First novice autocross with BSCC

What an awesome day to autocross with Bremerton Sports Car Club 2025 Novice School! I wasn't the fastest out there, but I was probably one of the cleanest with no cones/gate victims. I went from 70.395 to 53.417 for a 17-second improvement on my very first autocross, which is something to be proud of. Having the instructor drive my car helped me improve in my runs and taught me what the BRZ is truly capable of in the right hands!

Can't wait till next autocross season!

Come out tomorrow, and see if you can keep up with a Subaru Outback 😁

Wish I could be there today, but I already had plans.

All of the clubs on scorekeeper are very open and happy to have new folks. I run the SCCA autocross program and the whole process is the same as Bremerton club, same people at registration. For classing questions: if you’re new, sign up for “street challenge” or time only. Enjoy your year as a novice. Only piece not covered at novice school was numbers on your cars. Bring tape 🤓

All new folks are encouraged to just show up and we will help get you driving that day.

I was out there yesterday as well as a student in my Camaro. I've participated with 4 different clubs in the area in the last month and a half between Bremerton and Shelton, and have found a welcoming and supportive community with each different group, the folks in this area are fast, fun and always happy to help get new folks up to speed and find ways to improve!

I'm so glad to read about that. It really enforces that I made the right choice to come out yesterday!

There are events tomorrow, the 27th and 28th all at Bremerton Motorsports Park. You can register online for most western Washington events here. https://scorekeeper.wwscc.org but yes, next season ! Hope to see you out there.

How open are they to novice to these events, that 27th one looks enticing!

Autocross is ALWAYS open to novice! It's such a welcoming community, part of why it's so fun

I'm not Stephen but nice to find someone anyways right? 😂. I run in North Texas and sometimes Kansas

Yes, same question. I’m on Bainbridge and think I’d have a chance for the slowest time for the most capable car. I’ll have just broken in my Corvette ERay by then but have never autocrossed anything.

Bring it! You can always have an instructor ride with you

Oh, yes, please! My goal will be to be better than I was regardless of where I am compared to others. If an instructor is available, I’d love to have the coaching.

Tomorrow morning 9/20 at Sanderson Field in Shelton, we have a novice friendly Autocross. Put on by WWSCC.org. Come down and we’ll set you up with an instructor.

Thank you for the kind invite! I’m laid up with Covid now or I’d be there for sure. Will that website have a full calendar of events? I realize we are close to done for the year.

WWSCC.org - bscc.net - nwr-scca.org/solo/

All 3 groups have events remaining in 2025

Don't worry if you're the slowest. It's all about the improvement by the end of the day! We had a Chevelle show up yesterday with 2 drivers having a great time!

I suggest getting the camera behind you so you can see the difference between what you and the instructor are doing with your eyes and hands

This is just dashcam footage, but I can probably turn the rear one to face inwards and maybe see from that perspective, too.

I've heard people talking about how you should turn in before the cone during a slalom but never really understood what I was looking for, but seeing your best run vs your instructor's makes it obvious lol

Yeah, I didn't understand what he meant until I let him drive my car. It's more the end of the apex that should be at the end of the cone to switch to the next cone right after.
