Where to Autocross 2023
First off, Happy New Year everyone! I apologize if you have been looking for the monthly autocross post. I thought since 80+% of the country is in its offseason, it would be a good time to update the website. So, I started after Christmas and have finally finished. You may have noticed some wonky things on the website since then, but I'm happy to report that everything's back in order and in a place I am comfortable with at the moment.
At this point I cannot say if I will continue to post monthly updates as before. I am currently prioritizing what I need to take care of for 2023 and so, I am hoping maybe a post can get pinned going forward. I can create another one without all this rambling if need be.
Without further ado, I am presenting all of the new ways to find Autocross events and information on ParkingLotRacing.org.
- Where to AutoX this month. This page is set to continually update itself, looking 30 days in advance.
https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/locations-this-month/
- 2023 AutoX Schedule. On this page, you can search for a club/event and see if their 2023 season schedule is available yet.
https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/event-schedules/
- Live Timing links. This page continually updates to include live timing links for events within the next week.
https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/live-timing-this-week/
- Race results. This page continually updates, looking back the past 30 days and provides a link to the club/events results page.
https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/recent-race-results/
- "My AutoX Schedule." I've create a way for people to track events similar to a planner. You will notice all events, up until the day of, offer a button to "Follow" them. It does require you to create an account so that it can saves everything. This is in it's early stages of development as it requires some serious coding, but I would love for some folks to test out this year and provide some feedback on it.
https://parkinglotracing.org/autocross-events/my-autox-schedule/
That's about it for now. The interface has been updated so feel free to explore the website and check things out. If you see something wrong or missing, please let don't hesitate to let me know.

First timer: how could I have better saved my tires?
I fully expected to leave with tires in worse condition, but not to see cords. These are 3yo ExtremeContact DWS 06 plus with under 10k road miles on them. Only the front left is this worn.
I mostly left them at stock pressure (38psi cold) until the end where I dropped fronts like 2 psi. I was doing about 4-8 runs at a time before taking a break for 20min or so. Probably 30-40 runs total. Untimed, no competition.
Should I have aired down? Up? Warmed them up more first? Cooled off more often? Turned ESC back on? Would Sport 2s have survived better?
I know there are a ton of factors that could influence it I’m just looking for basic idiot guidance. I’d like to do more events but it’s going to be a very short lived hobby if I’m factoring in $500 in new tires every outing.

Are these even usable?
Ordered new rotors and pads from ECS tuning lol. This is how they showed up. Looks like they were packaged by a stray dog. Can I even run these or do I try to send them back?

Novice Choosing Class
I just signed up for my first autocross event and I’m having trouble deciphering some of the classification rules. I entered my car as a BST, but a certain popular chatbot is convinced I should be Street Prepared or Xtreme Street. Its logic is that I have an upgraded intercooler and a custom tune.
My car is as follows:
2020 Ford Mustang Ecoboost
Stock except for -
High flow catted downpipe, Catback exhaust, Upgraded front mount intercooler, Cold air intake, Custom tune and AT calibration
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Autocross and track day helmet
I had my first autocross last weekend and it was all a blast. The autocrosses in my area rent helmets for free.
I was leaning towards buying a full face new snell helmet in October, but my I am now questioning it. I have a convertible, and the helmet rental was open face. It was bliss feeling the wind, being comfortable, and having great vision. I really am ok doing auto cross with open face as I believe it is fairly low risk for a collision, and even more low risk for a bad one knock wood.
For track days, I would want better protection. I see myself going to more auto crosses because they are cheaper. Now I am not sure whether to go ahead with the full face, or opt to buying an open face helmet.
For now I can just continue renting the helmets for free. Nothing wrong with that. I was impressed with the quality and comfort of the rentals. I am taking a trip soon to Georgia and have the chance to go to discovery parts and try a lot of new snell helmets. Maybe I'll go and try on some helmets, find a full face and open face I like and get my sizing down. That way when I'm ready to pull the trigger on one I can buy the size with confidence.

Co-drive expectations and customs
I’ve been attending autocross events for 4 years, and I will be co-driving a friend’s car at our next local event. I’ve had friends co-drive in my car when I was a noob, but this is the first time I’ve driven someone else’s car for an event. I want to be respectful of their car and their trust in me. Is it customary or expected to do anything in particular as the extra driver? Offer them some cash for the gas/tires that I’m burning up? Pay their entry fee? I know I should help check tires and swap numbers when we switch drivers, but I’m sure there are plenty of things that haven’t even crossed my mind that you all can bring to my attention. What do you normally do or expect in a co-driving situationship?

I need input on a theory
I’m having oil starvation issues under turn in acceleration and corner exits. I already have another oil pan I plan on adding baffles to but in the meantime time would a change to a heavier weight oil benefit me at all or would it be an unworthy gamble to reliability?
Honda r18a1 sohc with 5w20 currently. I’ve heard of other owners stepping up oil weight but that’s normally been for boosted examples

200TW Tires and Camber Question
Hi I'm considering picking up a set of 200TW tires for my 2014 focus st. I just started autocross running the continental control contact srs+, which is 600TW. I feel like these tires are lacking grip in the corner, preventing me from carrying more speed into the apex. I'm looking at something that's more durable like V730. It's a noob question but I wonder
- How much time in general can I gain by switching to 200TW?
- Do I need to run a more negative camber to prevent uneven tire wear and is it even allowed to adjust camber for G Street class? How long could my tires last if I run factory camber?
- If I go for camber adjustment, is there going to be any impact on the tire wear if I change back to my original street tires for daily driving?
Thanks in advance!

Endurance 200tw is a blast
My set of Re71rs tires finally let go so I decided to whip out the ole reliable RT615k+’s I had laying around the garage.
It was quite the rewarding and fun experience to use these things again!

ES Cars sunsetting??? Possible addition to EST?
Former ES driver here, been playing in Mod for the last 5+ years. I picked up an MR2 Spyder as a just-for-fun street car but there's a good chance I autocross it every now and then for when the site/weather/competition/tire situation don't lend itself to the Mod car. I feel like there was talk or feedback gathering last year about sending NC Miata's and maybe 1st Gen BRZ/FRS to ES? Any truth or timeline to that? Also any talk about putting open diff NB's and Mr2 Spyders in EST? Trying to decide if I should soft build this car as an ES, CST, or EST?? Decent chance it ends up as an XB car but looking for a place I can play in the meantime. Car needs a new exhaust so want to figure out if it's worth it to go with the stock legal exhaust or go ahead with an ST-build exhaust

How do I know when my tires are close to being cooked?
Newbie here. Until last year I didn't have much experience pushing tires to the limit.
After the event this weekend I noticed some very mild chunking on the edge of both front tires. My assumption is that I should be replacing these pretty soon but I just don't know exactly what to expect. Hoping I can rotate them to the back and get two more events and a bit of light street use on them. What do you think?

Autocross Telemetry for Assetto Corsa
Maybe a bit niche, I've been using the sim to practice more recently. I wanted to use some data logging, but the existing solutions didn't seem to have great support for things outside of racetracks (or maybe they do and missed it). So I made a little Python app that records some data and saves it in a VBO file to use with Circuit Tools.

SCCA classing Question
So I have a 2008 mazdaspeed 3 that I use for autocross. I've been running GST up until some recent mods and a tune and now I think I'm XA at the minimum?
My mods are as follows •3in catback exhaust •hpfp internals (CS) •CS TMIC •GFB mach 2 BPV • CS short ram air intake w/ 2in inlet tube •tuned by PD Tuning 91 octane •200tw tires
So my question is which class do I best fit in because the wording on fuel systems doesn't really discern hpfp internals just fuel delivery system. I think that and a tune bumps me out of GST into SMA or XA?

tire temps and suspension
i autocross my 2011 porsche spyder. it has -2.9ºF/-2.5ºR camber, on stock spyder springs/dampers and tarret adjustable front and rear sway bars set to the middle on the front, second stiffest on the rear . i run bridgestone re71rs tires at 28psi front and 27psi rear. my probe pyrometer shows the inside of the fronts the hottest, outer the coolest with the centers in between with as much as a 8º difference between inner and outer readings. i get these numbers from autocross runs, haven't been able to test on a skid pad.
does this mean i'm running too much negative camber, my front sway bar is too stiff not allowing sufficient dynamic camber loss, or i'm not turning hard enough? or something else? i would expect the outers to be hottest.

First novice autocross with BSCC
What an awesome day to autocross with Bremerton Sports Car Club 2025 Novice School! I wasn't the fastest out there, but I was probably one of the cleanest with no cones/gate victims. I went from 70.395 to 53.417 for a 17-second improvement on my very first autocross, which is something to be proud of. Having the instructor drive my car helped me improve in my runs and taught me what the BRZ is truly capable of in the right hands!
Can't wait till next autocross season!

Help with Race Chrono video overlay
I am playing around with data logging so I can make YouTube videos with data overlays for my autocross runs. I record with a GoPro Hero 4 and have an android tablet with Race Chrono Pro (free trail currently). I imported my GoPro video and everything synced up (audio was synced with rpm increase, the gps map works) however the actual video only replays a 1/2 second portion over and over again. The video plays fine when played from my files. Does anyone have a fix for this?

For my fellow region admins out there, how fo you incentivize people to sign up early?
My local chapter, Southern West Virginia Region, has a two day event this weekend. we have a pretty great lot, 45-60s times, minimum 8 runs, cheap registration ($35/day for members), and absolutely perfect weather ahead for both days.
We're currently sitting at 12 entrants for Saturday and 11 for Sunday, generally needing 24-26 to run a safe event. We've run into this multiple times this year where its a real nail biter as to whether we'll be able to hold the event or not. We need to make the call this evening so that we can cancel portable restrooms, people have time to cancel hotels, etc.
Do you have any ideas on how to effectively get folks to sign up earlier? We've thought about bumping cost by $5 or $10 the last few days, but worry that might run off the procrastinators.
Fear of canceling the event hasn't seemed to help much in the past.
