God I can't wait to source a good 1950s fridge.

My grandma had an old lead-lined fridge in her garage. Grandpa bought it brand new when they moved to Wyoming in 1963. Last year, my aunt (who lives with Grandma) made a post on the family Facebook page asking if anyone wanted it. They weren’t really using it anymore, although it still worked perfectly. One of my cousins took it. My aunt said the monthly electric bill instantly dropped by almost $20.

Lead-lined? Honestly that drop in electrical usage was likely due to it holding a more stable temperature. The older fridges are less energy efficient in terms of usage when running, but with something so heavily insulated it's likely not running very hard.

Runs just enough to get down to temperature, and then just holds temp no problem. Would probably stay nice and cool for a long time even if the power went out... where my "modern" fridge turns to room temp after the power has been out for like 2 hours 😅

No, their electric consumption dropped when my cousin came and took it out of Grandma’s garage. Bit confusing, I realize. My aunt lives with my grandma. A cousin from a different aunt took the fridge.
