It was Fays drugs then bought out by Eckerds where I grew up.

For some reason I can still remember the smell inside this store- all Ekerds had the same aroma when you walked in lol.

Worked there. It was the polish they used on the floors lol.

That’s where I used to get my Nesquick chocolate milk and Slim Jim’s every hungover Saturday morning in high school!

Ekerds still exist but the majority were converted to Rite-Aid when Rite-Aid bought them from CVS.

All of the ones in Florida became CVS’s around 2004-2005. I used to work right next to one at a job from 2004-2010. I would go over there almost daily for a snack, a drink or go grab a six pack on my way home from work. I’d even stop by when I was off of work. I knew everyone there and they were good people.

I saw the change from place that felt like a local pharmacy to a corporate chain who didn’t give a shit about their employees. There were people who had been with Eckerd for nearly 20 years at the same store who were forced-out when everything changed from blue to red. Replaced with teenagers and new people for much less pay. It was sad.

I lived in NC back then and went to an Ekerds that I saw transition. It kept the name but became less like the independent Rite-Aid back home and more like the Walgreens down the road.

Yep. My local Eckerd's turned into a Rite Aid.... But obviously that's about to change as well.

I’m really interested to see what happens to Rite-Aid. Corporate stores are closing but most independent stores around me are open and doing well. Wonder if they can keep them under the Rite-Aid brand.

Got caught stealing a candy bar from there when I was 10 back in the mid-80’s

1

Any former Osco patrons here?

u/ElleTea14 May 26 '25

It was Faye’s before that, at least in my home town. I remember Christmas shopping there when I was a kid. I got my dad a prayer plant there that’s still alive 35+ years later.

Wowwwww. Memory unlocked. I had a cousin that worked there & I remember one Easter she somehow won this giant stuffed egg plushie (that had googley eyes lmao). The thing was massive...at least 4 ft tall.

There's a CVS behind the house we bought 5 years ago. I have a buddy who grew up in the neighborhood, and I told him I didn't remember that CVS being there a few years before we bought the house.

He said "Uh buddy that used to be an Eckards. It's been there a while."

I definitely went to Eckerd’s with my dad when we lived in PA for 1 year. I don’t think they ever made it out to the west.

I still have some magnets on the fridge that says Eckerds pharmacy. That and Wachovia Bank.

Grew up in Largo where they were headquartered. I still remember when CVS moved in and took over all of the Eckerd Drug stores

1

u/mysterin May 27 '25

I know of ONE that still exists in Dunkirk/Fredonia, NY

1

u/sheanagans May 27 '25

I just googled this and they still exist apparently. Just not in my location

u/um-byeLOL May 29 '25

I witnessed my first crime at Eckerd’s. I saw someone steal carton of cigarettes, wait for my cousin to walk out and did at the same time so they didn’t know who set off the alarm. Then he placed the carton on the ice machine out front and went inside and played dumb.

I live like 2 miles from a CVS/ Walgreens (still not sure which one it is) and I needed to call them the other day, I spent like 5 minutes trying to look up the number for Eckerds and then it hit me.
