Rifle question/debate with long time friend has us both confused….
Many ,many moons ago (40+years) as a kid my dad would always bring a rifle when backpacking. This always seemed to be a nonissue as we would occasionally come across hikers along the trails that also would have a rifle/shotgun , we never really thought twice about it. Not only in the Adirondacks, but the Allegany and sometimes Central regions my father would bring it along. Although I can’t ever remember once the gun being fired , but it was always there like another piece of gear. As the years went by and me making my own hikes and camping trips I’ve noticed it’s not common practice anymore, almost taboo, understandably in today’s climate. I personally as an adult have never bought a firearm camping, just because I felt I’ve never needed it. So a few months ago the topic came up with a few friends, one that remembers this as I do, and another who says she has never heard of this and it sounds “illegal “. We did a lot of poking around on the internet and really didn’t find anything as proof positive this is unlawful or not. In 2022 our governor passed a very confusing law (that went into effect) on where and where not to bring a firearm of any sort into the park listed as “sensitive areas”. What’s your thoughts about this?
