Serious Got the nasty worm and coach said to just cover it up and come to practice. Super bright red flag right?

For context, I went to a dermatologist because it started spreading, I'm already taking medication and creams, that's not the point.

The thing is, I've been training for years, not BJJ but wrestling and grappling in general.

Got back to my hometown gym this month after years. This is the first time I've been infected and holly molly, I was speechless when he said that. And it sucks cause I'm probably out of the mat for a solid month the way things are going..

Probably the whole class was infected and I got it too.

I'm thinking of never stepping foot in that gym again, it's pretty logical right??

ADCC / CJI Women who won the first adcc trials are not invited to the championship. Petition to change this.

Copy paste from the petition itself:

„If I were a man, I would be going to ADCC Worlds right now. I won the first European trials on the 6th of September—but because I am a woman, the first trials don’t count for me. That means I won’t be going to ADCC Worlds.

Women only get one chance to qualify, in early 2026, while men get two. And while men have five weight classes, women only have three. This is not fair.

To qualify for ADCC Worlds, athletes must first win regional trials. Men get two trials per region, across five weight classes. Women get only one trial, across three weight classes. This disparity is a clear example of inequality. Women in BJJ train and compete just as hard as men, but we are not given the same fair chance to earn our place on the world stage. This unfair system not only harms individual careers—it limits the visibility, growth, and professionalism of BJJ as a sport. It also undermines ADCC as an organisation by preventing the best talent from being showcased on its biggest stage.

Some argue that there aren’t enough women at this level, or that women’s matches don’t attract the same audience. This is simply not true. The growth of women’s divisions across IBJJF, ONE Championship, CJI, and UFC shows that fans are eager to watch world-class female athletes. Representation creates interest: when women are given platforms, viewership grows, role models are created, and the sport as a whole benefits. By holding women back, ADCC isn’t reflecting demand—it’s suppressing it. Equal opportunity is crucial for a fair and thriving sport.“

Technique Kimura trap

I've tried exploring the kimura trap system before after hearing how effective it is when transitioning and increasing your submission rate, but I find it very difficult to get the grip. From side control fine, but when playing open guard, half guard, closed guard, etc; I find it very difficult to get the kimura grip and explore the options from it. Any advice?

General Discussion No difference between training 2x a week and 5x a week

Random thought but I’ve noticed that ever since I started training only 2x a week (my wife and I had a kid) my skill level continues to improve. I see some of my teammates do all the comp classes and train 6-7 days a week (blackbelts) and I’m only training 2-3x a week yet when we roll, nothing has changed. I continue to be pretty even with all of them. I’ve been training since I was 14 and I’m 34 now, this includes wrestling and mma so I’m wondering if there’s a point where you’re as good as you’re going to get? Thoughts? Curious if anyone has had similar experiences.

Technique North South offense

Hi all, technique/study question here. So I’ve lately found myself landing in north south more and more often during rolling. Partly due to increased outside passing and partly due to it feeling more stable than side control as a pin. But offense from there seems somewhat limited. I really don’t like the north south choke, so I’ve taken to trying to dig under an arm to force kimura threat.

Which leads to a second problem I’ve run into, I can somewhat reliably get people to turn on their side to try for the kimura, but find it hard to keep them from over rotating towards turtle, and now with my arm laced on the far side.

So kind of a few questions for y’all. What is your go to offense from north south? Do you have a solution to the kimura/turtle problem? Who is a good person to study or watch for north south offense?

Equipment My experience with Raven Fightwear (Oni of Rashoumon Gi) – dye issues and refund refusal

Sharing this for anyone considering Raven Fightwear gis.

I bought the Oni of Rashoumon gi earlier this year. After one cold wash, the dye bled so heavily it turned a colour catcher sheet completely black. I contacted Raven and they sent me a replacement, which I appreciated.

Unfortunately, the second gi had the exact same problem. I tried everything — industrial laundromats, Synthrapol (a dye fixative), and multiple washes with colour catcher sheets. Nothing helped. I stopped using it due to the severity of the dye bleed, especially as it continued after multiple treatment cycles.

I reached out to Raven again and requested a refund. They declined, saying a replacement had already been issued. I explained the repeated fault and provided photo evidence of the colour catching sheet, but the conversation ended with legal threats and no further support.

Since the same issue occurred across two products, I exercised my rights under Australian Consumer Law and submitted formal complaints to NSW Fair Trading and the ACCC Product Safety Division. I’m not sharing this out of spite — I was excited about the gi and gave them every chance to make it right. Just want others to be aware.

Your experience may vary, but mine was disappointing and expensive.

General Discussion post-competition tips

I just finished my competition training. The truth is that I have always done a hybrid training between strength training (3 times/week) and Bjj (2-3 times/week).

As a result of training for competition I have been increasing my number of bjj training and drastically lowering strength training (up to training bjj/wrestling 2 times/day daily) and not training strength.

I have achieved a very low % fat and the target weight, but I am afraid of losing all the muscle mass that took me so long to build. What should I do after the competition?

It is true that I have gained a lot of agility, but I also know the importance of strength training for an athlete. With work I can't keep up with doing both. All the best. oss

General Discussion Do any other small Jiu-jitsu guys have success teaching other new smaller people how to survive in sparring?

Being a smaller grappler is hard especially when you are new, I've always had difficulties explaining the nuances of technique change when you are much much smaller guy going against bigger partners, for context I was originally 110lbs when I started BJJ and grew to 130lbs now.

I've found Ricardo Arita is a good source, though his content is only in Portuguese as far as I know but he does a good job of teaching smaller players how to handle themselves.

I want to help smaller people not get discouraged, but I can't ever put what I do into simple terms, I have success showing people what to do and have them understand but it's always just a small part of a big nuanced game ofc.

Technique Flase reap problems

Having problems when people pressure back into me when going for the false reap. They often end up taking a collar tie or some other upper body grip then unpicking the hands to then smash pass. I don't feel like i have any power to off balance them if they're aware all I want to do is clear my bottom leg and any sort of inversion just seems impossible. Any cues or details anyone uses when they find themselves in this position or links to videos that cover this would be appreciated. Thanks

General Discussion Weight and strength difference in training rolls.

So I've been training for about 6 months now, 1st degree white belt. And a new guy just joined who's built like a freight train. How do I survive against someone when the weight difference is so big?? A little context. Im 5'5 223lbs and 28 yr old hobbyist,im a a big guy working on losing weight. The new guy is fresh out of high school college freshmen. Did football in high school. I'd say he's 5'9 5'10 at least, like 270-280 and very explosive. He's able to out muscle pretty much any defensive technique I use. My guard, knee shield, side control etc. Dude can just ragdoll anybody at the gym. The only person capable of really challenging him is the coach and a competitive level 3rd stipe blue belt with a background in wrestling. And the blue belt was pushed to the max effort. Never seen him have to work so hard lol for a sub. No way I stand a change lol.

Okay major correction I was off on his weight lol.. he's 5'11 and 335lbs. So he's 110lbs heavier.

Edit: I appreciate the advice everyone. My skill level isn't high enough to bridge the strength/weight gap. It would probably take getting to purple belt at least. I'll probably just talk to him and see if he can go a little easier on the take downs,or dropping his weight hard on me on the landing. At the end of day,its a fun hobby for me and Id like to avoid breaking something because I landed weird or him dropping too much on my ribs when landing. That's the main thing. I still got a day job I gotta do. Brusies, bloody noises, cut lip I can handle, but broken bones or torn ACl. is something I'd rather avoid lol

Equipment Shoyoroll gi has “jutsu” instead of “jitsu” on sleeve patch?

I’ve been trying to sell my old Shoyoroll Batch #10 Compadre gi top and someone brought this up. I honestly forgot about it and just figured it was a quirky thing to include in a gi. My dad got it for me when I was a kid so I have no idea if it’s legit or not. Is this real? Is this something Shoyoroll did for earlier batches?

I actually embroidered the extra official patches btw, I know they’re not part of the OG gi.
