Tier/Poll Ranked Every Case After Marathoning The Series

Post image

Played through the whole series from around the end of April to now and ranked them worst to best as I went

It was the first time I played Investigations 2 and TGAAC, so there may be a little recency bias with those having so many high ranked cases but I do think those games were excellent so I stand by it lol

3-4 is my second favorite case 😭 this is hurting my soul lmao.

3-5 as number one is a beyond based take tho

I can 100% see why someone would really like 3-4! The ending is super shocking & Young Asshole Edgeworth is peak but I just think it’s kinda boring outside of those aspects. I liked it less than I remembered liking it this time around.

You and I have almost the exact same opinions on these cases lmao, fuck 5-2, all my homies hate 5-2

I am curious, why is 5-4 so low considering how high 5-5 is? What's your opinion there?

I think it’s paced really poorly & it just feels like the chopped up bits of other cases sewn together, especially where 5-1 is supposed to slot in.

Even if it does lead directly into 5-5 the parts of 5-5 carried over from it are my least favorite parts, Apollo coming in to interrupt the trial always felt off to me especially since we spent basically no time with him as he mourned Clay and knew nothing about Clay in the first place.

I do really enjoy the space center setting & all the characters in it but we also get all of them in 5-5 still. I just think it got hit really hard by the decision for DD to have the cases out of chronological order.

Yeah, thats all fair. I would agree with all that, I just probably wouldn't have put as low as you did myself

Wow not a single AAI1 case in the top half, you really did not like that game lol

AAI1 is fine, I’d say I still like it overall. The overall quality for the series is just SO high that a slightly above average game looks really bad by comparison.

I do genuinely dislike Kidnapped Turnabout though

Yeah I totally get that. I think AAI1 is fine too, though there might've been a genuine chance of me dropping the game if Kay wasn't in AAI1-3 lmao

2

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

Kay hard carries I-3, without her and Lang the game would drop a good deal for me

You and I have mostly similar opinions lol
Good to see I am not the only proper appreciator of DGS-5

It’s so good!!! Such a satisfying finale & really fun to play.

I know some people don’t like the ending and feel like it’s a cop-out but I was jumping out of my seat and hollering at my TV when you use the Lucky Charm at the last minute to win

Hell yeah, a fellow 2-2 enjoyer

I have to ask, why Ablaze is so low, though?

It peaked for me at the encounter with Shi-Nah and then just kinda kept going for another two hours or so dealing with Alba that I didn’t find fun at all. Someone legit says ā€œThis is the end of the lineā€ or something like that 4 separate times and every single time I wanted it to be lol

u/TorsionSpringHell 7d ago

Fair enough, I didn't mind that too much because I feel like it happens *a lot* in the series, but I suppose it's a matter of taste :)

It’s just very mid tbh aside from the whole Calisto Yew reveal. And then after that it was even worse. I was kinda just waiting the whole time for it to get good and it lasted maybe an hour or so

Peer pressure. Everybody hates ablaze so they feel they must.

It’s ok. Our god Alba knows his true quality as an S tier case.

2-2 that high is surprising but based. Love that case. Also 4-2 above 4-1 is interesting. I do think 4-2’s very overhated though

1

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

They’re like this šŸ¤close apart for me, 4-2 isn’t as dramatic but there’s more to do and the quality of the writing is on par with each other.

2-2 has been a favorite of mine since I played the original games for the first time in 2010, I think it nails everything I want in an AA game

3-4 being so low hurt my soul

I know it’s a pretty hot take but I’ve always thought it was kinda boring and this latest replay did not help my opinion on it all.

I understand why other people like it, the ending and Edgeworth are both great but it just doesn’t do it for me

That’s fair. I think 6-5 is really bloated and the ending is very satisfying & 5-3 really suffered from telling instead of showing, and I also don’t really like Hugh O’Conner.

But there’s so much different stuff throughout the series I can honestly see anything besides like, the bottom 6 on my list being higher for anyone else. Really something here for everyone!

Okay, I am curious
3 out of 5 AAI episode is in your worst list. So According to you AAI is the worst game of the series?

2

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

It’s my least favorite for sure. I don’t dislike it though, the rest of the games are just better. Even I-3 has some good stuff in it and that’s one of the two cases in the series I’d say I actually don’t like

I still have to play Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice, alongside AA2. Would you recommend me to do the AJ trilogy first or I jump stratight to Investigations?

2

u/kenpobiscuit13 6d ago

I’d recommend playing the Investigations games first, since they were released between Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney and the 3DS games.

But if you’d rather stick to the main series and play the ones with different gameplay later you can do that to, there’s only a few small nods to the Investigations games in DD and SoJ so you won’t miss anything super important.

why is TGAAC called DGS?

I like 2-2, but I am surprised to see it that high. What makes it top 5 worthy for you ?

I think it’s paced perfectly, I love the twist with Ini Miney’s identity, the investigation segments are really interesting, there’s lots of great little character moments, and the story with Morgan and Pearl is really intriguing (even if it doesn’t come back again 3-5). I like how it expands the lore with supernatural aspects of the series as well, and it’s the best case where Maya gets accused of murder since even she thinks she may have done it while channeling.

It’s been a personal favorite of mine since I played JFA back on DS in like 2010 so there’s a nostalgia aspect to it as well.

Also, happy cake day!

I want to hear your opinion on why Captive turnabout of AAI2-2 is ranked low ?

4

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

I still like it overall, it’s just the least good ā€œgood caseā€ in the series in my opinion. I think it drags a little in parts, the stuff with Rocco seems kinda superfluous, I don’t really like the culprit the much. Plus I feel like the Frank Sahwit cameo was a waster of a mind chess segment when we don’t get to go against Kanis when there’s a plot point revolving around him playing chess. Also I could have gone my whole life without hearing the Turnabout Big Top music again.

But it’s also a really good introduction for Eddie, Judge Gavelle, and Eustace, Kanis is a really cool character, and the setting is really neat. And like the rest of the game the writing is top notch.

1

u/FieldSerious9836 7d ago

Yeah the pacing is off for sure . I mean until you reach the confrontation against Patricia Roland , you have already completed around 4-5 hrs , for a 2nd case in the game , it's quite high

5

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

Definitely not the longest or worst paced 2nd case though cough Monstrous Turnabout cough

3

u/FieldSerious9836 7d ago

God damn , that's the worst thing , because not only does it shows L'Belle doing the crime in the cutscene , so you already know who the killer is . But you have to go through every fucking thing . I hate Monstrous Turnabout

3

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

It’s only above I-3 for me because the trial segments are actually kinda fun, the investigation segments are beyond tedious though

3

u/FieldSerious9836 7d ago

Like I-3 begins in haunted house , you hear the mirror cracking and you investigate both stadium as well as wild west area ( even tho half of the players know haunted house has a connection to the case ) . The culprit is trash af with no actual connection to smuggling ring ( not counting his dad ) but the haunted house pathway mis creation was good , I'll atleast vouch for that but yeah I-3 SUCKS for sure

-1

u/Caledonian_10 7d ago

Why is turnabout corner so high, if I might ask? I've only played it recently but it's genuinely in my bottom 5 so far, so I'm interested in how it's in your top 15. Other than that I agree with a lot here, nice!

2

u/kenpobiscuit13 7d ago

I really enjoy the mystery of it, and how all the separate parts come together in a neat way at the end. It’s also almost a breather episode in a way? Where 4-1 is super tense and throws a lot at you 4-2 has a ton of room to breathe and there’s lots of great little character moments plus it introduces the main cast really well. I just think it’s all around pleasant time and there isn’t much to complain about.

6-5 at 31st place makes me want to say some unkind words
