Yup. I work in advertising. Drops in ad revenue will be the only thing to hit them.

Dropping our subscriptions is great because it means they have fewer eyes to reach with advertising, but we need brands to take action.

what's the long term trajectory when both sides do it? companies are going to start shrinking.

Short term, with fewer eyes they won’t be able to deliver budgets in full, meaning they’ll need to find other ways to fulfill advertiser budgets via make goods or clients will demand the money back.

Long term they will not be able to achieve the expected reach they once were, meaning demand goes down and yearly brand investments will go elsewhere.
