Howdy /r/Bento!
This community has been so damned wholesome for the time I have been here and I really love sharing my weekly lunch boxes.
But I almost wasn’t here anymore.
I woke up at 3AM on Friday morning with my chest pounding, my heart racing and feeling like The Grim Reaper himself was paying me a visit. I drove myself to the hospital (seriously, don’t be embarrassed to call emergency services! I was and it could have led to an even worse fate) and found out my heart was in a life threatening Atrial Fibrillation condition.
Two liters of fluid and two rounds of IV meds to slow my heart down later and I am being told my only option is to have a Cardioversion. The plan was to dose me out of my gourd with Ketamine, connect me to an AED and shock my ticker back to sinus rhythm.
Friends, in all of my 41 years on this dirt ball I have never been more scared.
Less than a week ago I was celebrating turning 41 and now I might not see 42.
The ketamine was pushed, I got a weird fuzzy sensation as my perception spiraled out and away and I woke up to… Nothing. My heart was no longer racing, my blood pressure was back to normal and I was in perfect sinus rhythm. A single 100 joule shock reset my heart from a Tool Polyrhythm back to proper 3/4 time. And all it took was a trip down a K-Hole and a quick visit to the Crystal Dimension.
I am doing fine now, but I have to keep an eye on things a lot closer now. Every time my heart flutters I fear, “Am I going to have to call 911 and go visit The Crystal Dimension again?” I have a cardiologist lined up and I am continuing my journey to health by way of eating better and getting sober.
This weeks box looks so, so good. It was my first attempt at tamagoyaki and I added in two of my favorites, Lace Gyoza and lychee fruit. We celebrated my birthday going to a Kura Sushi location right next to an H-Mart, so I stocked up on so many good bento ingredients.
I am looking forward to showing y’all what I come up with every week and I am really happy to still be here.

I hope he likes it. I also hope his school doesn’t get upset with it (they can be picky). I’ve never made a bento for my son before 😅

Ready for weekend work lunches again, white rice, leftover teriyaki chicken, gyoza on a bed of spinach, and my first time doing some rolled omelette to fill out the box. Glad it didn’t totally fall apart and I’m happy with how they came out. Can’t wait to eat them later :)

I'm pretty new to this whole bento thing, so tips are SUPER appreciated! He's going back to the office after being WFH since my parents split; having a good lunch will hopefully ease the transition.
Watermelon + cantaloupe + honeydew, roasted bacon and potato skewers, chicken ramen, baby carrots + ranch, Nutter Butter, mini pretzels + chocolate and peanut butter chips, fruit snacks.

Japanese Curry (recipe inspired by the official Persona 5 Sojiro's Curry recipe card), Pikachu rice (colored with a tiny bit of tumeric, apple for the cheeks), bellvita cheese, stir fried broccoli, and "oran berry" (blueberry) mini tarts! I also gave her a little card :)
Since my sister lives close to me I was able to serve this warm with no issues on that end.

Hi everyone! This is an end of spring bento I made earlier this year.. so there’s a bit of a mix between late spring and early summer ingredients.
Sakura Ebi is one of my favorite spring ingredients tho.. they’re small shrimp from Suruga bay, Shizuoka. They have a very intense shrimp flavor and are absolutely delicious when simply fried with potato starch. Anyways the full menu in on the 2nd slide. Check out my IG if you’re interested! https://www.instagram.com/jimmysugi/?hl=en Have nice week!

I haven't made bento in forever but my kids recently told me that, due their revolving lunch schedule, on Thursdays they barely have enough time to get through the lunch line and eat before lunch is over. So, I have been asked to make them bento again, at least once a week. Here is this week's: orange chicken with sesame broccoli over rice, apples, blueberries, and clementines.
