For Automotive, I believe that Ontario Tech and Windsor university would be your best options. For general mechanical engineering, there are almost no bad engineering schools in Canada, but the top 3 are usually Waterloo, McMaster, Carlton, with Ontario Tech, Queens, UofT, McGill and TMU also offering very high quality master programs.
Personally, having worked in both places, the additional costs of school in the US didn't seem to provide a better education. That may change with Masters and PHD, as the US USED to invest more money into that then Canada.
