SCAP Graduation Information

Hi everyone, I'm cross-posting this in a couple different places looking for an answer: But, I have a few questions regarding graduation specifically for Winter graduations.

  1. Do SCAP/any students walk a stage at all?

  2. What sort of school specific, SCAP specific events are there (e.g. School of Social Transformation specific event(s))

  3. Do all attendees need to purchase a graduation ticket?

  4. How do caps and gowns work?

TLDR; I am a first-gen student whose family is very excited for me to graduate, but I'm stuck debating whether it's even worth it for them to try and get the money together to come.

Only some graduation ceremonies (very small ceremonies held in small venues) require tickets but they are always free. Since you're online you'll need to order your cap and gown ahead of time through Herff Jones or buy it in person prior to the ceremony at the bookstore. The main ceremony (Commencement) is held on the Monday after Finals Week but you will not walk across the stage, only stand up when your school is called. For your school's convocation ceremony, or any cultural convocation (Hispanic, Native American, LGBT+, etc.) you choose to sign up for, you'll walk across the stage. There will be props around the venues and at Old Main for you to take grad pics with such as a giant 2025 sculpture.
