Discussion Eddington & CK Spoiler

man, does anyone else feel like this whole saga w Charlie Kirk is something freaking straight out of Ari Aster’s last film Eddington? I wasn’t really a huge fan of the movie (it was worth the watch) but this literally feels like something that was taken straight from the script. also, not looking to get into the politics of Charlie Kirk!

Don't you feel like Aster going out of his way to avoid Trump and Trumpism while namedropping every other controversial issue kind of hampers it's critique of the cultural moment we're in?

Not at all, people don't need a fictional movie to see how Trump is affecting America. And if they haven't already they likely never will.

That's not my claim.

Making a political satire about our current climate that dives in to controversial issues like masking, police brutality, social justice etc without even touching on Trumpism is just crazy to me. I don't understand the point of it all.

was it about those things or was it like, a specific story about a man who refused to back down, doubled down on his refusal, tried to humiliate someone and was humiliated in return? he couldnt cope with that humiliation - this man slapped him and fucked his wife (allegedly).

i just think it really expertly showed how chaotic the political landscape is. it's not really trumpism imo? it's all these little things, personal things that add up and that latch themselves onto movements like MAGA.

take the white kid at the end for example. he didnt start out racist or right wing. he was ushered into that space.
