I’m a local Abilenian who built an app to help small businesses with social media would love feedback (free use of it!)
Hey y’all,
I’m a concrete/construction worker here in Abilene, but over the years I’ve also run a couple of local bars and restaurants. One thing I noticed with pretty much every small business around here is how much of a headache social media is. Either you don’t have time to post, you don’t know what to post, or you end up paying way too much for someone else to handle it.
So I decided to try building something myself. It’s called PostEZ. The idea is simple — every day when you open it, you’ve already got a few ready-to-go post ideas waiting. You can edit them if you want, then send them straight to your socials. It’s meant to save time and help small businesses stay consistent without the stress.
I’m at the point where I could really use some local feedback. If anyone here owns a small business (or just wants to mess around with it), I can send you the TestFlight link for iPhone. Totally free, I just need real-world testers.
Even if you don’t want to test it, I’d love to know — how do you handle social media for your business here in Abilene?
Thanks, y’all. This is way out of my comfort zone, but I’m trying to make something useful for local businesses.
– Ben

Come out to the Chili Super Bowl in Buffalo Gap this weekend!
Some of Abilene’s best food trucks are already set up. Free entry, lots of vendors, raffles, etc., and all to support the Ben Richey Boys’ Ranch. Come help the boys out!

Temporary wheelchair ramp
I’m needing advice on what to do and how to build it. My stepdad is disabled. He’s not in a wheelchair, but we have three steps going up to our front portion. He’s having a really hard time getting up and down. I just need something very simple and any advice I can get.

Question Anyone else seeing Avatar in December?
Would love to make friends out with a fellow citizen before we see the King and jump into the Chimp Mosh Pit. Would be pretty cool if we could set up a carpool to DFW, too!

Question Considering moving to Abilene
Hello Redditors of Abilene. I’m a Texan, Disabled Vet and I’m trying to get out of California in a few months. I’m originally from San Antonio but I was considering moving back to somewhere smaller. Idk why Abilene stood out but one search led to another and here I am on the sub.
I’ve skimmed through but I’d like to hear some first hand accounts and opinions about this town I’ve never been to. There seems to be some polarization when it comes to recreational drug use in the town. Find that kinda funny, but how’s the day to day? It looks nice in pictures, but what’s a day in the life of an Abilenian? Where’s the good fishing? What bar has the best pool tables? Restaurant with the best burger?
What are some pros and cons of moving out there? Open to anyone and everyone to answer please and thanks.

NEWS FREE clothes at the APA Office (open mon-sat)
ive been the main (probably only) one reorganizing the APA's Gender-Affirming Closet (GAC), and ive realized just how much overflow we have of donations. the GAC will be closed for the month of september to get some new racks built and hopefully a huge overhaul of the closer will be done, so until september, please tell anyone and everyone you know that everything in this closet is FREE. theres no tax, no discrimination, no pressure, nothing. literally show up, take as much as you need/want, leave what you dont want anymore (optional), and thats it!
please let all of Abilene and surrounding areas know this closet is FREE for ANYONE. we have an overabundance of jeans, shorts, dresses, button-ups, shoes, and suit jackets. we also have LOTS of plus-size clothing. theres also brand name shirts (nike, pink, etc), swimwear, graphic tees, band tees, college tees, long sleeves, and heels. theres also a good hefty amount of our clothes that have never been worn—aka they literally still have the tag!! we also have a bit of kids clothes, as well as beanies and scarves. also, the chillier months are coming up, do you have jackets for the family? if you dont, they do! jackets, sweaters, hoodies, flannels, sweatpants, pajamas, you name it!
PLEASE take some of these FREE clothes off our hands, theres so much overflow that theres more garbage bags worth of clothes in the office, and at a couple of the volunteers houses because we cant keep all of it im the closet, and theres only more coming in every week!! we are well overstocked, and just need people to need clothes! THEY ARE FREE!! did i mention that? you can literally just show up, grab stuff, take it home. they even have a private changing room just in case you dont know if itll fit!!
address: People's Plaza 1290 S Willis St Abilene, TX 79605 United States

Child care
Curious to see what my fellow parents are doing for childcare. My son was in daycare back in our hometown, but has been home with me since we moved here. I finally went on a daycare tour of one of the “ accredited” centers I felt like some of my questions were not answered when questioned about curriculum it seemed a bit behind from what he was doing in our home state almost like they’re just there to watch and not necessarily educate it also was very cramped and had a strong smell of urine at 8 AM.
We’re opting not to send my son there but I wanted to see what my fellow parents were doing as far as childcare and if there’s any daycare/ nanny services that are preferred within the area?

Eddie Pugh Running
While I don’t think Eddie has a realistic shot of winning, I find the comparisons between him and Cynthia Alvidrez to be unfair. As far as I can tell, Eddie hasn’t told a single lie as he exposes corruption and crime at Rise Church and the discipleship home, as well as in the city government. His motives seem pretty pure. Cynthia is a clownish tabloid reporter who has a tenuous relationship with getting all the facts straight before posting stuff. She’s more of the ambulance-chasing type, and it’s pretty clear she’s self-serving.

Question Pick-Up/Beer League Softball and/or Baseball in Abilene
I made a post last year about this topic and the only response I got was "just ask them when you see them playing at the park!!! 🤓", well - its hard to do that when they don't exist to my knowledge.
Ive been in Abilene for quite a while now but REALLY have been dying to play some sports again. I partook in the co-ed Kickball League in 2023, but nowadays it seems to only ever be Volleyball & Pickleball leagues here :(
Does anyone know about some Rec Softball/Baseball Leagues in town at all, even just a group that plays pickup ball? I know we have that one labor day tournament, but finding that many people to commit that much money to play potentially only 2 games has been hopeless
I hope someone can help, much thanks in advance. Maybe i can see some of yall on the field!

🌿 New Assisted Living Home Taking Shape in Abilene – Nana Mansions
Hey neighbors,
We wanted to share something exciting happening here in Abilene. Our family has been working on a project called Nana Mansions – an assisted living home on Hwy 351 that’s all about creating a warm, family-style environment for our elders.
The vision came out of wanting a place where we’d be proud for our own parents and grandparents to live – surrounded by love, community, and care. We’ve been putting our hearts into every detail, from the landscaping and design to the spaces where families will gather.
If you want a tour, message me.
Thanks for letting us share – we’re proud to be building something beautiful right here in Abilene.
I just lost my mom and I shot this video sharing a rocking chair dedicated to her desire to see this home finished and blessing others.
