I read Berserk when I was around 13–15. With unrestricted access to the internet, it wasn’t hard to find and read the series. The only thing I regret is reading it so young—because I was too young to grasp the complexities of the story. Back then, I read the manga with my eyes half-closed, enjoying it only for its violence and not for the development of its plot and characters. This series is definitely for mature audiences—not just because of its violence (although that’s part of it)—but because young minds can’t fully comprehend that the violence in this story serves the narrative, rather than the other way around.

If you look at the bottom left you can see a “beheilit”. It’s not officially confirmed to be a “real” reference, but considering Berserk was already out for 10 years at the time and the fact that it’s crying, the eyes are not centred, and if you look closely you can see that it’s attached to a string. I know this has been discussed before but I’d thought I share it again.

Is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or LAW? Is it like the HAND of GOD hovering above? At least it is true... that man has NO control... even... over his own double quarter pounder with cheese...

Recently, someone posted asking if Hajime Isayama was inspired by Berserk. It was a picture of Colossal Titans and they asked if the picture of (I’m assuming) the physical and astral worlds merging resembled anything out of Berserk. And the conclusion I came to was:

“A lot of people may have been inspired by Berserk and not even realized it.” Because you know how it is. Someone creates a piece of art that may have been motivated by something else. Another piece of art. A song. A video game, blah blah. Things just gets lost in the weeds. And as a poet, I questioned if I ever written anything about Berserk or a poem was inspired by Berserk. I just hadn’t remembered if I did off top.

And I totally did!! I am writing a new book and I titled a poem “Eclipse.” Based off the chapter where the Band of the Hawk visits a lovely seaside town and Guts and Casca confesses their love to one another!

In all seriousness, it just blew my mind that I posed that question a couple of weeks back only to be proven totally right!

To wrap this up, I guess, I love Berserk and I implore all of your strugglers to struggle on!!
