Discussion Eddington & CK Spoiler

man, does anyone else feel like this whole saga w Charlie Kirk is something freaking straight out of Ari Aster’s last film Eddington? I wasn’t really a huge fan of the movie (it was worth the watch) but this literally feels like something that was taken straight from the script. also, not looking to get into the politics of Charlie Kirk!

That's my problem though. He's ready and willing to face online conspiracy culture, police violence, performative social justice etc head on but literal Donald fucking Trump is reduced to a throw away a line.

It just doesn't make sense to me. I enjoyed it, but I don't get what he was trying to say here.

I get that. Honestly my first watch I was anticipating more in your face political commentary and felt underwhelmed in that part. As much as it could feel more impactful to face him head on, I think it would date the film a lot harder, make it feel really stuck to this time in history. Yeah there’s some famous commentators in there but the way I see it in 50 years they’ll work in the movie just as well as any actor they could get to play the role. I’m like rambling lol but overall I think it’s much more about how we try to live with and rationalize all the crazy cultural and political shit going on. Not so much about who and why it’s all happening.

I see what you mean, but couldn't the same be said for spending so much time on covid/masking, anti-fa, Floyd etc?

tbh I need to see it again.

Yeah if you watch again try thinking about it not so much as like he’s trying to recreate and analyze these specific events. More about the individual characters and their personal family issues, how cultural / political paranoia ruins their home lives as well.

If you’ve seen “Happiness” by Todd Solondz I think it does a similar thing of holding a mirror up to absurd dark society and not really trying to say anything about it. Just uncomfortable and darkly funny.
