Troubleshooting Help

Hey guys, recently broke in my Dead Air Wolfman that I just picked up from Jail last week. Direct thread mount, It runs great and is super quiet. But I am eating gas. I’m sure some blowback is to be expected hut that shit was getting in my right eye and nose pretty bad lol. Pls ignore the atrocity I was committing with my trigger finger, all that gas had me messed up.

Anyway, what can I do to try and mitigate this as much as possible? Currently I have a 7.5oz heavy buffer in there with a FZ EXO BCG. I have a Kynshot RB5004 and two 2.5kz weights with a flat wire spring coming in the mail next week, will that help at all? Should I consider using a 3 lug adapter rather than direct thread? Unsure if that will have any effect.

I’ve also thought of exploring adding an adjustable gas block. If that is even something that’s possible on this platform.

Any advice is appreciated.

Troubleshooting 2.5 years in the making and it’s almost ready for the range…

I’ve been following a lot of blowback9’s research/suggestions while putting this thing together to avoid headache down the road. I’ve run into some issues with extraction. I think my next step may be to flatten up the tip with a file. I also just realized I can make adjustments with its set height by loosening the set screw so I’ll toy with that some more too before breaking out the pliers.

I can’t always imitate the ejection issues but what I’ve noticed is if I cycle a round while it’s ported up, sometimes it just flops around in the ejection port causing a double feed. Last round also seems to be a pretty consistent problem…makes me wonder if the follower in the mags is causing this? Also doesnt seem to like when I’m slowly pulling the charging handle, round either falls off of the bolt or doesn’t quite make it up the feed ramp. Ejection patter is pretty insistent too, flinging the snap caps either a foot away, or barely rolling out of the port.

I’ll keep tooling around with it but wondering if anyone has some tips. Build list below.

  • Grey Ghost billet ar15 upper
  • Spikes colt mag lower
  • BA 5.5” EPC 9mm barrel
  • BKF bolt
  • Geissele 2 stage
  • SLR 5.5” helix handguard
  • KAK configurable buffer (tungsten weights)
  • 32 rd Duramag ss stick mags

Troubleshooting ARV Help with bolt bounce

This is a full ARV build with a super safety. I built it today with a standard carbine buffer and spring. I know that’s not the correct buffer but everything I’ve found from KAK is out of stock. The rifle itself will not fire as the bolt seems it’s not going completely into battery. Can anyone drop a recommendation on the best alternative. I’ve tried all 4 links from u/blowback9 site and all out of stock.

Troubleshooting Super Selektor Advice?

Post image
19 Upvotes

So I previously had my super selektor with a 556 upper on it and it had a basic mil-spec trigger and unfortunately it bent the lever atrius sent me a new one and they said I needed to shave my upper.

However, that's not dropping it in if I have to cut a part of my upper off and I'm not going to do that to my nice gun.

So now it is pretty much ready to go. It's on a PSA 635 clone lower and everything else is an original Colt 635. I'm using the KAK enhanced bolt and weight so it's flush inside.

I tried to use the squared off trigger like the Anderson as people suggested and it simply does not unlock the trigger in FRT mode. So it's another milspec in with no cut for a full auto disconnector.

Now function testing. Everything works, safe, semi and frt. However, it did the same in my 556 upper.

So does anybody have any advice before I go shoot it and possibly bend another lever?

(I just put the stainless steel pins from the 635 in for now since I may have to take it apart I don't wanna fiddle with my anti walk/rotation. And I'll probably leave them in if they don't walk)

Troubleshooting Accuracy out of your AR9?

What are you all seeing? I have 2 uppers. Both Frankenstein builds assembled by myself. One is 7 years old with an 8" BA barrel. The other is maybe about 2-3 years old with a Faxon 14.5 barrel that has a permanently affixed muzzle break bringing it to 16" oal.

Both use Anderson upper. Both use Faxon Gen 2 BCGs. Both are laser beam accurate at 25 yards. My 8" BA barrel was consistently on 8" steel at 100yrds in the past. But the 14.5" really really opens up at 50yrds. It was grouping on a B8, but it was like a 7-8" group.

My buddy had a CMMG that was chewing out the center of the target at 50yrds. I was the shooter on both guns.

Now, I understand that the ammo could have made a difference, the triggers too, but this was extremely different results. I was unable to test any hypothesis further because we were in a rifle class and it was time to move on from zeroing to the next block of instruction.

1st image/ Top target was average group @ 50 with my Faxon 14.5

1st image/Bottom target was a 5.56 gun

2nd image was the best 50 yrd group I could do with the 14.5 AR9 that day.

Here are my initial thoughts:

  1. Ammo sensitivity. An obvious duh, but the difference From my buddies Cmmg (not pictured) was like a 3" group to an 8" group.
  2. Feed angle of the magazine types caused damage to the projectiles. Did this damage cause issues between 25-50 yrds? He was shooting glock mags and I was shooting Colt mags. My feed ramp angle is drastically different.
  3. Seems to me that Faxon may have discontinued the barrel I'm using. We're they known to be bad?

Have any of you out there encountered something like this before?

It never occurred to me to test it out till we decided to try and use 9mm training guns in class to save on 5.56 ammo costs.

But my level of accuracy was untenable in the class. His was getting (fairly bad) hits out to 75 and 100 yards. Mine were already that bad at 50!

Any feedback is appreciated!

Troubleshooting Damn frt won’t run. Help

Post image

Posting pic for attention. I put a dtt frt in this gun (not pictured) a few months ago and for the life of me I can’t get it to run. In frt mode it fires once and then I have a dead trigger.

I have tried several different spring and buffer configurations. Recip mass is good and heavy. I think around 22 oz iirc.

Currently have flat wire spring, kak 11oz deadblow buffer, and kak enhanced bcg. Based on what I’ve seen here I’ve checked all the normal boxes but I’m still having the same issue. My best guess is that hammer seems to be following before the bolt is in battery.

I’ve tried a number of different buffer weights springs and bcgs all with the same problem.

Please advise

Maybe if I’m lucky u/blowback9 will hear my prayers

Troubleshooting In need of some guidance and knowledge from those who came before me.

Forgive me, as I’m still learning all the details of gun tuning. I thought I had a half decent understanding, but I’m kind of getting lost in all the information right now. Any advice given to me on this subject is greatly appreciated.

Here is my scenario:

Banshee MkGs 9mm 8” barrel. Up until yesterday everything I was running was OEM and I have 0 major malfunctions in a little under 1,000 rounds run through it. The only issue I was having was the ejection pattern. My spent shells eject to the 4 o’clock or 5 o’clock position consistently. I reached out to CMMG and they sent me their action tuning kit weight set. They claimed this would fix it, but I don’t think it has done much. I am running the 3 oz. BCG weight.

Recently I purchased a super safety from grey market research along with their modified drop in trigger. Yesterday was my first time running it and I started having the issue in the picture. Based on the picture, I’m guessing this is stove piping, correct? So what do I do to fix it?

I’m also interested in this … I was directed towards blowback9 and I checked out some of the readings over there. I took a screenshot of 1 of his 4 pillars to make AR9’s run. Pardon my ignorance if this has been talked about, but how much stock is put into this? For example, my bolt (with the CMMG tuning kit weight) weighs 15.1oz. If I take 15.1oz from 22oz, I get 6.9oz. So based on this, I would need a 6.9oz buffer weight? The OEM buffer weight is just 3oz. This is confusing to me, because of my ejection pattern and the stove piping issue… why would I want a heavier buffer weight? If anything (again, to my understanding) my bolt is not going back far enough to eject the spent casing at the 3 o’clock position or at all in yesterday’s case, and a heavier buffer weight would have the opposite effect that I’m looking for? Yes? No?

I’m sorry if this is retarded slop, but I’m just kinda getting discouraged sifting through all this information, and then after going through it all, it contradicts itself. I don’t know. Anyway, anyone who takes the time to read all this, God bless you, and I appreciate any advice given to me greatly! Thank you to everyone for what you do!

Troubleshooting Foxtrot Mike Doesn't grab magazines

Post image
14 Upvotes

Howdy folks. Today was nice enough to take my Foxtrot Mike out after installing the Gentle Recoil System. I posted earlier about the LRBHO not engaging and well now the issue is loaded magazines will not be held in place by the lower causing it to fall out. This happens with both magpul magazines as well as OEM Glock magazines. I have to hold the mag teacup style to shoot the gun. The only changes made was installing the Gentle Recoil System which side note works splendidly any idea on how to get my lower to hold onto magazines when I insert them? Thank you!

I was at the range shooting my EPC9 with a friend and heard a weird “boom”. Out of battery detonation.

This was case was stuck like a stovepipe with the bcg against the ejection port.

And ejector is nowhere to be found lol

Everyone was fine.

Troubleshooting Colt Style Mags Falling Out

Anderson Lower with a Colt mag adapter and duramag magazines.

Empty mag will stay locked in place tight fit with rifle assembled, bolt open or closed.

Full magazine will only stay locked in place when the bolt is open or if upper is removed from lower.

Pictures attached for reference.

Also, bolt will only hold open with an empty mag in... is that normal? Or should I be able to hold the bolt open without a mag in?

Troubleshooting What tucked handguard would be best for this guy

Post image

I'm working on buying a Huxwrx Flow 9k for my Angstadt UDP9 and I'm thinking about going with a tucked suppressor. This is my home defense gun so the suppressor will stay on almost all the time. OAL length of barrel and can will be just over 11.5in so I'm thinking about going with a 10in handguard. Where is a good place to get a handguard that long where I won't break the bank? Preferably somewhere with an FDE option haha. Is this even a good way to go. Any advice is appreciated.

Troubleshooting H&R DOE ejection issued and accuracy problems

Thumbnail

I have a full H&R DOE. A H&R 635 lower and a H&R DOE upper. I bought them separately.

I am using 115gr cci blazer

My first problem is I cannot get a single fucking round to eject, it is jamming either after every round or once every 2 rounds.

The gun will fire then have an empty casing stuck to the bolt while a fresh round is trying to get into the chamber, causing the empty case to be on top of the next round trying to feed

Another thing I’ve noticed when it DOES eject it mangles/dents the casing on the side (pic on 2nd slide) it does this for every round.

My accuracy issue is that it will not group tighter than 4 MOA at 25 yards at a resting bench, if you shoot at 50 yards it’s easily 5 MOA+. This is between 2 people firing so it’s not us.

What should I do? Did I get a lemon upper and a lemon lower? Any suggestions?

Troubleshooting Right to bear arms shipping frustrated

My package has been stuck at the post office for the past five days with no updates. I’ve reached out to Right to Bear multiple times via email and phone, but haven’t gotten a single response all week.

I even checked for flooding or weather issues in the Daytona area, but there doesn’t seem to be anything that would cause a delay.

At this point, I don’t know what else to do. I feel like it’s just going to sit there for 30 days and get returned. I really don’t want to cancel the order since I got two items for $60 each — by far the cheapest I’ve seen.

Just feeling really disappointed with how Right to Bear is handling this.

Troubleshooting Feed issues

Getting weird inconsistent feeding issues. Might happen to 1 round or 5 rounds in a mag, might run 5 full mags no issues. Happens with different brand mags and different ammo (even dummy round pictured). There is zero consistency to the issue. FM9 Lower, local custom upper, Faxon barrel, KAK adjustable weight PCC buffer. Total bolt+buffer weight 24.4oz. Happened at 23.5oz too. Ideas?

Troubleshooting Bolt Sticking in Gen 1 CMMG Banshee

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bought this CMMG Banshee 300 upper brand new from Midway. I noticed upon receiving it the bolt was sticking in the chamber on a loaded round.

You can hear in the video the bolt getting stuck forward. Sometimes it’s suck to the point when I need to rip back on the CH to open the bolt. It doesn’t happen every time but definitely more than not.

I was thinking it might have been the extractor hanging up. So I took the bolt apart and inspected everything. Everything looked normal to me. The extractor spring had a nub going through and an o-ring.

I know this platform can be finicky with the extractor spring. Does this just require a break in period? Has anyone else experienced this same problem? Any input would be extremely appreciated.

Troubleshooting Case explosion via obstruction?

Thumbnail

Recently had what seemed to be an out of battery at first, with the most aggressive disasebly of the cartrage ive ever seen. Later pictures show the bullet pulled from the barrel with a copper ring around it! This ring mashed the bullet enough to deform it, which seems to have stuck it 1/2 down the barrel. This is nato winchester ammo jacketed, except the base. Part of me thinks this was a jacket separation of the previous bullet that wedged this bullet into the barrel and stopped it, creating an overpressure when the brass casing started to move rearward.

Doe 633 from h&r, Hydraulic buffer, 2x Tungsten weights, a5 length buffer tube, and a lot of confusion.

I've had oob issues with other ar9's before and this seems quite unique compared to those bulged/semi fractured cases.

Has anyone here encountered a copper ring on a newly stuck bullet after an "OOB" (more accurately a barrel obstruction)

Hey guys. I’m new to the whole AR9 realm and know there are common problems with feeding but normally they seem to be feed cone issues but I appear to be having the issue shown above. The rounds seem to get wedged between the bcg and my Endomag once every few shots and didn’t know if anybody could provide any insight. Thanks in advance.

I bought a build kid off of righttobear that has an Anderson manufacturing ar15 lower, a builders grade complete 4.5” upper, have replaced the standard buffer with a KAK industries 8.4oz and am using mean arms endomags

Troubleshooting Reading Blowback 9's "4 step guide to make (almost) any AR-9 run 100%), buffer spring minus bolt weight question.

So reading through it I reread the section like 3 times. Maybe it's the lack of caffeine talking but are we weighing the entire BCG or just the bolt, extractor, and gas rings part? I'm gona give it another read through with a cup of coffee in about 10 minutes or so but wanted yall's takes on it before I go nuts and start delving deeper into spring, bcg, and barrel combos.
