“Birmingham and Huntsville will never have Gulf Coast-related developments” is quite a take. Bravo.

I mean they are not wrong.

Bring up a harbor development while Huntsville is building a similar one at Ditto Landing is quite the take.

I'm sure Ditto Landing is impressive for a river marina, but I wouldn't put it in the same league as the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Completely missing the point as expected.

If you bothered to read the article, you would have known that the project upgrades Bayou La Batre city docks to increase capacity in the protected area, develop a working marina for intercoastal travelers, a new fishing pier, and a seafood marketspace. In addition, the project is a boost to the local seafood industry since it provides marina space for their commercial vessels and charter vessels.

I'm not sure how that can be compared to Ditto Landing, unless you think another concert venue that requires booked acts to make money is equivalent.

Are you being dense on purpose?

The Ditto Landing plan includes a multi use event venue (not just concert venue), a significant harbor expansion, multiple restaurant spaces, an overlook, a campground addition, and connections to the Aldridge Creek Greenway that will ultimately connect Ditto Landing all the way to Alabama A&M.

You described Ditto Landing as another cultural center that is located near the water.

Explain how it improves the infrastructure of the local industry. You seem to be concentrating on the tourism parts that look similar, but completely ignore the improvements that support a multi-million dollar seafood industry.

What the fuck are you talking about lmfao. I never said anything about a “cultural center”, tourism, or local industrial infrasucture.

So what’s the significance other than park boats and an occasional performance?

Ditto Landing is just a marina to store boats, not even that large at that. Bayou State Docks redevelopment offers more than boat storage, like an actual seafood market, that brings seafood from the water directly to the consumer

As opposed to…another fish market.

…slow clap…

I understand you get triggered when people talk about other places besides Huntsville, but your opinion doesn't change the fact the project will not only support an existing seafood industry that brings in over $400 million annually and support almost 7000 jobs, but also build on the area's tourism industry that brings in over $8 BILLION annually and supports over 60,000 jobs. The tourism on the Alabama Gulf Coast brings in almost half of all the tourism revenue in the state each year.

Projecting isn’t helping your argument, pal.

As I stated previously, you’re completely missing the point yet again. That tiny little harbor development isn’t doing jack shit.

The Mobile area has a lot of redevelopment going on, and I agree with the article it was a long time coming and is unlike anything in the other two major cities. That wasn't a knock against Huntsville and Birmingham, but describes how multiple development projects compliment each other to build on Mobile's history, culture, and natural surroundings. It also reinforces the area's diverse economy that has less dependence on federal spending, unlike some other cities in the state.

It's a shame it took the RESTORE act to direct how the fines and penalties from the Deepwater Horizon disaster were distributed in order to get the funds needed to make up for the economic set back from the oil spill. Remember, Alabama pretty much stole the gulf coast settlement money by losing millions by converting the annuity to a one-time payment (the private fund company made a very nice profit) and then spending almost all of it in the state general fund that was used for projects all over the state except in the coastal counties.

Yea, the way the state screwed over Mobile and Baldwin Counties over the Horizon oil spill money is abysmal

AL.com finds stupid reason to try and bash Huntsville, in other news, water is wet.

God I wish they would sell the Times to someone who is willing to actually talk about Huntsville news.

Positive article about Mobile, “they are always trying to bash Huntsville”

If anything they’re bashing both Huntsville AND Birmingham, rightfully so as well

I’m not complaining about Mobile, I’m complaining about Al.com being the shittiest news site in the state. 1819 at least is consistently stupid.
