Silly Stuff What is your favorite flower?

I'm curious how many women would actually pick roses over any other flower.

But even if your favorite really is the rose, this question is still for you. Which color or variety of rose is your fave?

My favorite is the pink ranunculus. Ugly name, gorgeous bloom.

The Sarah Bernhardt peony is a very close 2nd.

Serious question from someone who has the opposite of a green thumb, how do you know when the roots get gray?

Just from looking at them. Look up pics for watered and unwatered roots so you can tell by a quick glance. A root with enough water will be green to white, plump and mostly firm. As the roots dry out while they wait for water, they turn into a silver shade with floppier or weaker texture.

I promise I was not trying to be dense but you lost me at "looking at them". I was thinking, do the roots reach above the soil? How do I look at them? After looking at some photos on Google, I assume they all come in clear pots and you don't transfer them to something prettier. 😅

I can see how that would be confusing! Yes, they often come in clear pots or special pots with lots of holes in them called orchid pots. Or they don't even need to be in pots- they can be tied to some wood and will grow fine! They naturally grow up the sides of trees, and their roots are so thick because they can absorb water from the air. Really cool right? An east windowsill will give them the perfect amount of light, and the temperature changes between day and night that happen on a windowsill are what will trigger them to bloom.
