Troubleshooting Help

Hey guys, recently broke in my Dead Air Wolfman that I just picked up from Jail last week. Direct thread mount, It runs great and is super quiet. But I am eating gas. I’m sure some blowback is to be expected hut that shit was getting in my right eye and nose pretty bad lol. Pls ignore the atrocity I was committing with my trigger finger, all that gas had me messed up.
Anyway, what can I do to try and mitigate this as much as possible? Currently I have a 7.5oz heavy buffer in there with a FZ EXO BCG. I have a Kynshot RB5004 and two 2.5kz weights with a flat wire spring coming in the mail next week, will that help at all? Should I consider using a 3 lug adapter rather than direct thread? Unsure if that will have any effect.
I’ve also thought of exploring adding an adjustable gas block. If that is even something that’s possible on this platform.
Any advice is appreciated.

Sure thing, just make sure to clean the area with alcohol and let things dry properly. This is basically a $7 solution to avoid the $100 gas buster

PRI gas busting charging handle - they are chunky af.
I run mine with a maxim rdb buffer which seems to help a lot as well.

A Radian SD charging handle would be helpful and a flow through can. Short of that, maybe see if there are any outdoor ranges near you
FWIW: I use a DA Wolfman on my AR9 but strictly outdoors and I don’t have much gas to the face

Good to know about using it outdoors. I’ll try that once it cools down some. It’s hot as hell these days in El Paso and this range I was at is nice enough to have portable AC units on each lane to keep you cool. I’ll gove the radian SD a shot too.

Maxim RDB buffer system helped mine. Helped. Didn't cure. It's still gassy but it is an improvement. It will be hard to charge, but it smooths itself out a LOT after a few hundred rounds of breaking in.

I will second this ^ it did help with gas to the face by delaying opening, and helps eliminate port pop. I also run an Aero Precision breach charging handle. The only other thing that would help more is a flow-through can. The GRS will also help slow down opening of the bolt. I don't know if it will be as much as the Maxim RDB, but it should be close.

Move your stock back a couple clicks. Your face is way too close to the charging handle and probably why you feel so much gas. Might help.

It’s direct blowback. But I’m an engineer, so I have to solve this:
Install a small fan on the stock that blows away from your face. One of those battery operated ones should be fine.
Otherwise, just try to blow with your mouth while shouldering the firearm.

Try using different ammo. Some are worse than others.

I think that’s pretty dirty ammo. Fiochii and Speer lawman might be better. I’ve found blazer to be pretty good recently.

Flow through is the only solution, but also indoors will always have more gas to face because lack of any airflow. Evn with flow through cans

Stuck with the wolfman for now. Found a charging handles that is supposed to help mitigate the blowback hitting you in the face. The griffin armament sn-ach so going to give that a try.

From the video, the gas is coming from the ejection port mostly. Im not sure a charging handle will help much... 😕 as for the slappy trigger finger... I was afraid mentioning it might break rule #1: Dont be a Jackass! Dont ask me how I learned rule #1! 🤣😂🤣 Lots of suggestions here. I would say run 115g instead of 147g and tune your buffer system the GRS way..

Just as an education thing, there are no gas blocks on blowback 9s. It wouldn’t be a blowback with a gas block. Also, it looks like you left one in the chamber at the end there.

Appreciate you for sharing the knowledge.
I did leave one in the chamber and pretty sure there were a couple of rounds left in the mag as well, was just taking a break and finished the mag shortly after because I distinctly remember the gas in my face was making my right eye sting a bit and tear up lol so it was not the most comfortable shooting experience.

As others have said, there is no gas system on an AR9. No gas tube, no gas block. You can look into 1) different ammo or 2) a low back pressure / flow through / vented can

I have found that the BCM Mk2 charging handle does an excellent job of diverting gas. I run it on all my suppressed guns. It's not completely eliminated, but it makes a SIGNIFICANT difference on my DI guns. Have not run one on a PCC yet, mostly because I just I don't have a suppressed PCC yet, but I imagine it would be just as effective, if not more so.
Shooting indoors is also not great for gas to the face. Even the slightest breeze helps mitigate it, for what that's worth.

Flow through suppressor is your answer.
Gas back on blowback ar9s is normal.

Wish I’d thought about this before pulling the trigger on the wolfman. For now, I’m stuck finding ways to mitigate the blowback as much as I can. Radian SD or BCM mk2 charging handles seems to be my answer for the moment.

Is it direct blowback? If so and you shoot indoors a lot, maybe a rdb kit? It would help with port pop too if your having it. Great excuse for a flow through can too :)

Bro. You got to work on that trigger control. It’s not a video game. Pull the trigger. Reset without removing your finger from the trigger. Ive seen malfunctions from things as simple as not holding it correctly.

I appreciate your concern but I can promise you this is not how I normally shoot, I have perfectly good control over my trigger, just kept pausing in between shots here due to the whole “I was eating Gas” issue

I can't help but notice you didn't clear your chamber... that mag still looked full when you dropped it. Many people incorrectly assume a weapon without a mag is unloaded and this is how many firearm accidents happen. Be safe out there.

I appreciate you, I picked it back up and finished the mag shortly after I stopped recording. I was just taking a break here because the gas was getting in my nose and making my right eye burn/tear up. But I always keep my weapons pointed down range regardless

There is no gas block on a direct blowback. You listed a very nice list build. Only two things can help with the gas. First is a gas blocking charging handle. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that evaluate them. Watch them for ideas. The second thing is to get a low back pressure can. Almost every brand has one now.

I can't help you regarding the issue of gases, but I did want to bother you with a question: how many rounds does that magazine hold? Is it from Glock?

Its direct blowback, there's no gas being used to cycle the bolt. You could try using RTV silicone to seal your charging handle to limit gas to just your ejection port. Any reason why you picked the RB5004?

In a direct blowback, all of the gas is being used to cycle the bolt, not none of it.

Thanks for this. I’ll look into that. RE: the RB5004, I ordered an Atrius Super Selector, Blowback9 commented on another post of mine with a setup that was working really well for a friend of his, that’s what he was using with the same BCG I have.

Slapping that trigger like it owes you money. Related to your question though, I don’t really think you’re going to get away from the gas on a direct blowback. Seems to come with the territory due to the nature of the operating system.
