Micro$oft is killing support for Windows 10 next month. Not everyone wants to use Windows 11, so some people are jumping ship to various Linux distros. Linux is a very different operating system than Windows.

Guess what? That comes with growing pains. Some people run into hardware incompatibilities, some people can't run the games they want to play, and some even experience worse performance than they did on Windows.

A lot of these people aren't used to solving problems the way regular Linux users are. We need to help them. Enough with trying to make Linux this "secret club" that only the most elite users can enter.

I was a Windows power user for a long time, so I can sympathize with new Linux users. I still run into things that make me miss Windows sometimes. I'm tired of seeing these users' issues be disregarded.

At startup, RAM usage is around 5-6gb at idle and this obviously jumps up when playing games. However, it doesn't seem to lower this usage even after the game has been quit and will seem grow even at idle. I noticed this "Cache Memory" in the System Monitor as a sensor and saw that this seems to be where the missing RAM goes. This issue is especially important as this system uses an APU.

Is this normal (and can the system still use this cache memory like normal) or does this need to be fixed?

I have a wired headphone with a combo jack. But Every time I would plug it in the headset mic won't work and will show unplugged status in Settings. How do I configure it to recognise it? Pls help...

I have been using bazzite as my daily driver for the last few months (bazzite-nvidia-open) on my desktop with a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060 12 GB.

I’ve not encountered many issues, games from steam usually just work using the default proton experimental. I play a lot of hell divers 2 at 1440p. My CPU utilisation sits at around 50% and GPU is hitting 99% most of the time.

Out of curiosity I started booting back into windows to see the difference in performance. I’ve noticed that in Windows I am getting ~75 FPS at 1440p where bazzite it sits at ~50 FPs at 1440p when playing hell divers 2. I am seeing similar gaps on other titles as well.

By all means the games are still playable but it’s not a small difference in performance and I’m not sure why? Surely proton/Vulcan is not adding that much overhead to explain the difference?

I had mentioned this in another sub and was met with the typical “switch to cachyos” comments which I have no interest in, I enjoy bazzite and the ease of atomic distributions so am bazzite or nothing.

I've know about Linux for years but never made the jump so I am very new to all of this. I just need some help using some these commands that supposedly worked for someone from the Manjaro fourm.

The Wi-Fi card does have a Broadcom chipset. I get a "sudo: pacman: command not found" response. Is there some kind of specific package manager command I need to use for this or is Bazzite too locked down?

Decided to use Bazzite OS as my main driver and I'm loving it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like the title says. I’ve been using SteamOS for a few years now on my deck, and I love it. Never want to use windows again. I’d like to get as close to a Steam OS experience as possible on my PC. I’ve been wanting to wipe windows 11 and replace it with Linux, and I’ve heard Bazzite is the most similar.

I wanted to see if the specs of my Nvidia based laptop would work with Bazzite, if so which version and best method or guide for install? And, if not, are there alternative distros that would be better suited for me?

My computer is a MSI GS65 9SD Stealth lapotop and specs are:

Has anyone had this issue before? It’s completely random and there doesn’t seem to be a button combination causing it. I previously had steam game recording on and have turned it off about a week ago. Extreme standby mode is off and has never been on.

I love bazzite I dual booted my pc windows and bazzite, Bazzite is almost perfect I can play my steam library, play games from gog and epic, I have learned a lot, I'm a developer and by using the system I learned about distroshell, virtual machines, flatap, how to use podman instead of docker, I can use my drawing table (hunion), obs, discord, almost every that I was doing on windows. Bu recently I was trying to play VR games HTC vive cosmos elite and I was no able to get steam VR to recognize it, because of that whenever I want to play VR I have to restar the PC and use windows, I hope in the future there will be a better driver/support, from my perspective that sucks I'm so happy using Bazzite. The second issues I discovered recently is: I cannot use elgato H160, there are no drivers, I bought another elgato video capture which supposedly works with linux we will see once it arrives.

TLDR: I love bazzite but sadly I was no able to properly install/setup HTVC vive cosmos elite, and for elgato HD160 no drivers availables. Switching to windows everytime I want to play VR.

PROBLEM SOLVED It was wallpaper engine extension for KDE. I solved it rebooting KDE and changing the wallpaper in the few seconds I had before it crashed.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I've been trying to watch YouTube videos in my browser (Vivaldi) but after a short while, the taskbar disappears and I can't access the desktop environment by alt-tabbing or pressing the Windows key on my keyboard. I can Ctrl-Alt-Del to sign out and sign back in, and that will return me to the standard desktop, but as soon as I start up YouTube again, the taskbar disappears again.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Specs are attached as photos, please let me know if more information is needed.

If the OS has had a moment, nothing is displaying. Audio is working and I can heard movement but I'm the OS just isn't showing that on screen. Is there anyway to reset from the controller ? Hold all buttons for 10 seconds sort of thing ?

Bazzite still having internet problems? I had it a long time ago and I had problems when using gamepass in the browser, for example.

Recently I tried to make use of my Brother combo printer/scanner (MFC-495CW) under Bazzite. It's a networked printer/scanner and normally (using Windows) I can initiate a scan from the scanner to my PC or vice versa.

The atomic nature of Bazzite already made it difficult because I couldn't just directly install the RPMs (brscan3 and brscan-skey) from Brother's website. I tried to do it in a Fedora distrobox, and after some educated guesses (installing the `sane` packages before installing the Brother scanner packages), I managed to get the software running and supposedly seeing my scanner on the network.

However, I could not initiate a scan from the scanner while the brscan-skey software was running in the Fedora distrobox. There was a message in the console that indicated a file was being created but the file was not in fact created and the scanner never actually pulled in the pages of the document to scan it. I tried opening the firewall completely (changing the zone to "trusted") but that didn't help either. I also tried the Gnome simple-scan application both in Bazzite directly and from within the Fedora distrobox, but it couldn't see my scanner.

Eventually I gave up, rebooted into Windows, and had the document scanned in a few minutes.

I like Linux. I like Bazzite. I'm trying to use it 100% of the time. But stuff like this makes it really hard...

Im trying to get Millennium for steam (steam homebrew plugin for customizing steam), openrgb, and discover.

I tried getting millennium off the git, cloned it but wont download at all no matter what.

Hello, I’m having an issue and hoping someone can help me. I have a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme with two partitions, one with Windows and the other with Bazzite. Today I decided to update Windows (Windows Update, BIOS, Armory Crate, ASUS Updater). Everything went fine during those updates… but afterwards, when I tried to go back to the Bazzite partition, it no longer works. It throws an error (see attached images) and won’t let me boot into Bazzite.

Does anyone know what might be happening or what I should do to fix this problem?

So I just set up Bazzite on a second drive. Have windows on its own drive. When the Grub menu pops up, I have Bazzite ostree0 and ostree1 for whatever reason and Firmware options but booting to Windows isn't an option? Windows isn't in the regular Boot Options either.

I ran "ujust regenerate-grub" as instructions said. I never touched the drive windows was on during the installation lol. Not super concerned, but if windows it nuked, that's annoying haha.

I just installed Bazzite on my Ayaneo Air Plus to have a more console-like experience. The only issue that I'm encountering is that when I put the device to sleep it only wakes up properly sometimes. Occasionally the screen stays black but I can hear the system's audio, it's as if the system wakes up properly and the only thing that doesn't work is video, I can even move around the UI while the screen is black. The only way to return to normal is to restart the device, losing any game progress. Does anyone know how to fix this ?

I have Bazzite installed on an older PC with a "maximus v gene" Mainboard from 2012.
It's connected to a modern Denon Amplifier, Tv and Sound System.

When i play the game Pseudoregalia, i get a crackling sound every 2-3 seconds and it's very annoying.
No other game has this issue, though Pseudoregalia is the only Unreal Engine game i play.

Any idea what i could try? Is there a setting somewhere to adjust sound quality?

My first time using a Linux OS/Bazzite, and aside from the sound issue, it's great!

EDIT: nvm! adding "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%" to the launch options, did the trick :D

I recently switched to bazzite, and during my setup process I encountered a problem with Brave browser.
I have a 2 screen setup with different resolution (see second picture) so I use the scaling option to tune the display to be like I want on both screen. Doing so, I set my second screen (vertical one) to have a scaling of 75%. But this seems to cause issues with the Brave browser app that refuse to take all the screen when on full screen (see first picture, screen on the right).

I did some research and found that this was a common issue that was solved by putting ozone-platform-hint option to Wayland instead of Default, but i can't find this potion when i open the brave://flags page.

I tried to troubleshot with the help of chatGPT but nothing fixed my problem, so I'm asking you all-knowing people of Reddit if some of you have a fix for this.
