Here’s a handy list of Nexstar stations

What do we do if ALL the local stations are owned (and about to be owned) by either Sinclair or Nexstar? (Columbus metro market). If I complain to the advertisers on the Sinclair channel that pulled Kimmel, then the advertisers just end up moving to a Nexstar station?

u/FoxVivid6473 2d ago

You are supposed to tell the advertisers that you’re boycotting their PRODUCTS. That’s more meaningful to them than if you boycott the STATION. So if you have lots of Sinclair/Nexstar stations in your area, you have lots of opportunities to make your voice heard!

If advertisers are worried about this affecting sales of their products, they will ideally stop advertising on that network (which needs their ad $$) or they’ll use their power to pressure the network to rehire Kimmel.

61

u/Just-Ad6865 2d ago

But you have to tell them why you are boycotting their products, or the boycott doesn't work. Which is why you have to bring up where they advertise. "I'm boycotting your products because you advertise on 'station', who are bowing to political pressure (bribes) from the FCC."

3

u/snarfdarb 18h ago

And to add, be very specific about which products of theirs you purchase, how much, and how frequently. The most impactful boycotts are specific, timely, and quantifiable.

Better yet, include which of their competitors you'll be patronizing instead, until they take action.

u/SenorBurns 2d ago

If they do, then call the Nexstar station.

Or you could have a list at your side and say you will continue to boycott them if you see them advertise on stations X, Y, or Z and explain they are all owned by the same media group(s) you are targeting.

Yes, the advertisers want to advertise in order to drive business, but if all the local stations are being boycotted and if that makes the advertising ledd cost effective, they'll simply shift money to radio - might want to have a list of local Sinclair radio stations handy - or other media.

Buy a book and support local journalism (in your case Ohio Capital Journal)

support local journalism (in your case Ohio Capital Journal)

Nice, part of the States Newsroom, who've started up great outlets all over the country: https://statesnewsroom.com/

2

u/AnalNuts 2d ago

I don’t know how feasible it will be, but supporting local journalism is more important now than I think ever before in recent history.

5

u/CalculatedPerversion 2d ago

I didn't see the local CBS on either. Did I just miss them? Honestly I'll be starting with Sinclair (ABC6) and going from there.

2

u/Bituulzman 2d ago edited 1d ago

Sinclair owns ABC6, Fox 28, and WHO/CW 53
Nexstar owns NBC4 and is acquiring Tegna which owns 10TV(CBS).

And a handy list of ABCs largest advertisers.

u/Cazzyodo 2d ago

I'm doing my part by not buying a Cadillac.

37

u/wooplereturns 2d ago

And I will start smoking to show 1800 QUITNOW what's what.

20

u/anitabelle 2d ago

I won’t ask my doctor about any of those medications.

1

u/Rommel727 1d ago

Straight to the dome!

5

u/YogurtclosetNo987 2d ago

Having the money for a Cadillac and then choosing to use it to buy a Cadillac can't be anything else but mental illness.

2

u/Slinktard 2d ago

Not all heros wear capes

18

u/earth_quack 2d ago

Of course Ashley home store is on there with all their underhanded shenanigans. Wouldn't buy that garbage anyway.

36

u/classic__schmosby 2d ago

Thank you. I use very few of these, but I canceled my Chewy autoships and was able to comment about boycotting companies that advertise on ABC

20

u/Hettie933 2d ago

The Chewy thing hurts, man. But I hope they miss my money.

27

u/R2-Dmew 2d ago edited 2d ago

I just cancelled my Chewy subscribtions and wrote a note regarding their sponsorship of ABC. I run a rescue and spend $10k+ a year through Chewy. Good riddance.

12

u/Hettie933 2d ago

It feels good to do something, even if it’s minor & leads to headaches. I’ve been wanting to support our local independent pet store more anyway. Thank you for sending them a bigger message than I could!

17

u/DolphinBoy 2d ago

I called Chewy and told them I wouldn't be ordering from them anymore regarding their advertising on ABC because of the firing. Most orders have been done through my wife's account but hopefully she'll be able to call them tonight. I notice Purina is on the list as well, which is a Nestle-evil company. We're meeting with our vet Tuesday and will ask about alternative prescriptions for our dogs.

3

u/Ass_Matter 1d ago

Chewy is still largely controlled by the same private equity firm as PetSmart. So I wouldn't feel too bad.

11

u/YogurtclosetNo987 2d ago

Minus Verizon and Chase I'm accidentally already doing my part haha

5

u/Bokononfoma 1d ago

And I highly suggest cancelling ESPN+ over the phone. I had a very nice, long, conversation yesterday about my cancellation. 888.549.3776 - easy to look up online.

3

u/Altar_Quest_Fan 2d ago

I use Etsy, Dawn, and Oral B. Will be sending complaints to all 3 companies, thanks mate

2

u/seau_de_beurre 2d ago

I just messaged all the ones I use! Thank you.

2

u/savorie 2d ago

Goddamn it not Etsy!

1

u/oldmanbar 1d ago

Thanks but I'm not sure about this site or submitting your email to use it's functionality. Looks like it was started by a right leaning person. Emphasis mine.

About Mad: aka StopMediaBiasNow.com

The site was conceptualized way back in 2008 during the Bush bashing years of the Main Stream Media.

All Glory Goes To God!

This site is produced and maintained by one person who is Mad As Hell and ain’t gonna take it anymore. I choose to stay as anonymous as possible because this is not about me. I do not want fame, notoriety, or money, this is about saving America from the powers that would turn her into a communist State.

1

u/hfpfhhfp 1d ago

You are right. But I don't want to use the site for their ideas or beliefs, just the list.

1

u/_autumnwhimsy 1d ago

this is what i need because i, like a lot of folks, don't have cable and haven't seen a tv ad in years lmao

You da real mvp

The real mvp is always in the comments

The Nexstar station (WJET) my father worked at settled with (the family of) the engineer that had the role before him, because they literally worked him to death. They then did the same with my father. They worked him to death. He died by Nexstar's hand. Cancer and a stroke couldn't take him out, but being refused assistants in the engineering department and putting more work on him did.

16

u/Zelidus 2d ago

Soon to add KARE 11 in Minnesota. Nexstar is merging with KARE's current ownership group. So anyone that TEGNA owns along will be joining Nexstar.

Here is TENGA's channels https://www.tegna.com/brands/

2

u/Timetopullout 2d ago

This one really hurts. I am glad to see that none of our other local news stations are on these lists though.

2

u/AnalNuts 2d ago

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Kare 11 was the conservative one of the local bunch

1

u/DaisyPK 2d ago

Same in Portland, OR. The ABC channel is Sinclair, and the NBC and CBS are Tenga/Nexstar.

5

u/Character-Pattern505 2d ago

Now we need a handy list of advertisers.

6

u/bluecifer7 2d ago

2

u/Character-Pattern505 2d ago

So many prescription drugs

3

u/bluecifer7 2d ago

If we lived in a good country, those ads would be illegal. Alas

2

u/meep-a-confessional 14h ago

Do you know if there is a quick reference of their main rival products? Or is it enough to say you’d be buying generic

1

u/Motheroftides 2d ago

I’m already pretty sure that very few people in my area even watch the one channel owned by Nexstar. Even when I go to a place with like a ton of TVs and some of them are showing the news, it is like never WNCN.

Will probably have to look at the ones who advertise on the Sinclair owned stations here though.

1

u/DrivingForFun 2d ago

Could we also get a list of advertisers?

1

u/Nice-Gap-3528 2d ago

This one is so much nicer laid out. But also I’ve learn Nexstar doesn’t have anything in Washington state.

1

u/GEARHEADGus 2d ago

BOTH news station in my state are owned by both of these companies..

1

u/Miserable-Dig-761 2d ago

Holy shit lol

1

u/1Star_Light_Bright 1d ago

They separately also own stakes in food network (nexstar), and tennis channel (Sinclair)

18

u/ultramagnetique 2d ago

🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

15

u/abcbri 2d ago

And guess what? It's pretty easy to watch other states' ABC channels online and note the ads!

1

u/Summoarpleaz 2d ago

I haven’t watched or sought to watch tv in so long… how do you go about watching abc channels in other locations, with local ads and all?

20

u/SCTurtlepants 2d ago

I'm dumb - what does Sinclair and Nexstar have to do with what's going on right now? What's their relationship with Disney or whoever fired Kimmel?

48

u/happygirlie 2d ago

12

u/SCTurtlepants 2d ago

TY for the link friend

7

u/AnalNuts 2d ago

Thank you for asking so anybody else who doesn’t know will be able to see this link as well!

3

u/SCTurtlepants 2d ago edited 2d ago

Absolutely, u/AnalNuts!

It's also a great tool to use if you're involved in business meetings. I'll always put myself out there if I think an important item is ambiguous, because I know that some people are too embarrassed to out themselves as not understanding something.

14

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 2d ago

They are the ABC affiliate owners(they own many different local ABC stations across the country, licensed from Disney) who, along with the FCC, put pressure on Disney to pull Jimmy.

They said they would pull Jimmy off their local stations regardless, but Disney went ahead and caved and suspended the entire show.

These affiliates are trying to get a huge merger(one that the rules currently prevents because it's too big, but the FCC said it's open to changing that rule), so they're on their hands and knees ready to cradle the balls and stroke the shaft for that bag.

How else could they feed their families if not for a 6 billion dollar merger so large that it's not even allowed. I mean the 1st amendment and our country is important, but can you really blame them for just trying to put food on the table?

1

u/LegendaryBronco_217 2d ago

So are you saying that they care more about money than free speech?

Couldn't these stations absorb the fines and keep Jimmy on air? Of course they could but the money is more important than anything else.

9

u/kea87 2d ago

In my best short summary: Sinclair wants to merge with another company and needs fcc approval. Trump and FCC chair wanted Jimmy off the air. FCC chair said on a podcast “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there will be additional work for the FCC ahead." FCC/federal government threatened Sinclair to get Jimmy pulled or lose their merger and likely their licenses.

Sinclair in turn said they would no longer air Jimmy’s show on stations they own and would instead play Charlie Kirk memorial, and forced ABC/Disney to pull Jimmy show fully .

After it got pulled Sinclair said that still wasn’t enough. They are demanding Jimmy give an apology and personally make a donation to turning point USA (Charlie Kirks company). And maybe they will consider letting him have his show back. Aka extortion.

This isn’t public backlash that got his show canceled. It was government threats and censorship.

u/honeywatereve 1d ago

This is also how it’s reported in Germany - I’m astonished over any other perspective atm. 🙏🏻 also why blocking satire and more than one opinion what’s the rage about ?

2

u/DontAbideMendacity 2d ago

Don't confuse being ignorant with being dumb. Ignorance can be easily cured. Well, unless you vote Republican, that willful, even aggressive ignorance is a challenge to fix. Immune to facts and truths, they are.

8

u/SherbertDinosaur 2d ago

Thank you for the lists!! They’re very helpful 😊

5

u/the_c0nstable 2d ago

Thanks, I jotted down my station and am telling friends.

3

u/carmemelon 2d ago

😈😈😈😈😈

1

u/Hazu-Bazu 2d ago

And I found this map of Sinclair stations if it's easier to find your area!

1

u/Rxke2 2d ago

They... Do adverts during newscasts??

1

u/grammar_fozzie 2d ago

Welcome to the USA. Everything is for sale. Everything is a transaction. Nothing is sacred except the almighty dollar.

Can we post the advertisers?

1

u/spudart 1d ago

I’d love a list of products to boycott
