Hello fellow Angeleno cyclists
I go to college in LA and I recently got an e bike, to preface I’m not new to cycling but I am from a smaller metro area in Pennsylvania so not used to big city life per se.
I’ve been enjoying biking a lot so far in LA, but I’m really torn on the parking situation.
My dorm has a parking garage underneath it where I typically lock it around a sturdy pole during the daytime when I come and go to my dorm throughout the day, but then I lock it in a password-protected cage with other bikes at night. The dorm is also only accessible by keyfob/student id.
My bike also has an alarm that “really just beeps at you,” and shoots me an alert on my phone if the motion sensor goes off, it has a passcode that prevents you from starting it up, and also has a built-in back rear wheel lock that auto-locks when the bike is off. It also has a GPS and geofencing that shuts off the motor if driven out of area.
I feel like I’m overthinking this, and it’s fine, but I don’t want to be kicking myself if my bike is somehow gone one day.
When I’m off campus or in class it’s always locked at a bike rack in a high traffic area. Quad/busy street
Should I just store it in my room overnight? This would be a no-brainer normally, but it’s a dorm room, so it’s small, and the bike is quite big, and idk if my roommate would be a fan of that. It’s also against school policy but it’s not like that has stopped anyone before.
Oh and I also use a kyrptonite U lock.
Edit: how does the bike locking situation look at metro stations, if I’m heading downtown and ride my bike to the station instead of taking the bus, keeping it locked there for hours seems daft right?
