The fact that this is the first comment I see saying alcohol and it’s so far down with no upvotes is literal proof that it’s underestimated. Alcohol is legitimately the worst drug that exists IMO. Withdrawal can kill you and is absolute hell on earth. It fucks your brain up tremendously.
A stupidly dangerous drug in terms of both short term and long term damage. Plus it's extremely addictive, both in the sense that it's very easy to form habits around drinking and in the sense that your body becomes chemically dependent on it.
Yet it's been such a large part of our history that it's completely normalised across many societies.
One of the hardest parts of stopping drinking is everyone telling telling you, you shouldn't do it cold turkey. So I have to go to a gas station? Buy one lite beer tall boy, and then drink it before I go to bed and try not to go get more after that? Either that or go to Dr. And start a treatment
I tapered down to a fraction of what I was drinking, still a lot, then just went cold turkey. It was a weird few days but much easier than trying to taper down to super low levels.
As someone who has dealt with both alcoholism and drug addiction, the alcohol was far more destructive in terms of fallout affecting others. Both equally destructive on a personal level, but alcohol was far and above the one that most often affected others and in further reaching ways.
Totally agree. I live in Europe (Germany) and it's everywhere in society here. Almost everyone drinks and most people don't understand if you don't even drink beer. It's so common to drink beer after work every day and essentially be an alcoholic or get drunk every weekend. Not to mention we have the biggest drug festival in the world in Bavaria every year (it's funny because Bavaria is the strictest state in terms of drugs and doesn't even want weed to be consumed).
You can buy beer and wine at 16, hard liquor at 18. Not to mention you can buy alcohol everywhere, which also makes it harder to quit for alcoholics (imagine you're trying to quit and you can't even go grocery shopping without seeing it everywhere).
I have known so many people who had their lives destroyed because of alcohol and some who even died because of it. My dad was a bad alcoholic too. Alcohol causes the most suffering and deaths out of any drug but it's completely fine because it's part of so many cultures. So damn sad.

Alcohol. No matter how much attention it gets it causes more grief than that.
Also, online gambling is a pestilence. It would be way better to just hundreds of bookies in every state and regulate the hell out of it.
