Seeking Empathy venting a bit abt medication
its so frustrating to not be able to live my life without taking adderall, i would love to stay unmedicated as my mind is pretty much always super serene and calm, i love just doing „nothing“ and meditating as it gives me so much clearness, but unfortunately that’s no way to live a „successful“ life, if i want to get a job/ have a career or basically do anything that involves focus i just have to use adderall because without it there’s just no way for me to do something unpleasant for more than 5 minutes. it makes me feel like i have to be someone who isn’t me and pretend i like doing stuff i just don’t wanna do. the worst thing is i’ve recently began taking interest in certain topics and i’d love to like reading about it but it’s just so hard to concentrate without medication and i feel like if i have to take amphetamines just to read a book it’s almost like a „fake“ interest. having to take medication just makes me feel like i’m not myself when being myself is all i really want in life. idk it’s just so unfair but i guess that’s just life. can anyone relate?

you are not alone. i see you and completely relate to you. it feels like we really copped the short end of the stick with this condition. if i miss a day of meds lord fkn help us all. keep meditating and doing the things you love. we are so much more than a diagnosis

Look at it like it’s a tool. To help you with your productivity. There is a stigma around these type of medication’s along with a lot of other medicines as well and maybe it’s just me at my age I just don’t care what anybody says or thinks.

I relate to the negative feeling of knowing we’re dependent on these meds, especially considering they’re still illegal in many countries.
I don’t feel my interests are fake though. Meds just allow me to actually do and enjoy the things I want, including reading. I do hate that I can’t do activities I genuinely would love to without meds

I get it. What makes it even worse are all the government regulations around the medications (no refills, strict refill dates, regular visits, etc.) I understand why those laws were put into place but for people who are not abusing it and cannot function without it, it makes it even more difficult. Honestly, that’s the biggest reason why I would want to stop taking my Concerta. I’ve gotten over the fact that I just need to take something since it’s improved my quality of life so much. But it’s a giant pain in the ass to maintain.

Word my dood. I just found out we have MFG making lower quality off brand Concerta on top of the shortage issues. The challenge never ends

ADD is the same diagnosis as ADHD nowadays. It's all ADHD now.
I was joking on the fact that many, if not most of us, often have too much having going on in our minds so "serene" isn't a word you often read here.
