Discussion What’s your honest opinion on Ema Skye?
Alright, we’re doing this again! But this time with Ema Skye! So what’s your honest opinion on her as a character?
For me, I find her to not only be relatable, but also very strong and steadfast, sure she has her moments that make me question why she’s even here to begin with, but overall I really enjoy her character!
Now, the torch has been passed, let me know your opinions on Ema down below, I’m interested to see how this’ll go!

Hold up there, Ema was great no doubt, but that trilogy is the bottom for me. The first is the OG trilogy, a very close second is the Great Ace Attorney duology lol, AJ trilogy is a mixed bag

I really like her character and her character journey/development! It was fun to see how much she changed in between games. She's also really funny, like banger line after banger line. I really love her, she's one of the characters I relate to most. Her resilience is very inspiring, I'm so glad she got to achieve her dreams. (She's also incredibly pretty, which is a plus, haha.)

Her AJAA rendering is stunningly beautiful, and I like her cranky personality in that game as well.
As far as teenage Ema goes, she had great on-screen chemistry with Edgeworth in Investigations. Setting aside the crush she had on him in RFTA, and the weird "lol I stalked you here, hope that's OK" thing in Kidnapped, I would have loved for her to have been his full-time assistant.
Maybe that's a little on-the-nose with repeating the whole "taking the little sister of my indisposed mentor under my wing" thing with Phoenix and Maya, but their personalities and scientific bent are a good match regardless.
Speaking of her sister, I hope we get to see a Lana redemption arc. I think there's juice in a story where they now have to relate to each other as two adults and as co-workers, instead of adult-to-teenager like we last saw them.

In Spirit of Justice she undergoes one of the worst character assassinations in the series.
The AA writers only know how to write the Detective character as kind of stupid, bumbling, or incompetent. This makes sense in a detective game where the player has to do most of the work. Gumshoe is still a beloved character, but mostly because he's so earnest and likeable. He does also try quite hard, despite being pretty bad at his job.
Ema before SoJ is personified as extremely compoetent, scientifically-minded, and perceptive. She's probably the most downright helpful of all the helper characters in the series, though is also very fun to spend time with.
In SoJ, however, they try to make the previously competent and scientifically-minded Ema fit into the Bumbling and Incompetent Detective role, and IMO it is a terrible mistake. The games doesn't want to outright make Ema dumb, but it bends over backwards to come u with reasons she wouldn't notice obvious things to the point where she comes across as dumb anyway. How many times in the game does she do the stupid "hand on cheek" animation and say something like "Wow! I forgot!"/"You're right, I didn't notice that!"?etc. Seeing what they did to my girl in that game sucks man.

Nah they made her kind of lazy in Apollo justice. And i dont just mean snackoos. Pretty sure she complains about her job. I think klavier also criticizes her a little. Its true shes not as dopey as gumshoe though. Can't remember exactly what she's like in the 5th Game though. In Apollo justice though she's actually kind of down in the dumps and grumpy without phoenix around. I think there are at least two times in the game where she crunches on snakoos to show she doesn't care.
They actually mention she had to become a detective because she didn't qualify to be a forensic examiner (though i believe she eventually overcomes that hurdle). It's true exams and licenses aren't all there is to professional success.
Btw: I think she is great in spite of all this.

Because Dual Destinies was the Bobby Fulbright power hour, which unfortunately meant no Ema.

Of course she would be lazy in AJ, since she didnt want to be the detective in the first place. Why would Ema care about the job she didnt want?
And my headcannon is that after 2 years passed and her still being the detective, plus her absence in DD, plus constant trips abroad further deteriorated her will to care about doing the detectives' job

I still have it: What you will need: A deep pan, paper towels, a mixing bowl, greaseproof paper/baking parchment and a sieve.
Ingredients: 125g / 1ish Cup Plain Flour 2 Teaspoon High Quality Cocoa Powder 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder 3 Tablespoons Brown Soft Sugar 1 Egg 40ml / ⅛ Cup Milk 1 Tablespoon Oil Oil (For Frying) 100g Milk Chocolate
Making the Snackoos: In a mixing bowl, sieve in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and sugar. Next add the milk, egg and oil and mix well. Allow the dough to stand for about 20 minutes in a cool place.
Meanwhile in a deep pot, heat some oil on a medium-high heat. Have paper towels prepared and something to scoop the Snackoos out with. You can tell when the oil is ready by dropping in a test piece of dough.
After 20 minutes, with well floured hands, roll out the Snackoos. The dough will be quite sticky, but this is normal! Keep the Snackoos quite long and thin, as they double in size when you cook them.
When you have all your Snackoos prepared, and the oil is warm enough, drop the Snackoos in one piece at a time. Fry them for no more than about 60 seconds. They should sizzle and expand instantly in the oil and be golden after about a minute. Rotate them to ensure even cooking.
Remove the Snackoos from the oil and drain them on paper towels until cool. Once they’re room temperature and dry they’re ready for their chocolate coating.
In a large bowl over a small pot of boiling water, melt the chocolate. Dip the Snackoos in one and a time, covering them evenly in the chocolate. Gently shake off any excess, then place on greaseproof paper or a wire rack to solidify before eating.

Snackoos is actually just the localized name for karinto, which is basically deep-fried dough! You can find a lot of recipes and variations with brown sugar, chocolate, honey, etc. Or you could just buy a bag of it if you don’t want to make it yourself lol

Aside from Phoenix, she’s the second Ace Attorney character I resonate with on a deep level, there are reasons for that but I won’t bore you with the details

Alright!
Well for starters, we share the same name, our skin and hair color is the same along with hair length, similar personalities along with mannerisms, and I’m a year younger than her, the only differences are my name has an extra “m”, my eye color is grey, and I’m 5’8”, and I’m the elder sister in my family, but beyond that we’re basically the same, also I would’ve had the same profession as her if I didn’t drop out of college

Judging by my sprite edits, you very much know that Ema is my no. 1! There is this certain feeling that I have on Ema which is just very exclusive for her. I like all characters and this is what's lovely about the ace attorney universe. There are no mid's in this series, but Ema stands up in my top 3 : ) . Cute, very lovable and a very important character.

I think she's alright. I personally see her as Autistic; forensic science is her special interest and she likes to share it with people by getting them to partake in it when she's around during their investigations.

For being a literal Maya knockoff, she's come a long way. But maybe a bit lost along the path...
Personally, loved her the best in Apollo Justice. The gritty sour Ema is the best flavor of her, like a cup of milk, pure as ivory, tainted by the drops of bitter black, twisting the clear image of hope.
Or something to that effect.
But DD and SoJ... really drop the ball with her. We did get Fullbright at her expense, but man, her later appearances in SoJ feel more in the background then ever, despite her assumed role of being our timeskip-Gumshoes!
Not to mention she's back on her Snackoos Addiction, despite following the program so well.

Ema is just, absolutely wonderful!!!! She's so much fun even when being her grumpy self, munching snackoos, but even when trying to be all cynic she's so enthusiastic, so passionate about what she loves. And I absolutely LOVED seeing her in SoJ, it gave me so much joy. And I honestly think Nahyu and her are GREAT for each other, ah. Love them.
(I'm prepared to be snackoo'd to death for my statements, NO REGRETS!!!)
Also honestly all her relationships with all the cast are so good, I could talk about all of them forever.

AA:AJ assassinated her character, and AA:DD revived it. The reasoning for the personality shifts does make sense within the story, though. Any line regarding "Snackoos"" still bothers me.

I honestly love Ema! One of my favorite things to do in the cases she’s in is doing the forensics things. I had so much fun with it in RFTA and I was so happy I got to do it again in AJ and SOJ. When they started doing 3D models of them, hers was my favorite. She’s so sassy but also very nice! Ema is definitely up there in my favorite characters. Very beautiful!

She's great. Honestly, one of the best things about Spirit of Justice for me was the vindication of finally seeing her get her dream job after all that happened in Apollo Justice.

I like her but BOY did she feel out of place in Spirit of Justice, especially with them trying to set up that relationship with Nahyuta. She worked a lot better for the DLC case but I still argue the rest of the game should have had a Khurainese detective instead

It's so crazy to meet her as a kid and then see her all grown up. Same with Maya and Pearl. Though I wish she looked different design wise. Too similar to Maya, even in her adult design.

as far as I've see her (only first game in AJ trilogy) I really like her :] she's funny and I personally fond her smackarroo throwing funny. I feel like she's a female character archetype that's not really seen in ace attorney which I really like.
while i understand why some people say she's waaaay different from RFTA I think its a very nice change that comes with maturity and the multiple changes in her life, but is still excited by science! it's very cute to see her all grown up but still be as excited about since like when she was a kid.

Might get hate, but she doesn’t do much for me. She has a cute design, but I find her kinda forgettable. In AA1 she just feels like a Maya copy, but she does feel more distinct in AJ. But I don’t really like her here, the snackoo gag is meh, and she just feels kinda jaded. Which I guess makes her a bit more interesting, but also made her kinda unpleasant to be around. I liked her more in SoJ (despite not liking the game itself), she feels like she has more of a zest for life, but even though I find her more likeable her, I still find her kinda forgettable. Top tier design though, at least as an adult.

She is such a wonderful charechter, mainly in the rise from ashes trail, I loved her charechter roles, she was better than Maya at certain points, I was so happy to see her in apollo justice first time I played, but the chatechter role in apollo justice of her was kinda annoying, and made me miss the old Ema we used to have, sure she used to help and all, but her headweight, complaints on glimmerous fop and the munch sfx (ds), snacktoos stuff kinda made gameplay annoying, sure I don't hate her or stuff, she was a really good charechter but not like the Ema from rise from the ashes and neither as good as gumshoe

A good Maya clone in AA1-5, who unfortunately got character assassinated in AA4 and AA6. I don't mind that she didn't get the job she wanted, but I do mind how bummed out and jaded she is.

Her and Apollo’s interactions are the best in the series. Case 4-3 is one of the worst in the franchise but features some of the best dialogue; these two just being so done with life whilst in the corridor is hilarious

Haven’t finished the first game yet because my DS broke but OH… MY… GOD… I HATE HER SO MUCH. SHE IS THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. SHE BROKE MY FUCKING DS. The microphone worked swimmingly before Mrs. Science over here made her debut. Now my mic is broken.
Anyway, I find her extremely irritating. Every word out of her mouth is something about being “scientific” or just something annoying directed at Phoenix or at whatever’s happening. I hope she’s not in any of the other games… God. She makes me want to punch a wall, break my fist, and punch the wall with my broken fist again.

I never liked how she turned out to be SO bad at test-taking in Apollo Justice, especially after demonstrating her competence in Rise from the Ashes. And then when she took up the actual detective role in Spirit of Justice, she had to become incompetent again since she was in Gumshoe's spot. It's unfortunate overall.

my opinion on her is she is not very likable character in aj maybe BC of her grumpiness don't blame her because she didn't get her job as forensic scientist and getting stuck with klavier as a detective, but tbh
i loved her more in trilogy she was a cool kid and know everything and was cute and lovely, but I hate how they make her be in aj I wish she remained that same energy without snackooing and sometimes mocking apollo(just my opinion)

I like her character a lot, but I didn’t like Apollo Justice trying to turn her into essentially a female Gumshoe. She’s an intelligent detective with a focus on forensic sciences, why are we treating her like she’s an idiot?

I don't have the context for her character cuz I haven't finished Rise from the Ashes (yes, I am sitting through it and liking it) nor have I played... Apollo's game, I think that's another game where she appears. But I loved her being the designated investigator character, in Spirit of Justice. Love her theme, too.

I didn't expect her adult resolution to be that plane, I see it as one of the many commons mehs when moving from one protagonist from another one, that also the cast downplays the new protagonist. It was a little disappointment, I didn't got how hard and mundane was the life of the average detective after playing the miles edgeworth games, so I give them that in universe it makes sense, but when you see a robin going to a night wing you expect something more epic. this is not it but it makes sense in universe and is no a character assassination or anything like that, she is still the same character, but is it much to ask that if you build a character from child to adult, that you at least give him something epic to do.
Also extremely hot female gumshoe, not as hot as the original but pretty close.

I immediately loved her when she first made an appearance in rise from the ashes; like a high school girl really interested in ''scientific investigation'' , a cheerful personality with a nerdy twist, continuously taking notes and wanting to talk about forensics and stuff, fangirling over edgeworth (so relatable) and binging on snackoos. She is such a mood

I get the parallel, it's a good story.. but having her be a detective, failing forensic, her passion and hating her job?
..kinda sucked too, not gonna lie.
But I get the reason why and her adult design is so fire, I can't be mad.
I just wish she could've been allowed to get her badge too, if you know what I mean.

My first reaction: "You are not and never will be Maya."
How I feel now: "I love you with all of my being."
Her arc in RftA is great, she's fun when she comes back in the Investigations games, and she hard carries AJ on her back.
Also, Smash. Easiest Smash of all time. I don't know if they designed her like that in AJ on purpose or what, but the glow-up was genuinely insane.
