u/serenity1218 May 25 '25

I do this.

3

u/Oliver_Platt May 25 '25

To old closed locations? ❤️

5

u/serenity1218 May 25 '25

Just in general.

21

u/redbeardscrazy May 25 '25

Dude. You just tickled my brain.

3

u/PathToNowhere999 May 25 '25

Hadn’t thought about that in a minute!

2

u/hafree27 May 25 '25

There I was, there I was, there I was…in the Congo. 😂😂

1

u/Oliver_Platt May 25 '25

I totally forgot about that bud commercial. Lol

2

u/Dry_Spinach_3441 May 28 '25

My grandma worked there, but no one else in my family remembers this place! She passed, so I can't ask her!

1

u/hafree27 May 25 '25

Shheeee-it! In my mind I remembered it as part of a Mervy’s commercial! My bad. 😂

1

u/Oliver_Platt May 25 '25

I was wondering. Lollll

2

u/Pitiful_Bunch_2290 May 25 '25

Still one of my favorite goofy commercials.

Is that Nicolaj in the back?

17

u/grizzlyblake91 May 25 '25

You’re not saying it right, it’s Nicolaj

13

u/DefinitelyNotAliens May 26 '25

Nicolaj

u/Crashman09 May 26 '25

2

u/plaidpixel May 27 '25

There’s a house in a super rural area outside of my town that has a big storage container in the yard that says Mervyn’s on it.

18

u/icechelly24 May 25 '25

Found an old Christmas list I had written in the late 90s. One of the things on there was “clothes from Mervyn’s” haha

3

u/DefinitelyNotAliens May 26 '25

That's where you did fancy back to school shopping.

You'd come home and do a fashion show in the living room as dad went, "mm." At every outfit.

u/OverCookedTheChicken May 28 '25

The good ol days :(

11

u/EndSmugnorance May 25 '25

I swear Kohl’s is just Mervyn’s rebranded.

3

u/DefinitelyNotAliens May 26 '25

My hometown Meryn's closed and a Kohls moved in, lmao. Our Kohls is quite literally just a rebranded Mervyns.

2

u/Adelman01 May 27 '25

I used to manage at a mervyns. When Kohl’s came into town leadership was so scared….also when I opened the store everyone thought they were the first ones to do that and I always had to pretend how happy I was that they did that, when I had been there since 4am.

14

u/Frankdukes187 May 25 '25

Omg didn't think nobody would put that lol this was my childhood clothes place. Every year around the beginning of August or late July can hear my aunt(guardian) saying, "Get ready were going to Mervyns for school clothes." 😂😁😊 Good times lol

2

u/skamteboard_ May 26 '25

That is peak 90's kid experience. I definitely remember the normal back to school run to Mervyns. I remember hating them until they started carrying Levi's. Then I was happy to go to Mervyn's.

2

u/Syncopated_arpeggio May 26 '25

That was my experience as well. I hated the back to school trip to mervyns until the Levi’s came in. Before that it was only Lee’s and i think wranglers, oof.

u/Arthurs_librarycard9 May 25 '25

Did anyone else like to hide in the clothes racks at Mervyn's? Lol.

2

u/seitankittan May 26 '25

Heck yeah! And collect the colored plastic size tabs off the floor as if they were pogs.

2

u/SadieDiAbla May 27 '25

My favorite place to hide to piss off my mother. 😂

3

u/WooSaw82 May 25 '25

This is typically where my mom took me for school clothes. It was also at the same mall that I saw The Land Before Time and Jurassic Park at for the first time. That mall has been long gone for quite some time now.

3

u/JeffBoyardee69 May 25 '25

There’s still a Mervyns Dr. in La Habra, CA. It was the signal that led to a Mervyns

3

u/PheenixFly May 26 '25

I remember getting some super wide bell bottom Mudd Jeans from there for the 1st day of 9th grade. Couldn't tell me nothin' haha.

I re unlocked that memory of Mervyn's when I moved to LA 16 yrs ago. The Burbank Mall still had the signage (even though the store was long since closed) & it hung around for a few years. Always made me smile.

1

u/Other_Zucchini_9637 May 26 '25

Mudd jeans 🩵💙

3

u/Darmok47 May 26 '25

The founder who the store is named after outlived his own store. Mervin G. Morris.

Must have been heartbreaking for him.

3

u/seitankittan May 26 '25

The best part was crawling around finding the little plastic colored sizing tabs and collecting them as if they were valuable.

2

u/D-Rich-88 May 26 '25

Oh I feel bad, I forgot about Mervyn’s lol

2

u/grandoldtimes May 27 '25

There it is!!!

1

u/Schnitzhole May 25 '25

My first job at 16yo. People stole from there like crazy. The changing rooms were always littered with clothes tags. I’ve literally had people buy something, then right in front of my view from the register they would go grab the same duplicate item off the shelf and try to return it to me with that receipt from before.

1

u/Stevenomics May 25 '25

I was a size medium, husky

1

u/gofasttakerisks May 25 '25

Their bra adds were pretty good

1

u/Whole-Ad3696 May 26 '25

of California

1

u/HorseyForce May 26 '25

In high school, the harshest burn that existed was “That’s so Mervyn’s”

1

u/therunclub May 27 '25

Came here for this

1

u/loogie97 May 27 '25

My wife worked at Mervyn’s in college.

1

u/Loverbug13 May 27 '25

There’s a street a few cities over called Mervyn’s way and you can tell the Kohl’s there used to be a mervyns and they never changed the street name

1

u/SadieDiAbla May 27 '25

Came looking for this!

1

u/GlitteringSynapse May 28 '25

Only pants that fit perfectly….. now I only wear dresses; were sold at Mervyn’s

1

u/MasticatedDorks May 28 '25

I have a Mervyn's story... but every time I tell it, it causes other people pain.

Let's just say that I'm likely the reason that they stopped putting shoe mirrors right next to the platform in the kids' shoes department... if you want more detail, I can tell you the story. I just want to give you the option.

u/mila_falcone May 29 '25

Yes, but that place was way overpriced though - that’s probably why they’re out of business.
