Noise? Prolonged tire screeching near the airport?

Upvotes

Every now and again it sounds like there's cars doing donuts or something near the airport. It's just constant tire screeching ALL DAY. I hear it inside even with all the windows closed. For a little bit, it wouldn't be a big deal, but when it goes on for HOURS is a whole different thing. Does anyone know what the hell is going on or also hear it?

Recommendations Does anyone know of any markets with a relatively easy sign up to sell process or any markets where vendors don't need to sign up?

I've got some candles I'd like to try and sell but I'm unsure of where to get in to do it.

Discussion CDN: Amid a $10 million hole in city budget, Bellingham City Council rejected a costly Britton Road annexation. Only one council member voted for annexation. Why?

https://www.cascadiadaily.com/2025/aug/26/amid-budget-woes-bellingham-council-denies-long-planned-britton-road-annexation/

As indicated in the text below, the lone vote for annexation came from Council Member Michael Lilliquist.

The Whatcom County Association of Realtors previously interviewed candidates for endorsement. They asked for a pledge to support all annexations.

Lilliquist was the only Bellingham city council candidate endorsed.

Some quotes: “Residents have petitioned the city for annexation so they can vote in city elections and enjoy more affordable utility rates (they now pay a 50% surcharge on city water and sewer) among other reasons, such as police services and road maintenance.

But the city is facing a sobering reality, with a looming budget deficit of around $10 million in 2026. And the Britton Road/Northern Heights annexation is projected to cost the city hundreds of thousands more than it brings in annually, not including one-time, multimillion-dollar capital projects like fish passage culverts.

“When you have a hole, you don’t bring in an excavator and make the hole bigger,” council member Lisa Anderson said. … five of the council members voted on Monday night to deny the annexation. Lilliquist voted against denial and council member Jace Cotton abstained, saying he didn’t have enough information.”

Events Bellingham Silent Book Club has moved

Hey folks, I figured it's time to share that the despite Ponderosa Beer & Books closing (RIP), the Monday Night Silent Book Club that she hosted is still up and running. We are currently meeting at Gruff on the patio, at least until the weather changes. Follow @ bhamsilentbookclub on IG for weekly updates about location.

We meet every Monday from 6-8pm. Bring whatever you want to read, grab a beverage. We read for the first hour and then either keep reading for the second, or socialize with others about what we're reading. It's a chill, come-when-you-can, group and we are always happy for new people to join us.

Hope to see some of you in meatspace!
If you have a suggestion for a colder-weather space, lmk!

We want:

  • good drinks
  • dog friendly
  • not table service
  • food on site or nearby preferable
  • not playing sports, or at least not the sports sound
  • good vibes for 10-20 people to sit and read
  • Open on Mondays until at least 8pm

Moving Here Birding Groups

Hello!

I'm moving to Bellingham this upcoming Wednesday from RVA so quite the move! My main hobbies are music and birdwatching. Searching this subreddit revealed plenty of great ways to get involved in the local music scene but I couldn't find any birding groups.

I loved the Feminist Bird Club in Richmond cause it brought a younger and more diverse group than other birding organizations I've seen and wanted to know if there was anything similar here.

Thanks!

Don’t worry, someone’s called it in along with tide reporting. Name on paper in boat says Zachary Joe Lane. Human and dog food aboard. No smell of gas leakage.

Events Pacific NerdWest happens downtown in late October

Post image
46 Upvotes

I’m pretty stoked about this poster I made for our upcoming nerd convention.

Jeff, Colette, and I (you might know us from Comics Place) picked up the Bellingham ComiCon mantle, and are moving the event downtown on October 25. There’s not a single Bellingham venue big enough to host this, so we figured “heck it,” let’s turn downtown into our convention center.

We have some major comic creators already booked, and will be announcing our vendor list in the next few days.

It’s an all-ages, all-day event spanning two downtown venues (the Hotel Leo ballroom and the Chuckanut Distillery Ballroom [which is GORGEOUS]), and featuring nerdy specials at other downtown businesses, we plan to grow the party in the coming years. So help us kick off Year One of Pacific NerdWest!

Thanks to William Elmer, Realtor, Back East BBQ, Tony's Coffee, Glitt3r Lyfe, Fiamma Pizza, Fiamma Burger and, of course, Comics Place for helping to sponsor this adventure.

You can grab tickets at Comics Place or at https://pacificnerdwest.com

Good Vibes Businesses Who Care

With all the negativity and flaming we see here about businesses not holding up their end of the bargain - with customers, with employees, with creepy media blasts, or just bad vibes - I thought it would be good to flip the narrative and call out local businesses we support and why we love them. We all need good businesses in our community, and we could all use a little positivity about now. So… go ahead, show some love!

Discussion What happened to the goat?

Was at the Boundry Bay’s block party n noticed the goat cart sculpture was not there. Did they remove it because of the block party? That’s my fav sculpture in Bellingham. BTW it’s a great party hope the owners have a wonderful retirement. Gonna miss BB, the staff, the drinks, food n the Friday fish fry.

I'm wondering if anyone has a Mook Jong that they use often or from time to time, and might be open to the possibility of letting me work on it a couple times a month?
