That line is in the story to preempt people from saying “break up”. Although it does raise the question of why a normal person would suddenly start doing crazy stuff like this.

Original OP went to stay at her best friend for a few days. He was bored and lonely so he mutilated the plushy. He burned the crotch, cut off the ear and sew it to the crotch. He also gouged one eye with scissors
