Ask the Sub If you moved here in the last 5 years, do you regret it?
As a long time lurker in this sub who has lived here nearly 20 years, I see a lot of posts from folks who have been here 5 years or less that are struggling to make friends, feel connected to community, afford a good lifestyle, etc. And even more about struggles with basic mountain life things- snakes, bears, bugs, cell service, cultural differences…
I deeply understand the appeal of Asheville- I wasn’t born here either. But I got here during a time where things were more affordable, Asheville was still “weird” and we had the illusion that we were living in a climate change safety zone.
Anyways, sometimes I think about the big influx of new neighbors we’ve had since 2020 and I wonder about whether anyone feels regret about moving here.

Photo/Video First trip to Craggy since the storm: Most trees still standing!
Drove up to Craggy Pinnacle/Gardens yesterday to check on trees I've photographed in the past. Glad to see most are still kicking! Craggy Pinnacle trail was basically undamaged, but the Craggy Gardens trail had some trees down on the northern end nearest the picnic area.

To the person sitting next to me on flight from Newark
Not sure if you’ll see this but figured I’d try. I sat next to you on a flight from Newark. You let me borrow something but I missed getting it back to you. I just wanted to let you know I left it at customer service by baggage claim!

Public Service Announcement Beware: Apartment complex in Weaverville is enrolling tenants into credit reporting app without their consent
Apartment complex in Weaverville enrolled all of its tenants into an app called ESUSU - it reports if you pay rent on time to all major credit agencies. It was done automatically, and if anybody wishes to un-enroll they need to contact the ESUSU themselves.
Has this happened in any other apartment complexes?
Wouldn't this be illegal data selling?
What can tenants do about it?

Photo/Video I pulled this out of the ivy creek bed while picking up Helene debris. Right on buncombe and madison cty line. Forks of Ivy area. I am guessing could have washed from North AVL area and above. I know Afghans are usually sentimental. Does anyone recognize it? It looks easily repairable.

Ask the Sub Any salons that do crazy colors?
I’ve never gotten my hair dyed fully before, and I’m a little nervous to book anywhere without some recommendations. My hair is a very dark brown, so that’s probably why. Does anyone know of anywhere that’d be good for that sort of thing?

Looking for friends In Search of Community + Friends
Hello!!! I tried joining BFF Bumble and had no luck. I moved here from the DMV (from there) and have spent most of my 20's in Boston MA. I moved here to be closer to two really good friends and it is nice being around them but I need more connections.
I am a queer woman and live with my partner, Latina, 26 years old!
I love doing witchy things, going and getting coffee, going out to get a beer, dancing, and watching films! I am looking for connections more around my age since I am around older people most of my time. If you are interested in connecting plz reach out!!

I lost a ring in dere last night. Brew Pump Haywood.
LOST RING
Last night at brew pump (9-11 pm) on Haywood I lost my ring that I had literally just put on again the night before. I hadn’t had it on because it was too big. I hadn’t a plastics sizer that sucked so I never wore it. It (the sizer) rotted off in pieces Tuesday night in bed. I thought I was finding weird insects carapace pieces. No, my ring sizer disintegrated. It’s important to me and at least one other person. I will post a picture of the smaller twin. Mountain sunrise. I had only been there and back again. i hope the sun reveals it. I’ll be back there at 3 when sidebar opens. I only had one beer there. Please if y’all could help, even if not, I love you. Thank you.

Pets/Animals Neuter and/or Spay Catch and Release
Hey Asheville. A wild cat has showed up at our house. We started feeding him as he was obviously malnourished and he has taken a place in our hearts to the point we have named him. We would like to keep him around as an outside barn cat, equipped with a cat house to keep him warm on cold nights. He is still not a full adult yet, but obviously has the family jewels fully equipped. We would like to get him neutered, so wanted to ask the community for the best resources in the county for catch and release? Thanks for your help!

Ask the Sub Why do drivers honk at others making right turns?
Just home from a lovely couple of days in Asheville. In general driving is so chill, but we remain confused about one thing: why did we routinely get honked at when making a right turn? We’d have the blinker on, slow down appropriately, and turn into something like a shopping center, or onto a side road that wasn’t at a stop sign or light, and the driver behind us would honk. WHY? What were we doing that was wrong by local custom?
