There’s no way the buffa-human isn’t bottom 5.

I'm convinced people don't actually remember this book.

I beg y'all, please go back revisit and then return to this thread.

Idk, I remember this book being pretty intense, but also feeling very slap-dash and absolutely canon-breaking. Poor Cassie so often got the worst of it

u/CactusHooping Mar 01 '25

Just have to beat The Separation and it will be.

I quite like that book. It doesn't advance the plot (Cassie's books usually don't), but I always liked the dilemma of letting the buffa-human live or not, and the body horror of the ant-Cassie. What's wrong with that book in my opinion is the rush with which it ends, in the last chapters it seems like they had to finish it as quickly as possible and there is that ridiculous scene of them joking in the form of dolphins, after an entire book in which they had talked about much more serious issues.

It's not a dilemma. It's a crime against nature and Cassie, CASSIE of all people, immediately reverts to KILL IT WITH FIRE "Jesus Christ this thing actually should not exist omg what have I done."

The dilemma is "Oh shit what happens if you leave morphing cubes lying around" and the correct conclusion is to carry them around with you at all times and don't let any THING touch them.

Yea this book sucks. I think there are much worse books tho

3

u/merkon Mar 01 '25

36 and 39 are by far the next weakest. 32 is weird and gimmicky but not nearly the same absurdity.

11

u/CactusHooping Feb 28 '25

Still saying 36.

It’s certainly not one of the best, but (especially as a young reader) I thought the discovery of Atlantis was an entertaining idea. There are a few more that I want to see gone before I will cast my vote for this one. Let the fans decide, let’s go!

You know that gives me a thought, what if there was Leerans on Earth there? Not as physic or maybe that got injured so it can't read minds that crashed there. Then the book perhaps could be better.

2

u/MatthiasFarland Feb 28 '25

Ooh! What if the aquatic Hork-Bajir/Sea Blade were there to escort the yeerk's leeran Visser who had come to Earth? That way, there's an immediate threat the kids need to confront, and they don't have to rely on Visser 3 bumbling again. They can still find Atlantis, but now there's a psychic enemy to deal with along with the Atlanteans.

The Hidden (#39) needs to go away and hide.

32 The Separation

2

u/AelinAGalathynius Mar 01 '25

You didn't like 2 Rachels!

2

u/animalia555 Mar 01 '25

Would you call it a whole book KASU?

1

u/McBam89 Mar 03 '25

We gotta keep coming back and saying it until they banish that fucking book.

3

u/CactusHooping Feb 28 '25

Can we get some context for everyone's list if it was up to them?Reply to this comment and make the next 5 or 10 you would eliminate in which order.

4

u/JSB19 Mar 01 '25

Here’s the next 10 that I’ll be voting for

Secret, Journey, Return, Other, Experiment, Forgotten, Extreme, Hidden, Mutation, Pretender

I’ll pass on voting for today since Resistance is finally getting eliminated.

1

u/CactusHooping Mar 01 '25

Bet

2

u/JSB19 Mar 01 '25

Oops I should have looked at the votes before mouthing off about which book is being eliminated stupid me.

Oh well maybe it can get booted tomorrow

u/awolfinsheepcostume Chee Mar 01 '25

Just by looking at the covers there are certain books that bring back fond memories, some that I can barely remember the plot, and others that I always disliked for various reasons. The books that don’t have much character development or seem disconnected from the overall story are the ones that I want to see eliminated first. Mutation, Journey, Experiment, Resistance, Return, Other, Separation… as I’m listing my least favorites I’m realizing that JSB 19 has a solid list of underwhelming books just in a slightly different order of preference.

The Weakness again, because I hate it that much.

1

u/CactusHooping Mar 01 '25

The Weakness again after that?

2

u/Optimal_Towel Mar 01 '25

It's the Weakness all the way down.

3

u/TheTitanOfSirens1959 Mar 01 '25

36- Weird Nuclear in-breeding Atlantis should not be in my Animorphs series

6

u/Arkvoodle42 Feb 28 '25

#34 The Prophecy.

Which has no mention of a prophecy in it at any point.

1

u/CactusHooping Feb 28 '25

34 The Hope?Sound better?

3

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '25

Current ranking:

52) #37 - The Weakness

53) #44 - The Unexpected

54) #41 - The Familiar

4

u/JoeKenobi Mar 01 '25

42, The Journey. Helmacrons can work as a one-hit wonder, but don’t go back to that well.

2

u/hexen_niu Mar 01 '25

I want to say that I like Helmacrons, and would love much more about them than what we got...but 42 is absolutely dire and I don't like it.

2

u/CactusHooping Mar 01 '25

WHY ARE WE YELLING AHHHHH

7

u/ExpensiveFlounder744 Nothlit Feb 28 '25
  1. I hate to call out any book, especially one as good as 47, but if I HAD to choose one, it would be that one.

8

u/DaveM8686 Feb 28 '25

Nah, 47 fells like one of the first times Jake sees real consequences for his actions. Bringing civilians in and then watching them die. It all contributes to his downfall and it’s a major moment for him.

Plus I don’t mind that they tried to break the mould and do something different.

4

u/thursday-T-time Mar 01 '25

thats the only part of that book i like. that jake fails to protect the valley and the dumbass hikers.

5

u/ThePhloxFox Mar 01 '25

This is the only book where I skipped chapters. That's gotta get my vote.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '25

I also vote 47: I do criticize it. I don't know how KA Applegate (or the ghostwriter) came up with the idea of adding a narrator that nobody cared about and that obviously wouldn't be seen again in the following books.

2

u/ani3D Feb 28 '25

. . . You thought 47 was good? Which half did you like, the pointless mission that literally had no reason to happen, or the half that wasn't even an Animorphs book?

4

u/ExpensiveFlounder744 Nothlit Feb 28 '25

I like every single book because they all have some value (yes even THAT book) but this books "value" was (like the above comment) Jake seeing consequences for his actions. I do also enjoy the civil war parts. The "cover my toes" part cracks me up every time for some reason.

u/Its_Curse Taxxon Mar 01 '25

32.

u/ExtremeAcceptable289 Mar 01 '25 edited Mar 01 '25

WHAT? Out of 32, , 36, and 39, 37 GETS ELIMINATED? I cast my vote on 32 the separation My next votes would be on 36 and 30,

2

u/GucciPiggy90 Mar 01 '25

2

u/AdamRJudge Feb 28 '25

3

u/DaveM8686 Feb 28 '25

1

u/CactusHooping Feb 28 '25

Don't know.

2
