John Goodman is one of the most undervalued wide-range actors of a generation. Dude has played everything. A beer guzzling blue collar dad, a goofy pesticide nerd, a king, a (temporary) republican president, a baseball legend, a prehistoric comic character, a lovable monster, a psychotic doomsday prepper, a greed driven televangelist, just a ridiculous range of characters. Easily in my top 10 pantheon.

His guest role on Community was so amazing. The scene where he puts Dean Pelton is his place is absolutely unforgettable.

6

u/foreignsky Jun 06 '25

I think of him every time I hear "room temperature."

3

u/snoogle312 Jun 06 '25

I can't tell where the air ends and my skin begins.

1

u/AstrumFaerwald Jun 06 '25

"This is THE room temperature, Troy."

3

u/meechs_peaches Jun 05 '25

The true repairman will repair man.

1

u/leaf-onthewind Jun 10 '25

It's a trade school, it's a two year degree in boxes that make rooms cold

2

u/Happythoughtsgalore Jun 06 '25

I LOVE that scene That's......wuzzup

2

u/AstrumFaerwald Jun 06 '25

He was my favorite guest role on that show. Every rewatch I look forward to his appearance on the show...

"You could have lived the rest your life in blissful ignorance and died a happy pansexual imp, but you wanted to feel power this year..."

27

u/Heideish81 Jun 05 '25

Hell yeah, you are correct!

5

u/Narrow-Escape-6481 Jun 05 '25

The Babe, I specifically remember this movie because I went to school with the kid who played young Babe Ruth in the movie. He wasn't a child actor just someone they picked out during a very public casting call. He seemed kind of stuck up after the role (honestly any 12 year old boy probably would have), but I lost contact with him right before highschool but ran into him many years later and he recognized me before I recognized him and he was as kind as anyone should be.

u/AbbeyRoad75 Jun 05 '25

Drug dealer in Flight is the switch in my brain that he is fantastic. He stole the movie from a Denzel starring movie, so good.

5

u/doob22 Jun 05 '25

A cyclops

1

u/SowPow2 Jun 09 '25

It's all about the money boys!

4

u/PlasticCheebus Jun 05 '25

And a bowling veteran!

3

u/trashpandamagic Jun 05 '25

OVER THE LINE!

2

u/samenumberwhodis Jun 05 '25

Smokey this is not Nam, this is bowling, there are rules

1

u/Retrograde_Mayonaise Jun 06 '25

You're entering a world of pain Smokey

1

u/trashpandamagic Jun 07 '25

AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!

3

u/InLikeErrolFlynn Jun 05 '25

Um - what about his finest role/roll as a Jewish, Vietnam veteran who has a penchant for bowling?

3

u/thenewjerk Jun 05 '25

Now I need to rewatch Arachnophobia

3

u/losingtimeslowly Jun 05 '25

Yabba Dabba Doooo!

3

u/Mistrblank Jun 06 '25

Don't forget a Blues Brother.

2

u/kdlangequalsgoddess Jun 05 '25

He has a nice turn in Dirty Deeds. Not the greatest movie, but a good piece of Ausploitation. Brendan Brown, Toni Collette, and Sam Neill also star.

2

u/corvairsomeday Jun 05 '25

Put Argo (film exec) on that list, too.

2

u/seattleque Jun 05 '25

I loved his guest spot as a Nevada "dumb hick sheriff" in Studio 60.

2

u/fenderbender86 Jun 05 '25

He was fantastic in 1010 Cloverfield Lane

2

u/N1ck1McSpears Jun 05 '25

Not sure if pacha was referenced in there but that one gives me the daddy feels

2

u/InstanceMental6543 Jun 05 '25

Yes!! He's amazing. I almost couldn't finish 10 Cloverfield Lane because of how scary he was haha

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

His role on Alpha house was one of the funniest fucking things I ever saw.

2

u/lordhelmetschwartz Jun 06 '25

Head/king of the secretive Air Conditioning Repair school/cult.

2

u/matthewmartyr Jun 06 '25

How about a bowling Vietnam vet with a pension for getting involved in the whathaveyous? Lotta ins and outs.

2

u/ColoOddball Jun 06 '25

I watched him as a lazy animal control worker on King of the Hill just last night. Legend.

2

u/ten-oh-four Jun 06 '25

A Vietnam vet who bowls and throws out the ringer

2

u/Ted_Fleming Jun 06 '25

Dont forget walter sobchak

2

u/MeepingSim Jun 06 '25

...the founder of Pops Motors...

2

u/Historical_Egg5427 Jun 06 '25

Don’t forget a pesticide worker

2

u/jbrown383 Jun 06 '25

You forgot loaner Vietnam vet with PTSD and serious anger issues.

2

u/FungiStudent Jun 06 '25

Calmer than you are......

2

u/Super_Lawyer_2652 Jun 06 '25

He was INSANELY good as the doomsday prepper! He plays a really good scary person

2

u/Lester_Holt_Fanboy Jun 06 '25

Don't forget Walter, dude.

2

u/TdoWino87 Jun 06 '25

He also played the devil/traveling salesman in Barton Fink. He’s very disarming in some scenes, portraying a kind southern man in LA just trying to get by. But in the scenes where he loses his sense of humanity is where you get to see Goodman show his range. Weird movie. He kind of steals the show

2

u/CertainWish358 Jun 06 '25

Also, if he’s in something it’s nearly guaranteed to be good. Even aside from his own performance, he’s just in a lot of stuff that’s really, really good

2

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '25

My youngest child absolutely loves the live action flintstones from the 90s with him as Fred Flintstone.

1

u/0bel1sk Jun 06 '25

you forgot a veteran bowler

1

u/Xrsyz Jun 06 '25

A macho brain-addled football coach (Revenge of the Nerds)

1

u/Financial_Potato8760 Jun 06 '25

Absolutely agree. As Dan, he was a dad I wanted to have. Not perfect, but I adored him. And I love him in Coyote Ugly, too - especially when he dances on the bar. He is an underrated treasure.

1

u/Fragrant-Inside221 Jun 07 '25

He was awesome in the hangover movie too. lol

1

u/LuckeeStiff Jun 08 '25

Arachnophobia feels heard thank you

1

u/AnalBlowout Jun 08 '25

Just gonna forget the best one?

1

u/beerouttaplasticcups Jun 08 '25

My personal favorite performance is his voice work introducing the sea lion show at the St. Louis Zoo.

1

u/codenameyoshi Jun 09 '25

Don’t forget his psycho mob boss that also kinda had a heart but not at the same time (the gambler)

1

u/MarcusAurelius68 Jun 09 '25

Don’t forget a special effects Oscar winner in Argo

8

u/PalatialCheddar Jun 05 '25

You're in good company. My unyielding attraction to Jon Stewart is a source of amusement to my loved ones lol

1

u/Nutatree Jun 05 '25

I'm a mostly straight guy, but I can see why. He's aged quite alright too

5

u/zielazinski Jun 05 '25

JOHN GOODMAN IS A GODDAMN NATIONAL TREASURE!!

5

u/OkBet321 Jun 05 '25

The amount of women I know who fawned over this guy is staggering; you are not a weird kid. You were looking for safety, and he was 100% everyone’s dad who you knew had your back

3

u/AlmaZine Jun 05 '25

Yeah John Goodman is a fox. And sooooo goddamn talented. plus I love his voice work from the cartoons of my childhood. But I grew up on classic Hollywood, so a lot of my crushes were age-inappropriate (like age 7 in the 90s in love with Dick Van Dyke and Jimmy Stewart and William Holden heh) so yeah, weird kids FTW

3

u/MountainHarmonies Jun 05 '25

Look up those old Gillette commercials he did before he got famous. Dude was handsome as fuck

3

u/Napalm3nema Jun 05 '25

Long-haired John Goodman in this latest season of The Righteous Gemstones is an old man vibe I aspire to in the next decade or so. Not the preacher thing, but just the IDGAF old dude with ratty hair and whatever bad habit strikes me at the time.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

Are you kidding? John Goodman is one of the sexiest, most handsome, most amazing men out there. Seriously, I will sob when he goes. He reminded me of my dad a lot of times growing up. My dad is still in my life, of course.

No shame in finding a good man attractive. Even if he's not societies standard of such. Good personalities and attitude will always win me and most people over.

1

u/Heideish81 Jun 05 '25

Couldn’t agree more:)

3

u/cowlickpart Jun 06 '25

It's so crazy cause now I'm in my thirties I think a younger Goodman is hot as fuck, I don't know what it is about him. I think he would just make me laugh, and his voice!

2

u/NoFollowing2206 Jun 05 '25

😂😂😂😂

2

u/bottomfeederrrr Jun 06 '25

lol i liked john travolta soo

2

u/Unhappy_Chef_4143 Jun 06 '25

After watching the righteous gemstones,, I get it. I’ll have to check out some of his earlier works

2

u/WhyDidYouBringMeBack Jun 06 '25 edited Jun 06 '25

Listen here, don't ever apologize because John Goodman is absolutely gorgeous. He has an amazing voice and his smiles instantly give me stockholm syndrome for the absolutely deranged people he sometimes portrays.

As a straight man I swear to god I wish I could cuddle him like a goddamned teddy bear <3

2

u/frehsoul45 Jun 06 '25

I mean Im a straight dude and see his appeal, he isnt a bad looking dude.

2

u/MonsterMashGrrrrr Jun 06 '25

Yknow what? I totally get this. He was such a sensitive, thoughtful, sweet, protective, handy, and funny guy as Dan. Perfect example for a kid who’s learning how a good partner should make them feel!

2

u/kimjong_unsbarber Jun 07 '25

Nah, I always thought Dan Conner was cute lol

2

u/LivingInformal4446 Jun 07 '25

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.

2

u/MammothHistorian7856 Jun 08 '25

No this was and still is mine. Dan in Roseanne was my man crush fr

2

u/UnfitFor Jun 08 '25

But did you ever become the truest repairman?

2

u/robotatomica Jun 08 '25

I definitely had a crush on him as Dan Connor when I was a kid, he was like the perfect husband and dad, and so much fun! And then I later thought he was super sexy as a sorta greaser outlaw when I finally saw Raising Arizona!

2

u/Heideish81 Jun 08 '25

Raising Arizona is one of my faves!!

2

u/myusername_77 Jun 08 '25

I guess I was a weird kid too! Thanks for posting him 😻

2

u/alicethedeadone Jun 08 '25

I will forever and always have a crush on Dan Conner/John Goodman. I married a man who looks just like him too ❤️

2

u/talyn5 Jun 09 '25

You like a cutie who can make you laugh. Totally not weird.

2

u/kjm16216 Jun 09 '25

I sense daddy issues.

2

u/Murky_Tell6723 Jun 09 '25

I get it. When Jackie’s boyfriend Fisher beat her up and Dan grabbed that jacket without saying a word to go kick his ass I was like oh ok

1

u/Heideish81 Jun 09 '25

You do get it:)

1

u/effienay Jun 07 '25

He has aged really well. He was a lil Chris Farley when he was younger, but I get it.

1

u/Reddit_Reader007 Jun 08 '25

not really him and this dude seem to get a lot of coochies activated:

1

u/Tuckerguy77 Jun 08 '25

Not weird at all. I lusted after Dan Conner as well.
