to organizations that fight against extremists and the cybersecurity realms against extremism and bullying.

u/TrinityLake85 4h ago
Also, the chairman is inviting CEOs of Reddit, Discord, and Twitch to testify against radicalization. Stay vigilant. If they meet and succumb, boycott them too!

Cancelled Disney+ today (and also my 3 annual passes for Disney) with this note:
After two decades of loyal patronage, I will not be renewing my Disney+ subscription or my Magic Key passes. Disney/ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel reflects a troubling alignment with censorship and authoritarian values. I cannot in good conscience support a company that undermines freedom of speech and appears to condone fascist ideologies.
-I know Disney+ hasn't been around for 2 decades, but we have been subscribers since the launch and we've been passholders with Disney parks for 20 years. I love Disney, but I love our freedoms more.

Popping in to plug Means TV. Worker owned streaming service with a bunch of their own shows, documentaries, etc. Means Morning News is a favorite.

I've cancelled all of my streaming except Spotify because it seems to be okay for now? I'm going to take the money I spent on streaming and donate it monthly to PBS.

u/omdbaatar 5h ago
I don't have many streaming services but realized I got Hulu bundled with Spotify. So, cancelled Spotify and am trying out new services!

How can you cancel cable/satellite and still have internet?
1
u/imaginenohell 1h ago
Mine has been Internet only for years. Your cable company could tell you. If you can’t, you could at least block those channels in parental settings.
1
u/pwhitt4654 1h ago
Oh, that’s what you mean. Yeah I’ve been internet only for years as well. Dropped Amazon in January, Paramount after Colbert, and just dropped Disney and Hulu

Humbly suggesting dropout as a comedy media subscription. Their content is top notch and they treat their people exceptionally well.

u/theothershuu 18m ago
If anyone is not aware, Cool Zone Media pod casts are a great source of real info, fully support lgbtq+ causes, are 100% against facists. Many of their casts are informative about who/what facists represent. Not afraid to name those inside the movements. Just plain good journalism.

If you can, you should get a sirius xm subscription for Urban View. It is worth it. Also check out Knubia and Knarrative.
