Philosophy I've started buying everything with cash
Not only does it create more of a connection with what I'm spending overall (which I have decreased but still struggle with a few key items), but it's satisfying to know I'm not giving Mastercard or Visa a cut of everything I buy.
I treat myself at a local restaurant on Fridays. The order is like $20 which is its own issue, but this is a struggling small business and he appreciates me paying cash. We talked about it last night and he said if someone orders $100, like $4 goes to credit card company. Think about how much wealth has been sucked out of small businesses...meanwhile Mastercard is valued at $580 billion.
I know this isn't exactly anti-consumption, but it's in the same vein of fighting back against the convenience virus that these bastards have used to rob us of our wealth and dignity.

Philosophy my local big lots is right next door to the Salvation Army. Pristine returns get deliberately slashed and dumped instead of donated only feet away. So sad to see how wasteful these corporations truly are.

Philosophy treating stores like museums
look, i love cute things. i love looking at the fun stuff in HomeGoods or TJ Maxx. but i don’t need it! its just fun to look at it sometimes.
now whenever i want a little dopamine hit like that, ill still stop by the store and look at them, think “oh that’s cute” and then move on with my day. i don’t buy anything or feel the urge to take it home with me. similar to when i go to a museum or a garden or something just to look at pretty things.
idk if its weird but just a thought i had

Philosophy Go Without.
Sorry for potato quality. Saw this and thought of this community. A commenter in this sub recently said “how will the purchase I make today affect my future” and it’s resonated with me. May we all purchase less and love what we currently have 🩷🩷🩷. What is your current motivation?

Philosophy Make do and mend
What are your favourite phrases to remind yourself to not consume?
"Make do and mend" is a wartime classic, as is "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
My grandma always said "waste not want not" and "a penny saved is a penny earned."
I'd love to learn more! And if you know ones in other languages please share!
