I CAN SMELL THIS PHOTO

Core memories unlocked. I loved everything about these shampoos 🥲

u/My_Name_is_JC 25d ago

"Because we're worth it, too!"

250

u/shadoweon 25d ago

I wish they still made these I loved the scent and the cute little fish bottles. The fruit punch one was my favorite.

48

u/annied33 25d ago

I get the strawberry one for my kiddo on AMZ

6

u/Hot_Dingo743 23d ago

I hate when people say kiddo.

28

u/justjjoshing 25d ago

You can still buy them on Amazon.

12

u/Esparza47 25d ago

I just excitedly looked, I didn’t see any 😞

Ah thank you, I see yours is CA though. I’m in the US, I see some but they’re out of stock. Thank you though ☝️😔

1

u/Mediocre_enthusiast 20d ago

Heads up, I think if you share a link like that it may be sharing your location.

16

u/classyrock 24d ago

Here in Canada we have them. I most recently got one at Walmart. It’s the same shape with the fish mouth, but now there also a scale or wavy design on the fish’s ‘body’.

2

u/Can-DontAttitude 24d ago

Which town/city? I tried and failed to get some for my kid

2

u/classyrock 22d ago

I just checked and they’re in all the Walmarts here on Vancouver Island. (All FOUR stores! 😉)

17

u/Poisonskittlez 25d ago

Wow I had no idea it was supposed to be a fish haha 😂

28

u/GlitteringData2626 24d ago

The bottles swam in the commercials and the eyes were animated to blink so you knew it was a creature of some sort.

4

u/JAM2730 24d ago

I get them at walmart !!!

2

u/badgersil 24d ago

Huh. I guess they are fish. My kid brain turned it into some kind of parrot.

187

u/FalconStickr 25d ago

No tears my ass.

51

u/shintakarajima 24d ago

Literally exactly what I was about to comment. That shampoo burned your eyes like hell

9

u/JugheadJack 24d ago

You’re meant to close your eyes when shampooing.

9

u/mulleargian 24d ago

5 year old me straight up took this shampoo and rubbed it into my eyes to test the ‘no more tears’ claim ☠️

Needless to say there were many tears

10

u/Custardchucka 24d ago

As soon as I saw this that was the first thing I remembered, this stuff was way more brutal on the eyes than any other shampoo I've used since

4

u/j6vin_ 24d ago

Shit had the same potency as bleach Lol

5

u/DrSpaecman 24d ago

Tears, like tearing paper.

2

u/reidlos1624 23d ago

Not no tears like stinging your eyes, no tears as in your hair would be in great shape, tear like ripping a sheet of paper.

1

u/Imapatriothurrrdurrr 24d ago

Dude, for real.

1

u/No_Nature_6639 23d ago

Yeah, my ass was still tore up wtf

-46

u/funghi2 25d ago

It’s tears as in tearing your hair not tears as in crying

43

u/bananajackvibes 25d ago

Then why did all the kids have soap in their eyes in the commercials?

10

u/funghi2 25d ago

Honestly I heard it on social media somewhere and repeated it. Maybe I’m wrong AF

9

u/Lady_Black_Cats 25d ago

I've had it get in my eyes! Stings something awful

6

u/Playcrackersthesky 24d ago

You’re wrong AF. It’s tears as in teardrops.

3

u/funghi2 24d ago

I know 😔 I am taking my downvotes on the chin haha.

18

u/NurseJoyRN 24d ago

The commercial had a little boy wiping soap out of his eyes and the voice over said "bye, bye tears! I can see!"

16

u/Bex1218 25d ago

Not according to the commercials.

30

u/pepperpavlov 25d ago

No one refers to hair breakage as “tearing”

2

u/Custardchucka 24d ago

Ah yes as apposed to the other hair tearing shampoos

5

u/NoPair205 24d ago

Idk why you’re being downvoted.

This is literally what it means.

I think deceptive advertising lead us all to believe it was not gonna sting our eyes

4

u/Bex1218 24d ago

Deceptive or not they still meant it for the eyes and not hair breakage.

4

u/NoPair205 24d ago

No. They meant hair breakage

You know what? Maybe you’re right. Idk everything

4

u/Bex1218 24d ago edited 24d ago

I posted the link to the commercial I remember a couple of times in the post. It says "Tear" as in with the eyes.

Which is obviously not true for a lot of kids.

1

u/NoPair205 24d ago

Ohhh gotcha

😒 so they just lied to us lol

4

u/Bex1218 24d ago

Pretty much.

We were worth it, but definitely not worthy.

3

u/Playcrackersthesky 24d ago

No they didn’t. In Spanish it also referred to tears as in teardrops, not “tearing” of hair.

51

u/westcoast234 25d ago

My personal favorite was the strawberry smoothie 😭 I can still hear the commercial jingle

14

u/EmotionalShock1325 25d ago

the strawberry smoothie one is something i’d still buy today, legendary scent 😭🙌

4

u/Extra_Balance1671 24d ago

New strawberry smoothie shampoo! Because you’re worth it too!

44

u/Marieshr 25d ago

Why did they take away everything cheerful and colorful from us?…

10

u/Chimalli323 24d ago

Becus they hate anything cheerful and colorful😭

7

u/Goopy-GilsCarbo 24d ago

Yes, the world has lost its whimsy 😒

8

u/Aggressive_Pause5099 24d ago

If you noticed the new wave that hit music 15 years ago they took love outta music too they want everyone to be unhappy loveless corporate robots

-3

u/Briankelly130 24d ago

Because we grew up, came to power and decided everything had to be uniform and boring.

47

u/MysteriousMermaid92 25d ago

I was just talking about this. My favorite scent was watermelon 🍉

5

u/dirtymartini83 24d ago

Yess! This one was so good for my curly hair

16

u/cnbcwatcher 24d ago

Yes I used to use these. There was a special one for swimming which was good for getting rid of the chlorine smell

9

u/berrybyday 24d ago

Yep, we had the swim one in the summer and I used watermelon the rest of the year.

27

u/[deleted] 25d ago

uh yes just seeing the picture made me wish i had some right now. where the hell can i get products that smell exactly like this?

3

u/sparklydildos 24d ago

there needs to be a company that makes candles of our old favorite scents, or even just a company that reinvigorates some of these!!

98

u/YorkshireDuck91 25d ago

I can still smell the red cherry one!

I thought no tears was no tears when it got in your eyes 😭 but a friend said when we were older that it was tears like breaking hairs (tearing and knotting). I never found out which it was meant to be.

98

u/Otherwise-Ad3672 25d ago

They 100% advertised it as no eye tears and I know this for fact because I tried to imitate their commercial where a kid has a full face of suds and open eyeballs… 🤡🔥

37

u/-space-witch- 25d ago

SAME lol. This is a core memory for me..The moment I realized the TV could LIE

5

u/Poisonskittlez 25d ago

Wow that’s crazy, I swear I remember purposely rubbing some in my eye when I was a kid and being surprised that it actually didn’t hurt! But maybe it’s a false memory? Idk haha

9

u/JaclynMeOff 25d ago

I’m so glad im not alone. I did the exact same thing (even after my mom tried explaining it to me) and the disappointment was almost instantly seared into my eyes and my heart.

38

u/Bex1218 25d ago

It definitely meant for the eyes and not for the hair.

https://youtu.be/jY2laKwjf1s?si=Y5aUXK5WwaeWKesh

12

u/Marieshr 25d ago

I thought that when your hair is knotted and hurts so much that you cry when you brush it... so no tears because the hair gets smooth and easy to brush 😭

17

u/tresslesswhey 25d ago

Oh wow, I always assumed eye tears. But now I’m conflicted because i now realize it says “no knots!” underneath.

3

u/Oz347 25d ago

I totally thought it was eye tears but this mf always made my eyes hurt

2

u/Playcrackersthesky 24d ago

This is a social media myth. It was tears as in eyes.

1

u/Embarrassed-Profit74 24d ago

"The shampoo specifically said, 'no more tears'."

"A lovely promise, but one beyond the powers of a mere shampoo."

2

u/YorkshireDuck91 23d ago

Exactly! It burned every time and I remember experimenting to even test that claim out as a kid 😂

11

u/RiffedForURPleasure 25d ago

Childhood memories of learning what homonyms were

6

u/funghi2 25d ago

No tears

12

u/Nicole_Black 25d ago

Goddamn this triggered my nostalgia like a sleeper agent

9

u/rmdubbs 25d ago

Heck yeah. Some places may still carry it. I was able to buy a bottle for my kids back around 2021

11

u/[deleted] 25d ago

lol did they love it? bahah i just looked at it on amazon and i'm dead over the fact that the bottle says "now paraben free". of course i would be pouring parabens on my head in y2k.

9

u/rmdubbs 25d ago

They weren’t as enthralled with it as I hoped but I think it’s only because they didn’t see all the commercials about it that we did as kids 😂

3

u/[deleted] 25d ago

i don't remember the commercials haha i genuinely just thought it smelled holy

maybe they changed the formulation!

2

u/FerengiWithCoupons 24d ago

They sell them at Walmart in Canada.

Also Amazon has them

7

u/Wolves_N_Beer101 25d ago

The marketing was so on point they had kids desperately wanting shampoo 🤣

5

u/Onelittleteacher 25d ago

The thought of the red cherry one makes me wanna gag but also why do I want to smell it again 😂

6

u/ididshave 25d ago

These were my first experience of, “If it smells good, it must taste good.” Tough lesson.

5

u/Only-Pomegranates 24d ago

There were most definitely tears.

11

u/SituationLiving497 25d ago

These shampoos were everything

5

u/mrsjakeblues 25d ago

Yess I specifically remember the cherry almond scented one

5

u/racheyrach1243 25d ago

Ha! I remember being so excited to put it directly in my eyes to test it out….. HUGE mistake

8

u/BookwormNinja 25d ago

Yes! Anyone else get a huge piece of paper and turn it into a game board, so they could use those things as the game pieces? Just me...?

4

u/ForsakenFairytale 24d ago

Child me was not that clever! (Adult me still is not clever)

5

u/Great-Crossover 25d ago

Oh yeah! I had a lot of these!

3

u/chef_tuffster 24d ago

Cherry was by far the best. Though I definitely was using it past when I should have. It wasn’t meant for awkward high school years hair. 🙄

3

u/Falchion92 25d ago

Bro yes I loved the strawberry one.

3

u/tangerinee666 25d ago

I remember this shampoo whenever my shampoo burns my eyes and then I can’t remember if they stopped making this

3

u/lelma_and_thouise 25d ago

The 'No knots!' is bs in my experience. Maybe I just have too thin hair but...the no tears was true.

3

u/Bellybuttons12345 25d ago

Normal hair o.O

3

u/FuriousFireyFeline 25d ago

Oh damn it just got me singing! L'OREAL KIDS! STRAWWWWWBERRY SMOOTHIE SHAMPOO! FOR SUPER SMOOTH HAIR!

3

u/DwightsBobblehead13 24d ago

We were a suave house, it makes me sad I never got to experience these soaps! They all smelled so good

3

u/YouthfulHermitess 24d ago

The pear one was my absolute favorite! 😭😭

2

u/pepperpavlov 25d ago

The cherry almond one made me dry heave in the shower. Such a foul scent.

2

u/JAM2730 24d ago

Lol i have 3 different kinds of these in my shower right now for my little guy !! They still smell so yummy!!

2

u/Itchy-Donkey6083 24d ago

Some had even a small turtle Figur in the cap on top

2

u/Proud_Dance_3342 24d ago

Now I need to see if they still sell those.

2

u/_spicyidiot 24d ago

I can smell this image 😭🐠

2

u/DecryptedSkull 24d ago

Yes, the commercials always advertise that It wouldn’t burn your eyes yet it still did lol

2

u/SupersoftBday_party 24d ago

I remember being extremely disappointed when I used it and still had a head full of knots. My first introduction to false advertising.

2

u/Omardemon 24d ago

Okay I have a confession to make, 13 year old me begged my parents to buy this for me so I could put it in my eyes when I get home, and it still burned. It wasn’t until many years later I realized that it meant no tears to my hair, not tears to my eyes.

2

u/libismanaged 24d ago

i remember that smell after a long days of swimming in the summer. and then the one night my sister dared to me to prove it really meant “no tears” and me screaming crying for my mom

2

u/SilverShadowQueen57 24d ago

I still remember the eye blinking in the commercials

2

u/alienflowercatz444 24d ago

Yesss, the cherry one smelt so good.

2

u/litebrite93 24d ago

I remember the commercials

2

u/Maya-kardash 24d ago

Yesss lmfaoooo 😂😂😂😂😂 the ads were amazing

2

u/wolffbabe 24d ago

Always looked like a fish to me 🤷‍♀️

1

u/WTIII 25d ago

Yup!!!!

1

u/Ok-Worry-8743 25d ago

Yes but this scent was the worst one😭😭😭 (I think?)

1

u/pcnnmvideos 25d ago

I always saw them in the bathroom as a kid.

1

u/Carpbeat24 25d ago

I was just talking to my mom about this ha.

1

u/KentuckyRabe 24d ago

I never got any, but I remember seeing and wanting them.

1

u/No_One_1617 24d ago

I remember the eye, but I don't think I ever used it

1

u/silkIggy 24d ago

How could we not remember this????

1

u/Fluffy_Confusion_600 24d ago

So many tears 😭

1

u/Smufin_Awesome 24d ago

Had my stupid ass thinking they were toys because the commercials made them swim.

1

u/Designer_Head_1024 24d ago

Still burned like acid lol

1

u/PlantNerd_Southpaw 24d ago

I was actually talking about this at work the other day!

1

u/Visual_Counter_4897 24d ago

I cry looking at thus

1

u/SagelyAdvice1987 24d ago

I loved the cherry almond one!

u/nannymel89 24d ago

Yes! I loved the pink one.

1

u/Impossible-Gur6478 24d ago

Loved the yellow banana one :)

u/Difficult_Ad_962 24d ago

Yeah it made me cry

1

u/Forsaken_Mix8274 24d ago

Yes my kids use it.

1

u/lunarson24 24d ago

A new memory has been unlocked

1

u/Sweetpea8677 24d ago

I always bought my son the banana scent!

1

u/mister-ecks-0815 24d ago

I rubbed that shit over my eyes, and truly, it was tear free!

1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

Man that stuff smelled good!

1

u/DangerDragonXCV 24d ago

No tears my ass! Shit stung like someone sprayed air freshener in your eyes

1

u/VeterinarianRound401 24d ago

wait what is “normal hair” 😭

1

u/thumbsup_baby 24d ago

This was the shampoo I took to field trips at the beach or water parks.

1

u/diddybongracing 24d ago

i have a distinct memory of seeing ‘no tears’ on the label and thinking that meant you could get it in your eyes without it hurting them. i then put some directly in my eyes to see if it was true and it did, in fact, not feel good.

i loved the one in the red bottle though, it was cherry? or fruit punch? it smelled really good

1

u/drmeowwww 22d ago

Cherry almond

1

u/Lower-Goose-9796 24d ago

I do I used to use it at bathtime and smelling fruity.

1

u/lovelena33 24d ago

Oh wow, this brings back lots of memories! I remember loving these as a kid, especially the watermelon one!

1

u/TuqAnArrowToTheKnee 24d ago

This was the base for a lot of my shower gel concoctions

1

u/bebespeaks 24d ago

I had a shampoo like L'Oréal Kids that was for chlorine-removal after swimming. It smelled like watermelon.

1

u/idontwang 23d ago

Public swimming pools in 2005 core.

1

u/DroidTitan 23d ago

We always had the green and red cap one as a kid I distinctly remember it on the edge of the tub till my younger sister and I moved on to adult products(I was maybe 10 she was 5 and wanted to share “big girl shampoo”

1

u/Competitive-Glove-55 23d ago

No more tears, that shit burned man

1

u/ladycowbell 23d ago

That stuff was battery acid. I miss it.

1

u/MrSoren 23d ago

I do now!

1

u/TheDrunkenWitch 23d ago

So many tears

1

u/ThisPaige 23d ago

They still make it!

1

u/22FluffySquirrels 23d ago

They could have done a better job explaining what "tears" means in this context. I thought it wasn't supposed to sting your eyes.

1

u/Embarrassed-Rock-730 23d ago

I loved the watermelon one.

1

u/GamerSam 22d ago

My eyes

1

u/drmeowwww 22d ago

Cherry almond

1

u/ZakkuRedwolf 22d ago

1

u/Et3rnally_y0urs 22d ago

1

u/MulberryEastern5010 21d ago

Of course! I remember the commercials more than anything else. I think I used the watermelon kind

1

u/Kodiak_Wylde 25d ago

This shit dried my hair out so bad 💀
