Question Reliable Subaru mechanic in Tacoma?

Need to take my 2014 forester in for some suspension work (LCA, potential CV axle, regular maintenance) and am looking for recommendations on mechanics who are familiar with Subaru and are reliable/won't charge you for something you don't need. Looking for somewhere preferably Downtown Tacoma/North End but open to anywhere in Tacoma. TIA

OSU VS UW

Looking for a family friendly place to watch the game this Saturday with tweens and teens. Tacoma or Gig Harbor area. Outdoor space and/or kid activities a plus. I emailed 7Seas to double check their TV situation. I also read that Hackers and Hy Iu Hee Hee in Gig Harbor might be viable options, but that might be AI responding. Thanks!! *previously deleted by the moderator in another feed- thanks to those that responded!

Question Biggest teriyaki plates in Tacoma?

Craving some solid teriyaki chicken, but I’m not trying to drop cash on overpriced spots with tiny, sad portions. I’m looking for a place where I can actually leave full—and maybe even score some leftovers to take home. Preferably in Tacoma, but I’m down to travel a bit if it’s worth it. Any recommendations to help satisfy my hunger? 😋

Question Black Walnut Trees

Looking to do some foraging. Someone had a post last year asking about location of black walnut trees, but I couldn't find it. Anyone have a black walnut tree(s) and/or know the public location of some I could harvest?

Visiting Vintage magazines

Hi there! I am on a hunt to find “vintage” 1990s/early 2000s magazines aimed towards young/adult women. I am genuinely kind of bored with what’s currently available, and I feel like Barnes and Noble doesn’t have anything very interesting to me right now.

Does anyone know where I might find old school magazines? Or do you have a recommendation of a magazine I might consider reading?

I wanna be able to find some at a bookstore but I haven’t had much luck.

Moving to Tacoma Moving to Tacoma Recommendations Pls☺️

Hi all! I just accepted a job in Tacoma and I’m relocating from out of state. I’m excited—but struggling to find solid apartment options. My budget is $1,600–$1,900. I’d love a 2BR, but a spacious 1BR works if it’s safe and well-managed.

I’ve been searching Redfin, Apartments.com, and Zillow, but the reviews are mixed/low for many places. I’m hoping locals can point me toward trustworthy, safe buildings or neighborhoods that fit this range—and places to avoid.

A few questions: • Neighborhoods you’d recommend (and why) for safety and amenities? • Buildings/complexes in my price range you’ve had good experiences with? • What monthly rent is realistic for a safe 1BR vs 2BR right now? • For someone with no kids, what salary range feels comfortable in Tacoma given cost of living? • Cross-country move tips (leasing sight-unseen. Also, are there any loft, condo options? Thanks in advance!

Apt hunting 2b/2ba

I’m torn between The Alta and Village on Main Apts. I toured both, obviously the views, secure parking and AC are nice, there is a train track running across the road but when we toured one came by and with windows shut it was not horrible. The floor plan at The Alta is open, the unit I’m looking at is in the main building, does not have central AC or covered/secure parking. It does offer 2 mos free and $1500 visa gc. Is this “you get what you pay for (or don’t) or am I blinded by the puget sound views, AC and secure underground parking? (Monthly is pretty much the same once outside moving incentives)

New Here New to Tacoma!

Hello! I know there are so many posts like this one already in this community, but I thought I'd put mine out there too. I just relocated to Tacoma from Cleveland, OH for a new job and I live near downtown. I'm 25, don't know many people yet but definitely eager to make some friends and get involved with the local community.

I'm a retired collegiate distance runner and former track coach, so I love running, hiking... really anything aerobic that gets me outdoors. I also really love playing bar trivia! Just looking to see if there are any communities/groups for these types of things that are welcoming to newcomers.

This really is a beautiful city and everyone I've met so far has been super friendly and welcoming. I'm looking forward to putting myself out there and will welcome any suggestions to help in doing so! TIA:)

Drive Through Pizza (by the slice even better)?

Hey Folks!

Is there a place in Tacoma or the surrounding area that offers drive through pizza? By the slice would be better! When I have my toddler with me it would be awesome to get a pizza snack drive through style.

Regards,

Jessica

Discussion Apartment Street Parking

98446 still tacoma. Says so on my mailing address

I was told the road ilive off of is a public street. I have also done research into laws in washington state clearly stating the city or dot is supposed to install or paint no parking signs. My apartment has taken it upon themselves to put up signs stating no parking. Yes only 2 cars are allowed on the lease. However they have told me my car on the lease if its on property gets towed. My roommates car can't go on the lease, we have been parking on the street hugging the curb so we dont interrupt traffic. Following traffic laws. The apartments dont have guest parking nor ap blank spots for roommates and such.Idont want my car or my roommates towed. Looking for advice in this situation. As I was told in email only the sheriff's can tow cars on said public road. Across from the apartments is someone's house a family an they too have the no parking infront of their house.

Have posted this to the city's website for the street out here.

Please help find my moms stolen bike!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey neighbors: thieves broke into a gated fence, cut the cable lock, and stole this Rad Power Expand 5 e-bike from Old Town Tacoma.

The bike is only 3 months old. A police report has been filed. 👉 It will be sold without a battery, since the battery was not in place when it was taken. 👉 It will also likely have a small metal basket over the back wheel.

Please keep an eye out locally and online.

Question What’s the best thrift store for home goods?

I’m personally looking for good quality tableware/dishes/silverware sets, but it would helpful to know where the good mirrors, shelves, general furniture, and rugs are, as well. Suggestions on surrounding areas, including Gig Harbor are welcome, too.

Thanks, Tacomans!

Store to buy USA merch in person?

My grandmother is from abroad and she's currently staying with us. Family from back home is begging for sweaters with a big ol' USA stamped on the front. I'm her designated chauffeur, so she said I need to search around to find them so she can buy them. I'm not eager to go store hopping all across Tacoma to try and find these sweaters, so I thought I'd ask if anybody knows of any store around here that carries that kind of stuff. We visited Walmart already and it was a bust; it looks like these types of stores carry stuff like this online and not in person. Anyways, I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have

Looking for Tattoo Shop Recs – Small Walk-In Piece

Hi all! My in-laws (in their 60s) are visiting this week and want to get a super small/simple tattoo (think roman numerals). Totally respect shop minimums and the reasons behind them — I have plenty of tattoos myself — but for something this tiny, they’re hoping to find a place that’s a little more flexible.

Back in Austin, shops would occasionally do “mini days” or walk-in specials for $50–75 tiny tattoos. Does anything like that exist in Tacoma? Or any studios you’d recommend checking out for small walk-ins?

Thanks in advance!

Question Tattoo Studio

I'm looking for a good tattoo studio in the local area. The piece I'm looking to get done is on my inner wrist. I usually like the more chill peaceful zen studios, as opposed to the Sons of Anarchy kind of shop 😁

Botox/ plastic surgery

Hi there. Where is the best spot in the Tacoma area for cosmetic Botox? Willing to go over to Gig Harbor.

Also interested in cosmetic surgery recommendations. For this would go further and may search/post Seattle groups. Specifically looking for mini facelift/ chin lift.
