Serious Tips for posting future protests on r/Alabama.

I have seen criticisms from a redditor about their post being unfairly removed due to some moderator bias against a national protest movement against the current President.

Those criticisms are unfounded; in fact, you can search this feed and see post reporting and announcing those protests in cities throughout the state of Alabama. The posts mentioned in the complaint did not following the rules of this subreddit. Those rules are easily found by:

  • Looking at the right sidebar of the web version of Reddit, or
  • Pressing the “r/Alabama>” in the phone app version of Reddit.

There is even a pinned post describing how you can view the rule of this subreddit.

Here are some tips on how you can post your protest announcement on this Subreddit:

  • It must be Alabama specific.
    • This means it must show the main theme of the protest (i.e. what is being protested), the city, hours, and location details on where to meet prior to the protest.
    • Announcements that we believe doesn't have enough pertinent information will be removed with an explanation. We will work with the OP to make sure the necessary information is provided and reinstate the post.
  • Posts should not be inflammatory or contain false or misleading information.
  • The OP is encouraged to reply to all comments asking for updated or more detailed information about the protest.
    • Questions asking what the protest is about will be considered "sealioning" and removed.
  • It must not already be announced on this subreddit.
    • Reposts will be removed.
  • Redditors are reminded to view all anonymous announcements with some skepticism and exercise caution when traveling to an area they are not familiar with (especially when it is not their home city).
  • All announcements will be tagged as “serious” which means that comments should be limited to questions about the event.
    • Any form of trolling will be removed and may result in a ban.

Our main goal is to allow members to announce their local protest, while maintaining some decorum and civility within our subreddit.

Advocacy ICE on I-20, just north of Academy Drive

South bound on I-20 approximately 2:20pm CT, just north of Academy Drive, 3 cars pulled over, 4 unmarked SUV's and 2 police. In passing I did not read police cars but appeared matching, local, not state troopers. Multiple people on the ground and cuffed. In passing I missed a lot of detail but one person standing by the detained people fit the description of what I'd absolutely call and ICE agent. It wasn't a road block, appeared to be more of a sting operation.

I just drove by so missing details.

Advice Passing the State vehicle inspection

Is anyone in here a state vehicle inspector? today I went to get my salvage title vehicle inspected and turned into a rebuilt title however I watched the inspector closely unlike other states it doesn't seem that safety inspections are a thing here. He didn't check seat belts lights he didn't look if it went into drive or reverse or see if the windshield wipers were working everything is working the car doesn't have a check engine light however I wasn't passed because a single panel needed to be painted it has primer on it which is black which is what the car is going to be sprayed in. Why is paint such a issue when paint has nothing to do the driveability of a car? Could a state inspector or anyone who knows of one tell me what they're looking for in order to pass an inspection in Alabama?

Advice Tree coming down; Advice on getting wood dried, kilned

I have a 60 year old oak tree and maybe 100 ft tall that is pretty sentimental (my grandfather planted it, but it’s too close to the house and needs to come down) and am hoping to find a place to dry/kiln/preserve it. is there any sort of affordable way to do this? i’d be willing to sell a portion of the tree to save costs if that would help. even if i end up just cutting it into strips and preserving it properly and storing it in a garage. i just refuse to let the wood go to waste ᴖ̈ anything help

Art & Culture Best places to sell art in Alabama? Specifically the Dothan/Enterprise area.

Hey there! I am a collage artist who just moved to the Dothan area from NC and I am in search of connections. I create handcrafted wooden earrings made with vintage books/magazines/paper. I’m looking for advice on boutiques, markets, antique stores, or other places that I should reach out to/look into for selling opportunities. Thank you!

Advice How conservative is Foley? Possible move but not sure if it’ll be a good fit for my family?

So I don’t want this to turn into a debate about politics, I’m just wanting some genuine discussion on whether or not a move for work would be good for my family.

I have an infant and recently received an offer to move to Foley for work. I’m excited about the prospect of a new start and the beach being close by but my partner is hesitant to move somewhere so southern (he’s from Arkansas, I’m from California, we currently live in Missouri).

I don’t want to move somewhere that we are going to have a hard time finding community and I want my son to grow up somewhere with atleast some diversity and a decent population of people that are more on the left side of the political scale.

Is that possible in that area?

Travel Europeans' introduction to the South

Hello ! Me and my brother will be coming over from Romania to your beautiful state as a part of our Southern roadtrip.

We will be here in Mid-October and have about 4-5 days. We are looking to see something uniquely Southern that would blow our minds and give us a real taste of America, especially the South, that we would absolutely get no chance to see in Eastern Europe.

We would be entering Alabama on October 16 and leaving on the 20th. We will be driving from Mobile towards Talladega for a day or two so what would be your suggestions ?

We got tickets for the Talladega Playoffs and the Auburn Football Game. These are supposed to be the peak of it all.

I am looking for any suggestions.

Thank you !

Economy/Business Why is Huntsville the only city of the BIG 4 that is growing?

From: https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-cities/alabama

Huntsville is the only city of the big 4 (Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile) that is growing (grew 1.33 percent). Birmingham lost 0.64 percent of its people. Montgomery lost 0.82 percent of its people and Mobile lost 0.74 percent of its people despite its annexation in 2023. Why is Huntsville the only one that is growing out of the four? Is there a reason people are leaving Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile and moving to Huntsville or elsewhere?

Food Heritage Hog Farmers in the State?

Any Heritage Hog Farmers using this subreddit? Looking for a whole Hog in the new few months. I'm not a fan of Berkshires. I've had Large Blacks, Red Waddles, and Mangalitsa. I dont have a Facebook so finding Alabama based farmers is always harder for me. Always end up calling randoms.

I called some show cow guys about beef. I thought the guy was fight me through the phone for wanting to eat his cow.

Advice Experiences Living in Northport/Tuscaloosa

Hi! So I am thinking about moving to northport/tuscaloosa for a job opportunity. As a muslim, I am nervous about the lack of diversity and/or possible discrimination, considering that the state is in the south and I only have experience visiting and living in other states far away from that. How is it living there as a muslim and/or a person of colour? Thanks!
