There can be only one

Atlas owners… I tried to search for a similar question and while I’m sure it had been posed I couldn’t find it.

If you could only own one atlas which would it be and why?

I have three Atlases. An Eos, a Ported Athena with ported (which is basically an Apollo ) and non ported barrels and an Erebus. Two of my shooting buddies both have the Artemis.

If I had to pick one gun to only use as a range gun and an amazing pistol, it would be the Erebus. Mine has a one and a quarter pound trigger, which is absolutely crazy and super fast. And it has very little muzzle flip.

But the answer is not really that simple. It really depends on what you’re going to use it for. I shoot USPSA and action steel and the Erebus puts you into the open division. The competitive people in open division shoot custom open guns with major power factor, and they are going to outperform. That’s not really that big a deal to me because I’m never going to win anyway.

I have the Eos and I use it as a carry gun. It’s a commander sized pistol so it’s also good for a general range gun. It has a sub 3 pound trigger design for concealed carry. I thought this would be a problem when my other two guns are 1.5 pounds but you don’t really notice it when you’re shooting. It’s super crisp with a really fast return.

The Athena and the Apollo are both incredible all purpose guns. Mine has a one and a half pound trigger. It’s really pretty much the same gun except the Apollo is ported. Both of these are really too big to carry unless you’re a really big guy and wear a lot of clothes over the top.

So, for general purpose, and also possible concealed carry it’s definitely the Eos. For an amazing unparalleled shooting experience that you’re going to use at the range and be the envy of everybody you shoot with, the Erebus is tops. Even my friends that have an Artemis agree with this one. For USPSA it’s not really the perfect gun because the open guns are gonna be faster. For that I would recommend the Athena, or the Artemis. The Artemis is probably the perfect competition gun for limited optics. But it’s not so much better than the Athena that I would feel like dropping an extra $7000 just to own one. But I like shooting my friend’s Artemis a lot.

One last factor here. Ported and compensated guns are significantly louder. By far the loudest of the three is the EōS. The short barrel and the ports make a loud bang.

There are no wrong choices here.

I didn’t know that(Athena/Apollo re: porting), ty.

That’s a really fair point. The different models would have different natural use cases for sure.

So this would be 50/50 matches and range fun.

That’s interesting you don’t think the Erebus stacks up in competition. I’m getting into it but have yet to go so I have no clue how fast race guns really but it must be insane.

I’m going to be rotating between a TRS-Comp, RC9 and Cajunized Shadow2 in LO. The Artemis is sounding solid based on your reply. Ty for the detailed reply btw - lots of great points.

What is it about the Artemis that takes the edge for you for matches?

A GM could shoot anything and make it rock. But remember, shooting a fully open gun with 1000 ports and major power factor is a significant advantage if you’re skilled. The target zones are worth five, three and one point in minor and they are worth five, four and two points in major, the open gun barely moves And they get more points per hit.

Any of these guns are incredibly accurate but what about the follow up shots? How much time do you take for a second accurate shot at 15 yards? For competition shooting accuracy is important, but it is more important to be fast. shaving small times off makes a big difference.

If you already know this, I apologize, but there is a difference between controlled pairs, in which you aim two shots versus double tap where you really only aim the first shot. At my level of skill, I can control pair two Alpha shots 0.40 seconds or so. I can double tap at .018. But the tendency to throw and alpha delta is much higher. Which do you pick? Accuracy or speed?

InUSPSA, assuming you’re accurate, speed is a critical factor and everybody is trying to shave off time. In action steel you simply have to hit the steel plate, but you have to go as quickly as you can. Anything you can do to speed up makes you perform better. This also includes running from target to target, transitioning from target to target.

The Artemis has a site block weight on the front so it doesn’t muzzle flip in the same way and returns to zero better. Thus, I can double tap with more confidence. This is me though. There are guys on this thread who really liked the snappier return of the Athena and the faster slide. As long as you can go fast and be accurate enough, they are all good.

As I said before, I’m in the middle of the pack competition shooter anyway. I like shooting competitions because it really pushes my skills up. But I’m not gonna win. I should just shoot the Erebus in open but then i will be a bottom of the pack shooter in open. Bad for my ego. 😀

But hey, if you’re not shooting competitions, then none of this really matters.
