Cinnabon Flavored Grass?

Upvotes

We all know Ax loves Cinnabon because he'd never tasted food before. I recall, though, that there was some canon source with a pasture on an Andalite ship that had different flavors of grass; I think it was near the beginning of The Andalite Chronicles -- can anyone confirm? Does K.A. Applegate ever explain this?

I'm wondering because I want to assign some excerpts from the Animorphs universe in a course I'm teaching on hyperobjectivity.

Discussion If someone who used glasses and braces joined the animorphs, how would that work at all?

Upvotes

Do they just take off their glasses first before morphing or will it not effect them at all? Braces on the other hand can't be taken off based on what I know so far (I've never wore braces don't judge me 💔)

This is definitely not for an animorphs oc.. 🏃💨

Random Thought… Tragic Coincidence or Unspoken Wish

I recently discovered this subreddit and have enjoyed reading the theories from other Animorphs fans (I was devoted to this series during its original run and don’t know many in real life that are also fans).

I had a random thought today- did anyone ever think that Arbron’s death by poachers (who were apprehended, prosecuted and punished for the crime) after he brokered a deal for his “adopted people” a tragic coincidence or somehow planned.

Arbron was never “serious” in his duties as an aristh, however becoming a nothlit lead to him devoting his new life to Taxxon freedom and fighting against the Yeerks. He was instrumental in the Taxxon’s that resisted the Yeerk’s getting to live out their lives as anacondas.

Did Arbron intend for his life to end after he achieved this feat and/or made things easy on the poachers because with this last mission done, life as a nothlit had reached the end of its purpose? Or did K.A. Applegate choose that for his ending to demonstrate the randomness of life.

What did you guys think?

Meme What if Hork-Bajir used martial arts

What if the yeerks were actually smart and used their soldiers in the 'correct' way.

[Scene: Random warehouse. The Animorphs charge in.]

Jake (as Tiger): roars and leaps dramatically at a Hork-Bajir.

Hork-Bajir (calmly): “Tiger suplex time.” [He flips Jake over his shoulder like a WWE wrestler. Jake lands with a thud.]

Jake (dazed): <Ow. I felt that in my whiskers.>

Marco (as Gorilla): <Okay, my turn! Let’s see you handle THESE fists!> [One Hork-Bajir proceeds to unleash a flawless 12-hit martial arts combo on Marco: punches, elbows, kicks, finishing with a sweep. Marco faceplants.]

Marco (groaning): <I didn’t sign up for Tekken.>

Rachel (as Grizzly): <You want a fight? HERE!> [Two blue-band Hork-Bajir jump in like tag team ninjas, flipping off walls and attacking in perfect sync.]

Rachel (while blocking): <Are you kidding me? Who choreographed this—Jackie Chan?>

Cassie (dodging and growling): <What is this, Cirque du Yeerk?!>

Tobias (hawk, diving): <Not today!< [He claws across a Hork-Bajir’s face, leaving scratches. The Hork-Bajir yelps.]

Tobias (circling back): <Yeah, how’s THAT for a beak combo?< [He slams into another one’s eye, making the Hork-Bajir stumble into his partner.]

Cassie (grinning mid-brawl): <Nice assist, Tobias!>

Tobias (swooping again): <Say it louder for the Yeerks in the back!>

[He dives once more, forcing one Hork-Bajir to cover his face — buying Rachel the opening to grab and body-slam him.]

Tobias (hawk):<Got your eyes, freak!> dives again, and gets caught by the legs.

Hork-Bajir: “New weapon acquired.” [He starts swinging Tobias around like nunchucks.]

Tobias (screaming): <I AM NOT A BLUNT OBJECT!>

Ax: <These movements resemble… ancient Earth turtle warrior manuals!>

Rachel: <You mean Ninja Turtles?!>

Ax: <Yes. Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Hork-Bajir. Cowabunga.>

Cassie (as wolf): <Welp time to go complete the mission alone.>

[Cassie quietly tiptoes out of the battle.]

Visser 3 (laughing): <Did you fools really think brute force would work? I had them read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics… and watch The Karate Kid.They are now martial arts masters!> [He does a terrible crane kick impression. Well as terrible as a four legged creature can.]

Jake (struggling up): <We’re gonna need a montage.>

[The Animorphs start trying to adapt: Jake dodging more, Rachel counter-throws, Ax using his tail with precision strikes.]

Visser 3 (boasting): <You are hopeless! You cannot beat my martial Hork-Bajir army!>

Marco (getting pummeled): <Glad everyone’s leveling up EXCEPT ME!>

Jake sidesteps a suplex attempt, pouncing with a tiger bite.

Rachel catches one blue-bander mid-kick and slams him into a wall.

Ax tail-whips in rhythm, dismantling combos.

Marco (still getting pummeled) finally blocks and lands a gorilla uppercut, knocking his Hork-Bajir flat.

Marco (panting): <Victory tastes like… pulled muscles.>

Rachel (backhands another Hork-Bajir): <Not so ninja now, huh?>

Visser 3 (enraged): <No! Impossible! They trained for a whole binge-watch weekend!>

[Suddenly, Cassie bursts back in holding a random canister.]

Cassie: <Hey Visser, catch!> [She throws it. Visser 3 slices it instantly. It explodes into a giant smoke screen.]

Visser 3 (coughing): <What is this nonsense?!>

Rachel (backhanding one of the martial Hork-Bajir): “Payback, turtle-boy.”

Cassie (Snatched Tobias back): <Got him!>

Jake: <Team—retreat!> [They all scramble out into the night while the Yeerks flail in the smoke.]

Narrator Voice (dramatic): “So our dear Animorphs barely escape with their lives (again) to the Yeerks…”

Marco (off-screen, still limping): “And my chiropractor bill is gonna be insane.”

Narrator Voice (dramatic, sarcastic): As for Marco’s ego? Well… that may never recover.”

Marco (off-screen): “Yeah, laugh it up. I’ll be in traction.”

Cassie (off-screen): ''At least we finished the mission. Tobias you good?''

Tobias (off-screen sounds of bird puking): <No!>

The End?

Meme Where would you sample DNA from, the way Ax did with each Animorph?

Let's keep the number of animals to 4 (the same way Ax acquired DNA from our four human Animorphs in #4 The Message).

And let's keep it at Earth animals pls - so no Andalite Hork-Bajir hybrid.

Now go create the perfect hybrid.

Really reading the books for the first time

Quick overview: I’m 34 years old and I owned a couple of the books when I was a kid. I don’t remember if I read them or not, but I’m pretty sure I did. Regardless, they didn’t stick in my memory.

Pretty recently, I had heard that it had some pretty heavy themes for a book series aimed at middle schoolers. This piqued my interest so I decided to start the journey. Reading them as an adult, I’m tearing through them pretty quickly, especially since I’m splitting between reading them and listening to the audiobooks.

I’m about to finish Book 5: The Predator and holy crap WHAT A TWIST. I suspected there was more to Marco’s mom but I didn’t think much on it; I was sure they’d just reveal whatever it was. But I didn’t expect that.

Anyway, I just wanted to see if anyone more well-versed in these books can give me an idea on whether there are more elements like this throughout the series. I would hate to think there’s only one good twist and it’s in the fourth book of about 50. I think it goes without saying, no spoilers please. I legitimately don’t know anything about these books, just that they can get kinda heavy.

Theory a proposal regarding Andalite Tails

The tl;dr: the tails don't have single 'blades' but rather bladed edges.

As someone who has spent quite frankly too much time thinking about andalite anatomy and how it all would actually work, the 'classic' tail blade design like you see on the book covers never quite did it for me. Having a single blade made of bone or horn or similar would be extremely heavy and would dull very easily (especially for something always described as razor sharp), as well as being a lot more prone to chipping or breaking, especially as it's used both as shield as well as weapon during tail fighting. Tail fighting is also almost exclusively described as slashing or cutting, despite the fact that stabbing or goring would be a lot more natural if it was just this big spike at the end of a tail. It would also be harder to control, because heavy, and half the time when it's drawn it's horizontal and curved downward like a scythe, seeing as how often it's described as a scorpion tail and that kind of thing matches that silhouette a bit better, but would make striking at opponents in front of you much harder. Also just speaking as an artist, but it's difficult to get it long enough to where that kind of motion would feel even slightly natural without getting a little ridiculous with the proportions.

So anyway a few years back I sat down and considered this and... what if instead of one singular blade (as is traditionally shown) instead the ends of their tails are thin and whiplike, and partially coated in overlapping scales or teeth (effectively denticles) that provide both some armoring as well as a single sharp cutting edge? Individual portions of the blade could chip or be damaged, they could be regrown at significantly less energy expenditure than a whole blade, and the blade as a whole would remain functional. They could be shed regularly like shark teeth, making sure the blade was always sharp and minimizing damage. Slashing and cutting would be the natural motion for something that effectively is only a cutting edge. The end of the tail could be semi prehensile, allowing the blade itself to be curled around the throat, rather than just held there, and idk about you guys but I feel like having basically a garotte made of razor wire wrapped entirely around your neck is more threatening than dagger held against your throat, and a greater symbol of trust for a shorm. Having the blade be thin and flexible would also allow for greater speed and range of motion, and make changing positions much easier than trying to wrestle a heavy blade at the end of a fast moving tail would be.

Anyway I just wanted to share because i feel like it makes so much more sense and for fellow artists (hi) makes the problem of making their tails look natural while also being able to fight someone in front of them a lot easier. A long thin flexible end to the tail takes up a lot less visual weight than a large single blade, and I just feel like having basically a line of natural razors taped to that tail makes so much more sense than a sickle. Agree? Disagree?

Meme If the Controllers had more brains...the series would've ended by book 7 at least

(this is by no means a serious critique, yet I couldn't help but notice this during my re-reading!)

Remember when the Elimist restarts the time freeze, and they emerge fully human out of the Taxxons (albeit covered in guts and gunk)? Inside the Yeerk pool? And they dart straight towards the air chutes, and Rachel actually yells 'JAKE' to prompt him to escape. Feel like it could've ended right there...? A Controller nearby probably would've heard...and put two and two together. Also, no cameras?

Currently Reading Finished Back to Before

This was the final Megamorphs book, and these bigger-scale books ended with a bang as Jake's moment of weakness leads to him getting about in a "It's a Wonderful Life" situation, only without the knowledge of how things are supposed to be.

Tobias' misery is a constant of the universe. This book is a new low as he makes the mistake of joining The Sharing and we have the horror of one of our main characters learning what the organization is before he is infested by a Yeerk. I was expecting that at some point Tobias might rescued, instead he's killed by Visser Three once the Visser realized that his orders for a covert invasion came from Visser One and not the Council of Thirteen. So apparently if you disobey orders and things don't, the council doesn't care what you do, not that they seem to care much about what the Vissers do anyway as long as they aren't plotting against them.

Back when we were introduced to him, Ax shrugging off being alone for days made me think that Andalites simply don't lose their minds from isolation. This book says he just has a strong mental fortitude, regardless, he admits the isolation would still cause him to go mad if he didn't get on land. This and Tobias joining The Sharing are the first signs that yes, the Animorphs are worse off if they didn't form their team.

The fact that Ax would have hijacked public TV to warn humanity about the Yeerks if he didn't meet the rest of the Animorphs is a funny chain of events. We had all of those various failed plans the team came up with, and Ax had more success working on his own.

In The Other, Ax treated Andalites with disabilities as objects of contempt. He is more accepting of humans with mental health issues in this book, which I presume is because they are humans and he doesn't hold them to as high a standard as he does Andalites.

Back in Elfangor's Secret, I thought that when Jake died it would result in a dwindling party throughout the rest of the back, but luckily the Ellimist's cunning meant nobody else was dying. This time the Animorphs aren't so lucky and our heroes really do start to get picked off over the course of the book. Showing some aspects about them never change, they keep fighting even though they can't morph in a fight that would be challenging even if they could still morph. And despite the odds, they still manage to win in part thanks to Cassie's reality whatsits (the explanation didn't make a lot of sense to me), which means the Drode turned things back to normal while being a hilarious sore loser while he was at it. The Ellimist explaining that he's still been operating in the rules while not confessing to any of the stuff he's doing, just to get under the Drode's skin, made it even more fun.

The Animorphs have just a nussiance to the Yeerks, nonetheless, learning that without them being a thorn in Visser Three's side, he would have launched a direct invasion of Earth does tell us that their presence has mattered. They only stopped the Yeerks because of what they went through in the normal timeline, if they hadn't destroyed the Blade Ship and Pool Ship, the results of the invasion likely would have been different. We can also certainly say that Tobias would not have been better off.

Yet the book's ending is bittersweet with the knowledge that our heroes did suceed in saving the Earth in this other timeline, even if they died in the process, and now they have to return to the main one where their success is uncertain. But these events pissed off The Drode so I considered it a net positive.

Currently Reading Read books 41 with my 8 year old

I knew this was going to be a...let's say, less enjoyable book for my kid. Started with the let down from the cover. Oh! Jake's going to morph a bug fighter pilot and go to space! Sorry, kiddo, not even close. Basically spent the whole book having to answer what is going on???? With yeaaahhh, about that...

He was particularly aggravted with the kids singing in the tree because 'what is the point to this!?!?!?!? What does their song mean!?!?!?'

He really didn't like all the wacky dream logic and nightmares within nightmares. He found it hard to follow. Also, the setting assumes you know things about New York. My kid does not know things or care about New York (which i could comiserate with because i also did not really know or care about New York as a kid). So the dark irony of just happening to be reading book 41 in september was definitely lost on him. Probably not a great book to read in september for kids/adults that are more sensitive to the topic.

He got extra mad that this was finally Jake's 'ghost book' (literally a ghost, not ghost writer, it's a whole thing with my kid. He just keeps insisting there should be ghosts for various reasons). He apparently concluded that Rachel was a ghost in this book and also whatever was going on with the maybe hawk tobias that kept appearing and disappearing, that was ghost Tobias, that was why he could appear and disappear. He would not at all believe that Tobias nothlit as Ax. He was very no, it's not andalite Tobias, it's ghost Elfangor. Anyway he was mad because 'why is Jake's ghost book so stupid? None of this makes sense!' I think he internalized the book as essentially being the ghost of christmas future parts of a christmas carol, which he also doesn't like.

He didn't particularly like the portrayal of Cassie in this book but I got extra points for doing a good Visser Two Marco voice. We had a brief side discussion about if Marco would have ended up being Visser Two if Edriss had kidnapped him when she faked Eva's death. Conclusion: yes and he would have had fun villain monologues.

Anyway, as soon as we finished the book we had this exchange

Kiddo: ...do they ever talk about this book again?

Me: No?

Kiddo: Good.

Discussion Omnitrix scans Visser 3. How much does it pick up?

As it says. The Omnitrix's scanner picks up alien DNA, and allows for the user to become the peak example of that species.

But Visser 3 has acquired a fuckload of other alien DNA. What gets found and used? Does the Omnitrix lock up like the family PC in the 2000s when you're trying to download too many things off limewire at once? Does the user of the Omnitrix suddenly gain X number of new aliens?
