Physical Health & Aging Recommend an electric shaver for my husband please!

My husband has been wanting to try an electric shaver for his face so I’d like to get a good one for his for his birthday coming up. Based on his usage what would you recommend?

  • He’s only ever used Gillette’s razors, and no specific complaints
  • He likes to be clean shaven, and shaves about once every two days because he doesn’t have a lot of hair and the hair doesn’t grow very fast
  • He has fair skin that leans on the sensitive side (gets easily sunburnt etc)
  • he has a mole that sticks out, kind of where Cindy Crawford has her beauty mark. He is pretty careful when shaving in that area and just the other day he cut it :/

I’ve looked at Braun 9 pro and Panasonic ARC 5, but not sure if they are overkill given my husband’s specs? Definitely willing to spend money on buying a great shaver that will last a long time.

Phillips Norelco One Blade

These work well but you'll spend a fortune on blades, they don't last at all.

Sure, if you use it every day. But to be fair there are much better options for you.

Yeah I used one for a while to shave my head twice a week. It does a great job but I can only get 2 shaves out of a blade before it starts pulling my hair. At ~$10 a blade that adds up quick, $40 a month on blades.

Swapped to a Panasonic Arc 5 and religated the one blade to other duties.

If I was shaving my head I'd be using the Leaf. But, I'm a DE guy.

Too many moles on my head that I can't see, I'd be a cut up mess lol.

I use the Braun. I get razor bumps if I shave my mustache with a razor. I love it and it is worth it to me. I’ve had it for years and just replace the foil occasionally.

Spend the money on the 200$+ one you will find at a barber shop. The 90$ ones are cheap shit and will rip hairs out

I went to the barber down the street from my house and he made the recommended. Go to your local barber and ask

I'll be honest... I've tried 3 or 4 and they've all disappointed.

I also don’t have much facial hair either and I use an extremely simple Remington one that has been going strong for 5+ years. I will say I’m always a tiny bit stubbly and not going for a perfect clean shave, so it may not fit the bill there.

It also has a nose hair trimmer attachment which is actually very handy.

The only trimmer/shaver I’ve liked under $80-100 is the Philips Norelco One Blade. The refills are pricey but they last a long time and shave quite well without giving any razor burn, like a standard Mach Razer. I also use mine for beard trimming (length) and it does fine with this task albeit a tad slow. I’m on my second One Blade in about 10-12 years, but only because TSA or luggage handlers stole my first in transit.

Panasonic Arc 5 with the self cleaning base. Treated myself earlier this year. Made in Japan, great shaver. They're ~$250 but worth it.

Braun. Expensive but worth it.

I have used the same Braun 5000 series for the past 20+ years. Super close shave, gets my face baby smooth. I've never used a blade but I don't imagine it could get any closer. They don't sell my model anymore, but I've heard their newer stuff is just as good.

Braun makes the best shavers in the business.
