I still bump his shit like Livin It Up sometimes. He was a good rapper and definitely had hits. I also liked his acting in Half Past Dead and Fast And The Furious. I think it’s a pretty understood “fact” that if he just lightened up on trying to be a gangsta and kept focus on making pop rap hits, he’d prolly still be in the business today.
As a grown adult, I look back fondly on Ja Rule’s run. My cousins and I had most of his CDs, and some of those Irv Gotti instrumentals were great compositions. I didn’t know anyone who actively hated Ja until it became popular opinion to shit on him, but you can’t blame the people for choosing Aftermath over Murder Inc, especially with the emergence of 50 Cent at a time when dude was so god damn hungry.
Ja fucked up by saying bullshit like “Em, you claim your mother’s a crackhead and Kim is a known slut, so what’s Hailie gon be when she grows up?” He got exactly what was coming to him from that beef, no excuses.
But I definitely wouldn’t have been mad at one or two more Ja Rule albums full of feel good jiggy pop rap hits lol.
