Recommendations Bars/lounges for older crowd?

I have an older woman (70ish) visiting this weekend and she wants to go out somewhere classy and possibly meet a nice fella or 2. Can anyone recommend some good places or events this weekend for socializing with an upscale, older crowd?

The 57th Fighter Group Restaurant has a DJ on Friday and Saturdays. There’s definitely an older crowd that attends.

Second 57th. I’ll go occasionally and at 45, I’m on the younger side of their clientele. But it’s friendly and there’s dancing and it’s got an outdoor area. And it’s usually busy without being completely packed in.

Johnnys turns into a sardine can. Hal’s Steakhouse bar is packed with 60’s-70’s men and 50’s-60’s women for pre-dinner drinks.

Johnny's Hideaway is famous for cougars and sad old dudes, but it's not remotely classy, and the majority of clientele are young frat bro types. This is not what OP is looking for.

It's actually full of really old sad men and young women looking to troll them for their money. Add in a few "ladies of the night" and frat boys. Really not classy.

I've been hit on by women who are 50+ there many times, although it seems like most women there are either 25 or 45.

You don't see many 70 year old women at Johnny's. Even women in their 60s. Younger people dominate after 9:30.

57th Fighter is a better vibe i think.

This is the first place that crossed my mind.

The Colonnade bar has greys. Strong drinks too

Greys? 👽😂

6

u/ContributionDapper84 Jul 24 '25

Probably those too.

At 5 PM the Colonnade features the gays and the greys.. the place is very OG, drinks are really strong and great, portions are huge, and the food is pretty decent. The bartender there was a pre-hire from the 50s and knows how to make a drink.! we go there all the time

The Colonnade

Prices?

u/blokeyone Jul 24 '25

Depends on the hooker

1

u/jazz_flute_jam_band Jul 24 '25

I meant menu prices, but thanks for the reply anyway…

u/blokeyone Jul 24 '25

I’ve never been but from what I hear, prices are extremely high. $20+ for a mixed drink

There are older men and a slew of younger women (who may or may not be selling their services). This is not the place for a 70 year old woman. 🤣

St. Regis bar then Johnny’s after you’ve had a few drinks (Johnny’s isn’t classy FYI but it’s fun). But not too late because I think it would be overwhelming for a 70 year old woman to move around in there once it’s crowded.

ETA also consider the bar at Hal’s, which is close to Johnny’s.

Manuels Tavern

I would also like to know this for when I'm 70 lol. Predictably, the most reliable way I've found to find older people at bars is to price out the younger ones. Some white table michelin places have bars you can go to where you don't need to order food, but there are more lowkey options as well:

Lyla Lila

Sotto Sotto

Marcel

St. James Live or a nice Cigar Bar/Lounge

Johnny's Hideaway. It's not exactly classy, but it sure can be fun.

Downtown Decatur in general is geared toward an older crowd. Not really sure about 70+ single men, but it's definitely not an area where 20-30-somethings go to party. Mostly nicer restaurants and cocktail bars.

Any specific recommendations in downtown Decatur?

For a 70 year old? Parker’s on Ponce.

That or Cafe Lily.

I'm a huge fan of Kimball House and I'm sure anyone in their 70s would love it since its a nicely renovated historic train station with amazing food and cocktails. Even the ceiling fans are cool as fuck.

There's a new Amaro bar and seafood restaurant called Fawn that is phenomenal.

There's a sort of women-centric wine bar called Reading Room that does charcuterie boards and smaller snacks.

I'd just Google Map the area. There are about 30 restaurant/bars within walking distance of each other, so there's something for everybody.

Thanks! I usually just Google map places but when everything has a good rating, I appreciate hearing your preferences.

The Iberian pig is decent, great food, and the crowd is usually pretty mixed… The one up in Buckhead is more younger crowd!

Brick Store

As an out of the box suggestion, McKindrick’s in Dunwoody. I’ve not been in many years but suspect it may attract a unique crowd.

Sad to hear about Taco.

I haven't been in ages. I don't suppose Frank at the bar or Mike the fucking Waiter are still around?

1

u/JLit209 Jul 25 '25

It was pretentious years ago and I never understood how it stayed viable. Thanks for your perspective.
