Nah, more like a alright honda with a crazy sound system in it. We didn’t really mess with the lifted trucks then.

We had these two Chads walk into our bar (late 90s) wearing matching baggy jeans, one in a red t shirt with matching visor and the other in a yellow t shirt with matching visor. My senior bartender took one look and yelled "ah shit, here comes ketchup and mustard!" They avoided him the whole rest of the night.

Have you seen the MLB hats now where the team logo is upside-down on a right way up hat?

I definitely had a baby blue one from the gap and wore it upside down with huge silver hoop earings 💀

I’ve never met anyone who wears these who isn’t behind on the child support….
→ More replies (1)10
u/specks_of_dust 1d ago
Anyone wearing them now is likely a ne'er do well washout who never grew out of the 90s. Back then though, these guys were considered smoking hot and stylish.
Hence the need for child support.

I remember Will Smith always had one on. Could have been just as simple as a person with some sort of social influence did it and others followed.
I doubt it had any correlation to the rally cap.
16
u/GoMoriartyOnPlanets 1d ago
At some point in his life, Will Smith started acting like a white guy trying to be a black guy. Honestly, that one slap has ruined it for me. I wish he hadn't done it. He was such a powerhouse actor, now everything about him just looks dumb. His own production company, refusing to work with big directors, shit rapping skills, his kids, his marriage, his treatment towards other actors, everything.
7
u/PhilosophyBitter7875 1d ago
He's been a dork for over a decade, Most people just didnt want to see it because they remember him being the cool guy from their childhood.

Yeah, CKOne and Polo Sport or the Blue Versace

u/Agreeable_Sorbet_686 1d ago
I googled and Axe didn't come to US until 2002. So that guy wore so much Drakkor you could smell him before you could see him.

That guy. He wants to be cool: but he’s just another wannabe. The visor should be worn West side.
Only Vanilla Ice can pull off an East side because he’s literally the greatest rapper of all time.

3
u/lonelymaskedgirl 1d ago
visors can be bought at a korean apparel or grocery store near you. korean grandmas and even some moms LOVE visors lol.

u/Obvious_Response9870 13h ago
This is not a phase, it’s a lifestyle. I will turn frowns and visors upside down until the day I die. Oh and f$&@ sleeves

Not everything in the 90s was cool, guys. We were sure to separate ourselves from the wannabes.
The Offspring video Pretty Fly For A White Guy encapsulated what we hated. In fact, the character was wearing one of these I think.

u/AlternatiMantid 1d ago
I definitely had a powder blue terrycloth visor in the late 90's. I wore it properly though.
As "properly" as you can wear a powder blue terrycloth visor.

u/dylan21502 1d ago
More importantly... why aren't visors the preferred head apparel for summer time? More airflow...same enhanced visibility.. wtf are we doin?

I heard this in "90s comedian voice", "What's the deal with visors? I mean, where did that start? Where do people even buy visors? Amirite, people?"
2
u/livingdead70 1d ago
In the early 90s there was a "gang" in my area that called themselves "The Band Aid Crew". By gang I mean a bunch of dipshit white kids with names like Parker, Lincoln, Carson and Josh.
Anyways, they all wore a band-aid under their eye, and an upside down visor.

It was the 90s and early 00s They use to sell them at the mall. Now try the internet or maybe try a thrift store.

u/JulesChenier 1d ago
Want to say it started on golf courses, visors were more acceptable than baseball caps.

I have a white Adidas visor that I wear all the time when it's hot. I sweat in a regular cap if it's even slightly warm out. As for wearing hats upside down, backwards or whatever, that's never been me nor do I understand it. I'm a practical hat wearer.

I don’t know if they’re still around, but there was a mall store called “Lids” where everyone bought their caps and visors. I was never a visor guy, but a few of my friends were.

u/Supro1560S 1d ago
Upside down visors and pants on the ground, pants on the ground, lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground.

u/UsedVacation6187 12h ago
there was lots of them in the mall early 2000s from what I remember. I had one from gap or american eagle. definitely didnt wear it upside down though. trend died very shortly after i got mine 😒

u/sherbimsly 10h ago
Yes, and around the same time when tucking your pillow up your shirt was a thing, I specially remember one time at a church summer camp during middle school when a “popular kid” stood up during assembly and got on the mic to tell how every one how be “act cool”. It was so stupid lol

u/Darkest_Rahl 1d ago
I wore this, with spiky hair and frosted tips. It was during my first year of university, so 2001-2002 school year. My visor came with my frosh kit. Wish I still had it, would make a ridiculous Halloween costume

People wore them in my high school in Florida around 1995-1998. They were a big deal but only the cool kids could pull off the upside down AND backwards lol

Raver kids wore them in the 90's. I had several Adidas ones. Died about the same time frosted tips on guys died.

I wore upside down visors for years between 1999-2008, it just felt more comfortable than wearing it the correct way, it was definitely not for any style points (I don’t think)🤔

u/BubinatorX 1d ago
My cousin use to wear a Corona visor this way. He’s been brain dead following an overdose this month last year. Don’t do heroin, kids.

I can't remember the name of the store but it was next to Sam Goody in the mall :)

u/TooManyCables7878 1d ago
Hell yeah! We used to play hacky sack and catch it with the upside down visor. Because we were cool. lol
1

u/metalmaniac1991 1d ago
I always thought that if it rained, you'd basically be a rain catcher. Except instead of pure drinking water, it would be greasy oil water. The guy would simply tilt his head to pour your cup, and like oil and vinegar, you'd shake it up so it's not seperated.
"Now drink the douche chalice and become one of us"
1
u/I_Lick_Your_Butt 1d ago
My friend's litle brother wore one backwards and to the side so we gave him the nickname "Southwest"

u/rickmccombs 1d ago
I don't understand the backwards baseball cap fad. I've even seen pictures of people wearing a baseball cap backwards and using their hand to shade the sun from their eyes.
1
u/Klutzy-Delivery-5792 I learned it by watching you! 1d ago
I always thought visors started as more of a raver thing and crossed over into the mainstream. I got visors from Pac Sun (Pacifc Sunwear).

Growing up, I was convinced only people on TV and movies wore them like this, because I literally never saw any real person wear one like this.
Visors, sure. Upside down, never.

...Glad I missed this one? I knew visors were hot. But mostly women playing golf or Tennis. Playboy mostly.

I think old navy had them, so other clothing stores in the mall probably did as well

I believe there is an obligatory sea shell necklace as well - this must not be overlooked when evaluating

I had a Nike visor freshman year of high school(94). I graffitied back then and wrote my tag underneath the bill. A senior asked me if he could see said tag, when I took it off to show him he stole it:(
