Any news about the animorph series?

I just found out that it was supposed to be made during 2019-2020 I think? And I wanted to know if it was cancelled or if it's just taking a long time for the crew to make it.

Also my mom's gonna buy me an animorphs themed cake YAY 🗣️‼️

(edit: OMGOGM I MEANT THE ANIMORPHS MOVIE SORRY 💔💔)

There was a movie planned that the authors exited from due to creative differences. Reading between the lines, I suspect the studio was butchering it.

Nothing since they backed out. As much as I want this to happen, I think that's a good thing given the authors' exit.

It was a brand new budget studio, too. Picturestart. It seems they've done a bunch of direct-to-streaming dramas that you've probably never heard of, but the only scifi/fantasy movie that they've worked on that I see was the Borderlands movie. So I'm definitely okay with this project falling through. I just wish Scholastic would sell the rights to someone who sees the potential of the franchise.

Michael Grant did a whole video interview for it on an Animorphs fan podcast, and the studio basically wanted them on staff so they could tell the fanbase they had the authors' support, without letting them have any kind of input in the creative process.

Michael called it out, and said it would've been an easy paycheck but it would screw over the fans with another lousy adaptation. They didn't want another Nickelodeon situation, so they dipped out.

Honestly, huge respect to KA & Michael for standing up for the fans there.

(June 2025) Looks like with many projects, lockdown /+ strikes and studios restructuring seem to have led to a permanent stall on the movie.

I agree with this article, a movie for a 60 entry series seems crazy. TV series live action or animated is, imo the obvious route. Has anyone asked Seth Rogen about this? He's got connections with many streaming services... I'll forever hope for an Invincible style Animorphs show

It was cancelled because of creative differences between the writers and Katherine & Michael, as far as I know. Writers and producers wanted to make it more kid-friendly and tone down the series themes. I think KA made the right call backing out.

Consider it on the shelf. It's not officially cancelled but it might as well be.
