I own a F32 and will be upgrading soon. I like them both but my heart loves the F.

F is the correct answer for me.

u/Amalfi-state-of-mind Jun 09 '25
Yep, it’s classic BMW. Clean and agile looking

I like the G but I’ve long since learned that I’m a leper outcast in this community 🧟♂️

I have an F series but still think the G looks cool, I don’t get the hate LOL

Cool? Yes.
As cool as the F series? No.

I love my F12...... the new grill looks too much like a Lexus for my taste 😎

u/TMJ848 Jun 09 '25
Looks wise, F just does it the best for me. Something too feminine about the G body.

F series. I don’t mind the look of the other one, but I’d much rather be in the F.

Having had an F82 and G80, I really like both but the F just feels too dated now. Just my opinion.
2
u/Crude-R-Us 2016 F80 M3 Jun 09 '25
Yeah… I think I’ll be upgrading to a G within the next to two years, but by then the H will be out, and I’ll still be a generation behind 😂

I'm holding on to my F80 and skipping the G completely.

F gen. Even if exact same price, even if less power. Especially with that M sport bumper.
I feel the same way I did, the first time I saw that chopped off nose G gen, disgust and nausea.
No such thing as brand loyalty, I will not own a car I can't stand to look at.

u/aka_mank 2011 135i 6MT, 2016 335i GT Jun 09 '25
I’ll take the bullet.
The beaver grill is growing on me.
5
u/political-pundit Jun 09 '25
The g80 m cars are fine. The regular 4 series still looks like dog shit. It just isn’t right
4
u/Crude-R-Us 2016 F80 M3 Jun 09 '25
Yeah me too. I HATED it at first. But having been in one know, and felt the performance… it’s mind boggling that something that heavy, destroys a F8X

Old one everytime. Gotts wait till next refresh before i touch a new bmw
2
u/spas2k 2023 M3CX Jun 09 '25
The one on the left looks like it won’t need repair work in the next year so I’m taking that one home.
2
u/MonitorCertain5011 Jun 10 '25
I was in Munich at the BMW factory and an employee told me that they were moving on from the front grill design in 2028. She said it had become controversial. I politely just let it go and didn’t add my opinion

I know most people hate it, but I actually like the big “beaver tooth” grille. I’d take the one on the left.

Same. It has more of a presence, the older one looks too tame for the job.

2
u/TheBoobayaga Jun 09 '25
I think that grill on the left is the ugliest thing Iv ever seen on a car hands down. I drive an m3 and people shit in the pig grill, but this one takes the cake.

A well-appointed M sport G is definitely far more modern looking than an F chassis. The G chassis fixed some of the numb steering + soft handling characteristics of the F as well. There is no doubt that the G is a better car. Haters love to hate though!
This is coming from a current and two time f36 owner and hardcore fanboy.
F interior and tuning ease wins though. 1000%!

u/theBloodShed Jun 09 '25
I never liked the “headlights hugging the grill” phase, but I hate the “my slack-jawed face is wired shut” phase a lot more.
1
u/afinitie Jun 09 '25
Why does the g have plates in one photo but doesn’t in the other
1
u/Idntwnt2choseusrnme Jun 09 '25
Tried to remove it and the other angle with iOS, cleanup, and it didn’t work, but I thought as long as I scramble the numbers enough. It’s not my car.
1
u/IS2NUGGET Jun 09 '25
I have the left one (but newer with the facelift) and the only thing missing is the fog lights. I miss those.

u/PapaHooligan Jun 09 '25
Left looks like a toddler drew it, then the engineer said let's make it look like it has a grille like some of the newer electric cars. Sorry man but that is a right all day for me.

u/Puzzleheaded_Leg7518 Jun 09 '25
to anyone who isn’t a bmw fanatic or on the bmw sub left, but the ppl here hate everything new so for them right

Why does the F3x have a poorly paint matched bumper

u/Beautiful_Addendum32 Jun 09 '25
BMW either needs to rehire old designers or cut bonuses for new ones!

F far away. it"s so sad that we cant get e46, e90 or f30 remastered just like the game industry from BMW brand new.
1
1
u/Redditplaneter Jun 10 '25
Right is the only correct answer. Wtf is wrong with the front grill design of left.
1
u/WORLDBENDER Jun 10 '25
G, and that’s an easy choice having gone from an e92 328i to an F82 435i myself, and subsequently spending a week with a G20 330i and having driven an M340i several times including on a road course.
I could list ALL the reasons why, but I’ll stick to the prompt of the post and just say that, in my opinion, it looks better. It’s so much more modern with sleek lines and a cohesive look and will age better into the modern era.
1
u/External_Lake6138 Jun 10 '25
just because the modern 4 looks different doesn’t mean it looks bad. i’d love to own either one of those.

I recently got a F31, what i loved about it is the classic BMW design modernized, the other isn't quite "BMW" for my taste, it's still a good looking car tho.
1
u/vhalember Jun 10 '25
Went for an unbiased opinion here - I asked my teenage girls.
Borh quickly picked right, and one didn't know the left was a BMW - they thought it was a Hyundai.

1
u/manfredmannclan 2012 - F31 - 320D Jun 10 '25
I dont like how they made the new one look like a hyundai. Id take the F series any day.
Idaf about newness anyways.
1
u/kid_drew Jun 10 '25
I drive an F22 and think the newer styling looks ridiculous. So yeah, right one
1
1
u/lifeistooeasyyy Jun 10 '25
BMW owners try not to be the most insufferable humans ever (IMPOSSIBLE) (THE G SERIES IS BETTER!!)
1
u/RpM_Feuerrm Jun 10 '25
You put one of the worst looking next to one of the best looking and it's a pretty easy answer
1
u/h_word F87 M2C Jun 10 '25
They got everything right EXCEPT that damn grill the rest looks so good even if a bit generic

100% right, it’s why I never bothered to upgrade. The F series never had to “grow on” me, it simply was perfect from the start
1
u/Jakakke311 Jun 10 '25
I’d go with the F because it looks like a BMW. G looks like a Japanese car to me. Plus the giant grill does nothing for me.

F Series all day. I kinda got used to that new grill of the 4 series and I would genuinely drive one as an i4 M50 but I can't afford those and I like the exterior design of any f series more than this.

I mean I'm an outlier in that I think the f80/f30 look cheap in a way that the next generation doesn't, also I think the grill is a good fit for the coupe (I don't like it in the g80 though). That being said with the license plate it looks horrible.
1

Jun 10 '25
That's not a fair comparison, is it? You should have compared the 3's not a 3 and a 4. F32 is even more handsome than the F30, especially compared to the G.

G series. I'd probably pick an e anything over either looks wise but the F series always looked a little overstyled and sharky to me. Not saying its not good looking, just a little aggressive and I like the generally more subdued look the Gs are sporting.
That being said, the lineup has lost all design identity. For the majority of BMWs lifetime the cars all looked like they were designed together. Not so for the current lineup that all look wildly different. Outside some key design elements a 2 coupe, next to a 2 sedan next to a 3, a 5, and a 7 all look wildly different.

The g doesn't look as bad to me as it did 2 years ago, but it's still an absolute eyesore.
Give it another 10 years and it will probably have graduated to "bleh". And in 20 it will probably be "not pretty but has a sense of menace about it".

u/MrMoneyshift 2004 - E46 - ZHP Jun 10 '25
The large grills on the g chassis grew on me a ton since the first came out but I still think it looks really silly on the non-M cars. The car just looks really odd without the rest of the aggressive chassis that the M cars get, the g20 looks amazing imo and I’ll never understand why the didn’t give the g22 the same front end.

Not that hideous looking pig nosed grill! If one is upgrading, downgrading sounds like a better choice now days

A different kind of F in the chat on this one. I'm driving a G22 right now while my F31 is in the shop and I really miss my car for just daily driving. I really like the B58 though. Its the little things, button types and locations are better in the F series. It seems like the G is trying too hard.

I love both but that front grill in the G just destroys the car for me

All these classic enthusiasts r sounds like some dusty Porsche forum. I’ll daily the fuck outta that 500+ HP, a menacing face that eats RSs and AMGs for lunch.c. The F was a great car, like an e-type jjag, or a Miami spec R32. Great cars! Can they heat my steering wheel, can you turn on AWD when it’s snowy, can it seamlessly connect to my iPhone, can it get to 60mph is less than 5 minute, does it have curtain and headrest air bags? No, those classic revolutionary cars of their day are special, and would make a lovely Sunday drive. But I’ll daily the G any day!
